Great job Coach Charles. If you can take the jab away from your opponent you're right pretty much you won. The jab starts everything.. that young man he could really fight he's good. ,👍👍👍

Great explanations and beautiful angles, Coach! A couple questions, if you don't mind: 1.) Does this method work with the thumb-up hook, or is it ideal to have the extra range of the thumb-down hook? 2.) Regarding the body shot from about 5:47 onward, I can't quite see clearly - is it a left straight, or more like the upward-flicking Cuban jab? Please keep the great instructionals coming - this is PhD-level boxing material!

@Charlessalbox Жыл бұрын
No probs 1. The the thumb down hook is necessary, just as you mentioned, for range. You will need to slip past the Jab and leave enough extension to catch your opponent with the Hook as he moves into it. 2. This punch is is a left straight... you leave the knuckles of the lead hand to touch the body of the torso of your opponent for extra distraction and to let your opponent's arms drop so you can expose the chin.

I started boxing in 1985 , I went pro and quit after 3 fights because I got accepted to university on a full scholarship to study Philology but I never stopped training I have studied many martial arts but I started with the sweet science, becoming a skilled southpaw puncher boxer I love these videos, Cuban Boxing is such a great slick style I have learned Boxing , Dutch Kickboxing, Jeet Kune Do, Silat and CQB with Firearms With all the stabbings happening more frequently in the streets, I started teaching Silat to my nephews along with boxing . It's getting dangerous out there

@@Charlessalbox exactly , My last Boxing trainer is like a uncle to me and is considered family , I trained professional boxing with him for 7 years , I don't see a lot of videos where the punching is started with the opposite hand , for example, when standing in south paw I have knocked out many people very quickly by taking a step with my lead leg , pulling my right hand towards my body and throwing a Cross right down the middle but the entire move was based around making them think I'm throwing a right hand , he taught me that , he also taught me how to puppet fighters into throwing a jab so I could do a outside slip with a cross and that's my Knockout Punch Little tricks too , like when I do a outside slip , I slightly duck first then slip just in case they throw a hook . He also taught me to throw punches over the jab like knocking on door I love him. Boxing isnt a sport to me , it's a way of life and I consider all fighters my brothers, even those that hate me There is a book called The Hagakure , it's the Spiritual Manual for the warrior , he gave me that book and I still recommend it to everyone I teach I have nothing but admiration and love for you and your channel , I wish you nothing but success and I bet you have saved some of these youths from the streets Mad respect Please keep training the next generation of warriors to be kind loving and humble because if they are living that way, they are champions in my mind 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Charles, could you please share your thoughts about horizontal vs vertical fist in boxing? You know, pros 'n cons, when to use and when not e.t.c.
@Charlessalbox
@Charlessalbox Жыл бұрын
Both are good. However in Amateur the thumb up should seldom be used for long range attacks, not because it won't hurt but simply because are less likely to score them. In amateurs you should condition yourself (shoulders) to throw thumb down long range. In the Pros you can decide on what is more likely to hurt vs point scoring vs range.

I am just wondering about parrying, which hand is it the lead or rear? Is there any specific hint?

Sorry I made a mistake in the message I wrote. I meant do I parry using the lead hand or rear hand, whether parrying the right cross or jab , on different situations. It’s maybe a basic knowledge, but I don’t know the reasons behind it or what’s better parrying the jab/cross with rear or lead hand. Thanks for the knowledge coach Charles.

If you want to occupy the blindside of your opponent then parry their right hand with your left hand, and their left hand with your right hand. This is safest! I'll probably make a video on this
