As cool as the idea of King Cold having more transformations would be, if he does, there's little reason for him to not realize the sheer danger of Trunks after Trunks so casually deleted Frieza in front of him. King Cold is definitely at his maximum power against Trunks, and it's not remotely enough. It's not like Trunks didn't give him the time to transform either. King Cold could've transformed the moment Frieza got wiped out. But seeing as he didn't in the face of an opponent clearly far superior, and instead went for trickery instead shows that King Cold really had nothing up his sleeve. I don't gripe over lost potential for a villain in Cold because simply put, he was just basically Frieza's dad who was retired. Probably been chilling at his vacation home drinking wines and stuff not bothered in the slightest.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i remember in trunks timeline, goku defeated both frieza and king cold. and as we all know... the Z worriers( specifically goku and vegeta ) always let the bad guys get to their full power before fighting them.

I always thought the second form was Cold's top level. Sure, he was almost as powerful as freeza, BUT he 'retired' and that large bulky form was kinda useless (hence why the final form is so much smaller and more lithe). I think Cold set up his grip on the galaxy and then gave it to freeza knowing his son was more powerful, and had more potential.

I like how that one fan series with a multiversal tournament where in one of them Ginyu took over Cold and made that body reach monsterous forms.

It's sad that King Cold was wasted, he's one of my favorite Dragon Ball Characters.

Freeza is a prodigy, he has a massive power even for members of his race. Even if King Cold DID unleash his true power (if that's what you mean by transforming, since Freeza's race actually transforms to SUPRESS their power) it wouldn't have been stronger than Mecha Freeza at that moment.

Yeah King Cold was MISHANDLED definitely. There's been plenty of situations where the Z fighters could have defeated there enemies without even giving them a fair chance. But King Cold went down without any hints of his potential to match the Super Saiyan form. They probably would've had to hit that hyperbolic time chamber sooner than later.🤔💭

It's worth noting that Frieza and Cooler are prodigies among their race and that's one of the reasons they would be able to transform more times. It's entirely possible that King Cold just isn't as powerful as them, either due to that, age, or just not having the same drive to improve. I'd like to see Cold transform. He'd be significantly larger than Frieza in every form, in fact some people point out that he may only be in his 1st form. He may even become a giant once he gets going.

Addressing around the 4:20 mark 1. Frieza couldn't sense power at this point, so in his arrogant mind he probably thought the last fight was closer than it actually was. 2. He knew about saiyans getting stronger after each fight, but he vastly underestimated it and didn't understand the dynamics of the Zenkai boosts which was implied several times.

I'm not quite sure if he did have a any other form. The reason is that, in original timeline there was no trunks, thus Goku would have to save the planet, knowing him he would like to squeeze out of his oponent maximum, so assuming that he fought Freeza and King cold (noone else would defeat them at that time) then King Cold coldn't be that much overpowered. The other thing is that offspring tends to be more powerful with more potential that its parents, maybe that was the case of Freeza?

Friezas 4th form is said to be his true natural form and 1 2 3 are just suppressed forms. Cold should have at least 1 more transformation to his true form

I doubt that king cold was strong at all actually. its said that 4th form freiza was his base form, same for king cold, he was in his version of a fourth form. Freiza race members dont transform to multiply their power like saiyans do, they use it to adapt physically to their environment or to suppress themselves. Though it would be cool if king cold was stronger.

It mentions he improves his abilities by transforming, but I'm guessing a 2nd form is the max transformation he can do. There is no indication he was "hiding" anything, and the translation doesn't suggest that either. That would be an interesting thought though! He'd probably be similar to Frost from Universe 6 in power if he could get to the 4th form.

Given that goku killed cold in the original timeline i doubt that he was that powerful. Im basing this off of goku most likely giving cold a chance to leave peacefully/allowing time to transform.

