In this week’s episode, we are in Formentera and dealing with the shifty winds and Posidonia regulations.
We arrived in Espalmador, a popular anchorage in Formentera early May. We were surprised to not find the mooring buoys that are supposed to be used by sailors to protect the Posidonia, and had a few head scratching moments before deciding to drop our anchor in the sand.
We get invited over for lunch on our friends’ catamaran, a Fountaine Pajot Saba 50, for another gourmet lunch prepared by chef Patrice, before heading to the beach for some exploration of Espalmador.
The next day, we get inspected by the Posidonia ranger patrol who come to check our anchor. We take the opportunity to ask a few questions and get some clarity on the matter, but we aren’t wiser than yesterday!

Oh, and the cons with a cat is that there is practicly NO rolling. And you get to be more self-sustained. More space means more cans and more gadgets like watermakers, Li-batteries, solarpanels, coolers and so on. "Gone with the Wynns" has a LOT to say about that. And of course, Sailing le Vagabond. There is also an american family, Sailing Zatarah, that does a lot of cat-stuff. You really don't have to dock at all if you have a bigger boat.

I never look up on bigger boats and envy and say wow!!! Not only due to my poor financial situation, but also due to my love for small boats. If you keep on looking on bigger boats, you will always look up on bigger and bigger than what you have. My concept of sailing is simple lifestyle and not to move what I have on shore to the sea. My "land luxuries" stay where they belong. They don't belong to my lifestyle on sea.

Don't talk about catamarans around Polar Seal. You will hurt her feelings! Don't forget that with a cat comes a lot of additional costs to dock and maintain what is basically a fancy pontoon house boat. :-)

I’m so hungry! Get recipes! I’m now inspired to cook a little more on the boat. Love this episode. I know what you mean about giant catamarans. After being in the marina with super yachts and 60’ cats, the 44’ Fontaine Pajot that just docked looked so tiny that my boyfriend bet me it was under 38 feet. Ha ha, I won. Puts it all into perspective. I still love my Beneteau! Cheers.

Hi guys, have been really busy for a while and now I’m trying to catch up watching all your videos. Hey, Balearics, thats my playground!!! You think your boat is small there? Try going there with my 32ft.... if anyone is interested...2021 rules and regs...your anchor must be in the sand but your chain may be on the grass, that superior court of the Balearics told the regional government it was illegal to fine anyone because “possible” damage to the seagrass (this goes a lot deeper in terms of residual waters and the fact that they get away with “fyi notifications only”) the damage had to be demonstrated.

Very interesting about the seagrass. The potential fines..........not so much. :-) Loved the 50' catamarans and, yes, you belong on one. Perhaps a 42. Would be double the room inside and on deck and not sooooo big at the marinas. ;-) Love the outfit and colors on the last few moments.
