Safety Not Guaranteed - Tales From the Internet

Күн бұрынSafety Not Guaranteed was one of the defining memes of YTMND. This meme, or YTMND fad, depicted a time traveling man with a mullet next to a newspaper ad asking for help going back to the past. Accompanied by Paul Engemann's song Push it to the Limit, this meme took over all of YTMND for a long time.
As time went on, however, an increasing amount of YTMND users tried to find out the origin of the mysterious ad. Was it in fact a real ad that had run in a newspaper? Who created it? Was there legitimately a person who believed they had traveled back in time?
A few YTMND users investigated the Safety Not Guaranteed meme, and found that there was actually a phone number attached to the PO Box. Many people called the number, but without finding out much about the ad or the mullet man.
Eventually, coinciding with the release of the Safety Not Guaranteed movie, the person who wrote the original time traveler ad revealed its secrets.

My mom and a few of her friends had one of those old west style photos taken last year at the fair so it's entirely possible that the "mullet man" saw the ytmnd post, went to the local fair/amusement park where they do these kinds of photos and posted his own ytmnd thing.

Strange side story about the movie. _Safety Not Guaranteed_ was in theaters at the same time as _The Dark Knight Rises,_ the movie playing during that mass shooting at the Aurora CO, movie theater. People saw _Safety Not Guaranteed_ on the marquee of their local movie theater and thought it was some kind of sick joke in reference to the shooting, so theaters around the country got angry calls and emails. Some theaters even reworded the title or pulled the movie completely.

This channel is so underrated. It’s like Behind The Meme, but good, and not awful, and not cancer, and actually entertaining, and without the awful shit, and actually well executed, and not full of awful normie stuff, and not bad, and not meme-killing, and good. It's a good effort, but the handlebar is uneven. The right side of his stache hangs lower and gets split compared to his left side. He needs to keep training it in order for it to even out properly.

Katie Bayliss actually, far as i can tell, it is a authentic framed civil war photo. The clothing, though a tad blurry, seems to be completely period accurate. Not sure what the gun is, its too faded, but the fading and spots make more authenticity. Overall, seems authentic.

I love that you provide a good synopsis at the beginning of these. I find these videos stressful but enjoyable and seeing the synopsis, so well written, is like a nice cup of tea before diving into what might be a horror film. It's like we're at the theatre, very nice

I did NOT expect to hear my uncle's name in this video, that was shocking. I've heard his music on the radio but somehow hearing his song was used in the mullet man meme makes the fact that he was famous seem much more real to me. He's just a guy so I never thought about that.

The Movie based on this with Mark Duplass and Aubrey Plaza is legit such a great indie flick. Deff reccomend it to everyone whose a fan of both actors.

two clicks and im subbed :) this is all bringing *me* back in time, to when i was sitting at my desk at work in my first post-college career job ;). really, the 00s were a strange and magical time on the internet, and ill be honest -- i kiiiinda miss it. not that it sucks now, but.. wow. ytmnd, b3ta (which I worked with photoshop extensively at work so it was easy to slack off in images), etc. sadly i have an absent minded professor brain so its really hard for me to reminisce by myself - I'm not remembering what I had for breakfast, so. Really great to listen to this stuff and have the old ashes stirred to see if there are any lit coals of memory left under there. ;)

I always go back in time listening to your videos background music. The kingdom of zeal music was some of my favorite chrono trigger music. Also constantly here final fantasy music as well. Love it.