I was always under the assumption that was King Colds' current final form in manga/anime. Frieza is considered a mutant in his own alien race with more transformations and insane potential. That's why King Cold has his son as head of the empire due to being special in power among his people. I mean, if as said he could go final form like Frieza when his current form matched half of Final Form Frieza on Namek, he be beyond Cell Saga level. I don't think he could or had that, though, during Trunks slaughtering them both. Mind we are all speculating on King Cold given how short his time was. We only have him, Frieza, and Universe 6 Frost to go by for their race in canon. With Frost being supposedly the mirror to Frieza. So, for all we know, most of their race may have one form. With Cold line having more say two perhaps and his son Frieza having much more for Universe 7. I hate the OVA movie I'll be mentioning, but to bring it up given, I believe Toriyama was more involved with it. When Bardock went back in time and became SSJ... He faced Lord Chilled. Who was obviously an ancestor or at very least same race as Frieza and Cold. He only had one form giving my view that most of the race is probably similar outside Cold and more so Frieza. For Universe 7, at least, as obviously, we know even less about Universe 6 equivalent as we only seen Frost.

Ever since I read Dragon Ball Multiverse, I've always looked at King Cold differently.

Saw a fan manga on Namek where Captain Ginyu was betrayed by Frieza similar to what Vegeta did Nappa, but Ginyu body swapped with a nobody and managed to escape on a pod. Then went back to the capitol and body swapped with Cold....and pretty much realized Cold walked around hiding all his power and never trained. Well....lol Ginyu proceeded to actually train and got the 5th form Cooler got plus a 6th. Was a beast. Pretty cool to think about all the what if's.

My person favourite king cold theory is because it says he looks like friezas second form that could imply that he’s just a more aged first form and that he still has the second form to transform into because we all know frieza isn’t that old compared to his dad

Kay, but here's a thought; Maybe the form we see Cold in *IS* his final form. Both of his sons have final forms that were/are vastly different from each other. And they've all been stated to be mutations in one form or another. So it stands to reason that if Cold CAN transform, the form we see him in is likely the apex of his ability to do so. Hence why he didn't do so when Trunks killed Freeza.

In reality cold was probably around the same power level equivalent to Frieza's second and third form's at least in the manga so that means if cold could transform (which he definitely could have) he probably would have been pretty much equal to Frieza something Goku and trunk's can handle.

Even more interesting enough is that Frieza is incredibly paranoid about his height and can literally change to his second form at any time however, because of what happened to his father, he's entirelly paranoid about ever going back to any of those forms again.

The way I see it based on comments that iirc Frieza said about his transformations is that what we generally call second form is actually base form or first form. What we call first form, is more like form zero. I remember Frieza mentioning something about creating the original form we saw him in on purpose. This suggests form two is his natural state. Now, that could lead one to consider the possibility that Frieza also created form three, and final form from scratch. And this would suggest that King Cold may not have done the same, and may not have the ability to transform at all. Unless of course, final form is actually base form and the Frieza race created two and three to hide their true appearance and power as Frieza did by creating form one (or form zero). Correct me if I'm wrong though, but I do recall this being mentioned by Frieza. Xenoverse seems to assume that final form is base form, since all the Frieza race characters appear to be in final form, and Frost in DBS is also always in final form. In the Cooler movie, Cooler is in final form from the start, and then went to a form five. Something Frieza could not do, and never does. It could be either honestly, but I find it unlikely that if Cold could transform that he wouldn't do so to prepare for a fight that got Frieza destroyed in his own final form.

I think your headcannon sounds interesting. But I believe that King Cold at his last form would be just as strong if not a little stronger than android 16. Which is already insanely impressive. Considering that Android 16 was so strong at the first arch of the cell saga that he could easly breeze through out all of the z fighters plus android 17, and 18 together without making an effort.

Tho I am starting to like the idea of cold transforming, I always felt like he was in his final form it just looks like Frieza's second form. From looking at Cooler it seems they get taller as they age and Cold's skin does not have the binding pink skin like his tail as. Just seems like Cold is in his final form, I remember an old guide saying that from back when dbz came out but idk.

Due to Frieza being the ultimate big bad, I always assumed that King Cold was in his final form or perhaps had one more but ultimately lacked Friza's final form.

I am pretty certain that Frieza stated that his final form is actually his base form and the other forms were suppressions because his power was too much to control, wouldn't that mean that King Cold had the same base form and what we saw could have been a suppressed form? This is based off of the anime though, I am not sure if the Manga stated differently

I believe that Frieza states that he is the strongest between himself and King Cold upon facing Trunks, which King Cold doesn’t ever object to. It could be that Frieza and Cooler are just stronger than their father because they are natural born prodigies who both possess the capability of transforming further, while King Cold would have to train in order to do the same. Because, if King Cold was going to try and fight Trunks to win I’m almost certain that he would have tried to stall for more time so that he could power up and transform rather than trying to win by lying to Trunks and trying to kill him with his own sword.

My own head canon regarding Mecha Frieza: This rebuilt version of Frieza is a being capable of reaching levels of power even higher than his purely organic form. Pre-Mecha Frieza's max was 120,000,000 which could only be accessed by achieving his bulky 100% transformation. With the upgrades (that look like scrapyard parts) made to Frieza's body, I figured that he could access his 100% power without the need of going into his bulky form. Basically, Frieza didn't need to transform to use his full powerful unlike his purely organic body. The doctors/scientists said the enhancements would help Frieza reestablish himself as the most powerful being in the universe. So, we could estimate Mecha Frieza being at least 150,000,000+ in power. As for King Cold, there's so much we don't know about Frieza's race. Perhaps he saw the potential in his son and figured he'd retire due to the knack Frieza had for power. As the years pass, maybe this race can't access the same levels of power that they could in their younger years. Maybe Frieza simply surpassed his father's power at a young age the same way Vegeta did to his father. Simply put, even transformed beyond his current state; King Cold wouldn't be that much more powerful due to old age, stamina, etc. Again, this is just theories/speculation not facts...

So my understanding was that final form Frieza is closer to being his 'actual' form. 1st, 2nd and 3rd forms are actually suppressing forms used to control his power, essentially reverse transformations. He struggles to contain his own power which we see when he is initially able to match SS goku only to rapidly fall apart. My head cannon based on this is that King Cold could hypothetically transform beyond his initial form we see in the series, but doing so would cause his own power to overwhelm him (similar to how messing up the Kaioken is suppose to kill the user). Essentially, Frieza's ability to utilise his full potential is either a case of him surpassing his father's level in chi control, or only possible due to him having less power to control at 100%

I always had it in the back of my mind as well that instead of Resurrection F, it should've been Revival of Cold. That would've made things more interesting, but considering if he inherited the status of "King, "... Who's to say that in the afterlife he's planning something like taking over Hell or the demon realm (which should be vacant in U7 being that Dabura is gone & his soul was purified in the anime if we take that into consideration). Cold strikes me as the guy who does deals with different entities - i mean just look at him warning Frieza of Majin Buu & Beerus; even in death trying to negotiate with Future Trunks. He had to have negotiated with Beerus on something that the story is not going in depth about. Frieza is like the rich kid who plays anywhere he wants & takes anything from other kids, but Cold is the parent who happens to own banks that run through most houses in that entire city; so nobody can say nothing.

Compelling vid, but nothing in the canon supports Cold transforming. That DVD Box claim contradicts the manga. Frieza's forms are exclusive to him specifically, he said he created those to restrain the power of his original body. So they're not even powerups as the DVD Box implies... Lastly we know for a fact, as it's stated, that in the manga Cold is weaker than Frieza while in the anime they say he's stronger -- but, being weaker, he likely doesn't need 'restrains' like Frieza. Meaning what we saw was already his original body. This explains why he didn't even try nor mention transformations against Trunks, and only tries to steal his sword. Because he can't. The DVD Box is just wrong, as the DBZ anime is at times. "Kid Buu is the strongest Buu" anyone?

After the Cell Saga I looked at King Cold differently. At first, I figured that was as far as he could go and both his sons were more powerful, which is why he was letting them take over. After the Cell Saga, specifically where Goku and Gohan spend time in SSJ to get use to the form... it made me wonder if that is why he stays in that form. He's spent time staying in that form to get use to the form and its power. I assume each of their transformations are similar to SSJ, big increase in power, but a lot of strain/drain on them.

I think King Cold could be that level, certainly, but that Frieza might also not be fully grown by the time he dies, and because he was the inheritance of King Cold's empire even if Cold was in the shadows as stronger, it might be safe to say that Frieza even further maturing could have naturally exceeded Cold's maximum if he was given the chance. I think Frieza had more potential, but Cold was the stronger one due to sheer age.

Saying that mecha Freeza is 60 million - very wrong. In canon Freeza stated that new body is perfect for his strength, so it is equal to 100 percent Freeza - 150 millions.

Great what if although I’m just super grateful he’s playable in bt3 it’s the only game that lets you play as him and it feels badass and awesome would recommend to anyone who loves dbz games for King cold it’s always that either his second form is his final form or he hasn’t transformed yet which is confusing since he should’ve transformed against trunks but what can you do

I know Dragon Ball Multiverse interprets King Cold's final form to be at Semi-Perfect Cell's level. I suppose that's not impossible, I would say he'd be at least android level.

I think people forget that when Goku went SSJ on Namek he had already been worn out after fighting for a long time, while ontop of using Kaio Ken during the fight, which is why I think Goku would be stronger than Trunks at this point of the story.

Frieza’s definitely stronger than his dad, and at the time of his introduction, Cooler was stronger than Frieza. The manga itself never really takes a stance on the Frieza vs Cold debate. When the heroes feel their ki, they’re just described as being stronger than anyone else on Earth at the time, though Frieza does refer to himself as the strongest in the Universe a couple times and King Cold never contradicts him, so make of that what you will. The anime does add a bit of dialogue about the second, non-Frieza ki being even bigger than Frieza’s, but that’s undercut when Gohan says that what they’re sensing right now is just the tip of the iceberg, and that Frieza can get way stronger. It’s when we start diving into databooks and author interviews that we start getting a clearer picture. King Cold’s character biography in Daizenshuu 7 says “Though he’s the head of the strongest family in the universe, he is somewhat inferior to Frieza.” It was also stated in an interview leading up to Resurrection ‘F’ that “[Frieza’s] whole family is strong, but he alone is especially strong.” Mind you, there’s been a lot of speculation about whether or not Cold could transform, and while I tend to assume that he could, I would still say that at full power, he probably wouldn’t quite match up to Frieza’s maximum. Of course, this chain of thought primarily relates to Frieza as he appeared in the manga and the Dragon Ball Z TV series. If we’re taking Resurrection ‘F’ and Dragon Ball Super into account, there is no debate. He’s so much stronger than his dad that it isn’t funny. Likewise, Cooler was introduced to essentially be a more powerful version of Frieza. He had an extra strong advanced form that Frieza couldn’t pull off, and when he reappeared as an army of robots, he was more than a match Super Saiyan Goku and Vegeta combined. I dont think King Cold had other forms. (Correction he might have a base form and trained for the second form to be more imposing) He was more into the king role than the fighter role. An anime recently came out that hits pretty accurately on picking between ruling and studying the blade. Simply put, he didn't have time to train so he was weak.

i think they kind of implied that goku could take both of them on, its not directly stated that cold transforms to final in the timeline without trunks but its almost a given and he seemed pretty calm about the situation

King Cold was probably in his only form. Remember Freeza was a prodigy and also created forms to suppress his powers. It could of been possibly but I'd say unlikely, seeing he knew about the super Saiyans.

Trunks knew absolutely how Saiyan battle lust could impair fighting choices.... Seeing how his future was trashed he was not taking any chances so yeah makes sense he'd ellimate threats quickly.

Daizenshuu 7 states in King Cold's bio that he is "slightly behind" Frieza in terms of battle power

I once read somewhere that King Cold does have a Final Form and at Max Power, he can go toe to toe with Kid Buu.

If King Cold transformed as a cliffhanger it would be like Trunks SSJ 2 against Perfect Cell.

Anyone saying King Cold couldn't transform, King Cold was arrogant, also the original plan was for King Cold to be the big bad, not Cell, but the studio saw it to similar to Freiza, and so it was scrapped and we got androids instead. IE, he can transform, and if he had, he'd have easily wiped the floor with everyone, his Final Form would be somewhere around SSj3 level in Buu Saga, but again the idea was scrapped in favor of the androids.

a few points/thoughts: goku's SS against frieza was a weakened SS, since he was already drained from fighting so long. he was basically running on pure adrenaline at that point, so a post yardrat, well rested and trained slightly, goku would be easily more powerful (plus any zenkais along the way). another thought is frieza and most likely king cold were not fighters, just pure power houses. that's why frieza couldn't maintain 100% very well. it's a possibility that, due to his "retirement" and demeanor among other things that king cold couldn't reliably transform anymore. even if he could transform, it would most likely take too much of a toll on his body and hinder more than help.

King Cold should have been the main villain in the Resurrection F movie. It would have been a lot cooler seeing King Cold's final form match Super Saiyan Blue. It would be really show the type of threat Trunks prevented in the Android Saga. After all, King Cold wasn't afraid of Trunks even after he killed Freeza.

I remember reading somewhere that King Cold "CAN" transform, but not like how Frieza does it. The difference is that when Frieza does it, it's not a transformation because it just him unlocking a lock he put on to his power. While for King Cold, his transformations would actually be transforming like Cooler and Goku (not his base form). Frieza's base form is his 100% form while King Cold's base form is the one we get to see (which i guess you can say is 2nd form frieza) and base form cooler is also the same as 100% frieza. That is why Frieza can't be knocked out of his 100% form and can stay in that form forever but not his Golden form because golden form is actually a transformation for him now. I also read somewhere that If King Cold did have a transformation, it would've just been 1 transformation above his base form like cooler, not something like Frieza's multi transformation. And if King Cold can transform, it would've looked and acted different from Frieza's transformations also. So say in the timeline that Trunks didn't come and Goku had to fight, maybe King Cold did transform, but it didn't give him a Super big lead for him to win, kind of like how (bad example) Cooler's transformation didnt make him win against Goku. The fight would've been a bit longer but Goku probably woud've won with an Instant Kamehameha or something.

What stunted king cold was the fact that when he was transforming form form 2 into form 3 and something he he got stunted which is why he he let frezzer(frieza) take control of his forces cause he could make to stage 3

King was not in his 2nd form! He is just bigger because he is friezers dad and older. If you look at friezers 1st form, he wore space armor. It was in his 2nd form that his upper torso had it's own armor, and his arms and legs had horizontal stripes. Yes king cold as we know him is big and his horns point upwards, but that's likely just what they look like in maturity. Everything else is similar to friezers 1st form. But all that being said, it would prove your point even more. It's a bit of a stretch to say he solos the series. But if king cold in 1st form is as strong as mecha friezer at 40% power, it's safe to say final form king cold could be as high as 4 billion if their multipliers are the same when they transform. I think that puts him in league with ascended or ssj grade 2 vegeta when he fought perfect cell. Add in the fact that their race is one with the most natural strength and potential, a king cold that actually trained for even a year, certainly if he trained for the 3 years before the androids showed up would have been able to reach gold, potentially even black if he had the same access friezer did to their version of the HBTC. And it would be a stronger version than friezers black form. So easy to say a black form cold would be stronger than beast gohan.

New anime idea: King Cold comes back and is reforming the galactic crime epire while Frieza and the gang are trying to stop him. Add some plot twists, some trickery etc... Much better than just another enemy fighter who is somehow stronger than everyone else before being the main focus.

My head canon is that Cold handed over the Cold Force to Frieza, because Frieza was the culmination of the mutation that made his clan the strongest. Frieza would have eventually arisen and taken King Cold's empire, and Cold knew this, thus 'retiring' before any loyalty or affection Frieza might have had wore off.

I actually think a war against the Cold Family would have made a nice arc for DBZ. The android and Cell stuff could have come later or ran congruent to it for a type of chaos thing. A Cold who could transform is broken AF and plus Cooler could have been cannon

I'm *Pretty* sure that Frieza meant in the state he was in he could defeat Goku from the Namek Saga, and is incapable of pushing himself further from his mechanical bits which would most likely fall off / fall apart from the growth of transforming to 100%

For me, King Cold would be around 100M as much. Frieza said that only his father was able to push him to the floor. Also Frieza was under control of his power, so he would go 50 to 70% normally, and that would seem right with the manga as they recognize Frieza and a bigger energy. He probably would be not able to transform, as Frieza was an anomaly. He only ruled over Frieza due to being his father.

I know the DBZ RPG put each subsequent transformation of Freeza's race at an increased multipler. I know their numbers were a bit dated... Going back to Freeza fighting Vegata at ~4 million (33% of his max). E.G. 2x to form 2. 3x from 2 to 3. 4x from 3 to 4. Meaning Freeza is 12x from form 2 to 4. If King Cold had the potential to go to Cooler's stage 5. He would be sitting at a 60x from form 2... That's a rather steep rise.

@Saiyan Scholar I agree that King cold was a missed opportunity. whole Frost Demon Empire is a missed opportunity. Whole Android Saga could be more interesting, if Z fighters were off world fighting The Empire, by simply dr Gero seizing the opportunity to develop his weapons and make a coup on Earth. Now imagine a cataclysmic battle between 5th form King Cold and Perfect Cell, while Colds chief sorcerer Babidy goes rogue and releases Buu. Cell and Cold join sides as they discover the monster that Buu is, now Z fighters arrive after training with Kaioshins and the unlikely alliance begins as Buu rampages consuming every form of life, eventually matching up to Cell, Cold, Goku, Vegeta, FTrunks and Gohan. Buu eventually absorbs Cell and Cold, now it's up to Vegitto(permanent pottara) and Ftruhan (dance) fusions to fight Ultra Buu. Buus rampage breakes fabric of reality letting Makaioshins, Majins and Shadow Dragons in. Finally Beerus arrives and hakais Ultra Buu, but says that Shadow Dragons made a wish, where Beerus or Whis cannot find see them, or something, so Vegitto and Z Fighters need to find hunt them down. Mecha Freeza and Cooler are defeated but not killed as they save each others backs and run for now. would be a good story... But if anyone wants to explore this idea, id want Saiyan Scholar to explore this idea alone.

I think King Cold as we saw him was already in his final form. Otherwise, Frieza at 100% power would not even be a smidget of his father. Why would Cold's offspring be that much weaker than him? Also, just because he looks like Frieza in his 2nd form doesn't mean it was his 2nd form. Cooler's forms also look much different than Frieza's, so King Cold's outward appearance might also have different logic than Frieza's.

I think this is just a case of forgotten character, the fact that he liked to stay in the shadows and he has a clan of the strongest in the universe and even beerus didn't know about him all could have made for some interesting scenarios

@Saiyan Scholar --- If Frieza believed he could beat Goku in a fight, wouldn't 160,000,000 to 300,000,000 make more sense? Also, wouldn't Frieza be aware that Saiyans get stronger after battle and should know Goku will be even more powerful than on Namek?

Ngl, i interpreted that statement about Cold getting stronger and self-improving to mean that he was already in his strongest form and that the form was crafted as a power boost instead of power suppressor like Freeza. This was cool, tho

King Cold ruled the universe it's safe to assume that he has a secret or two that's he kept from everyone even Frieza. It would make sense for Cold to be insanely powerful if he is ruling a reality where much more powerful beings than himself in his secoond form reside. King Cold's decision to hand over the empire to his son and to hide his other forms might be for the same reason, Cold knows how evil his son is so he hands over the empire because he believes it is only a matter of time before Freiza will try to kill him for the throne. Cold hopes that by doing this his son won't try to kill him not because Frieza would win but because Cold does not want to have to kill his son, his legacy and intended heir. However if Frieza were to get out of line or if a being more powerful than Frieza threatened the empire then Cold would reveal a secret he kept form everyone inecluding his son, he can transform further and is much more powerful than anyone knows. Frieza mentions on Namek that his father was the only one to hurt him in his final form, we can assume this was training but perhaps Frieza played his hand and went a little too rough enough to make his dad suspect foul play and Cold set his son right by showing him he still was more powerful. Officially Frieza is the emperor but Cold is still the power behind the throne enjoying a very comfortable life in the shadows. Frieza is not one to share power even if he is not doing it publicly so it is safe to assume that if Cold is still alive and is the back seat ruler it is because he is strong enough to hold that position in the face of his son's power. When Frieza is ressurected it is suggested that he also bring back his dad but Frieza rejects this idea because he doesn't want Cold telling him what to do. This gives us some insight into Frieza's priorities. He puts power over family and Cold was right not to blindly trust his son who wanted Cold's authority over him to cease. Frieza may rule but it is at Cold's discretion if need be Cold can discipline Frieza and remind everyone of the pecking order, so when Frieza is resurrected he makes no attempt to bring Cold back so he can have all the power.
