Seven years ago, Shane Harrison and Dillin Pakai were found guilty of murdering 25-year-old Sio Matalasi during a stoush between rival Mongrel Mob members in Wellington. Sio, who had a young son and a new baby on the way, was not a gang member. However, he was friends with several members of the Petone Mongrel Mob chapter who lived in a nearby flat.
He stepped in to try to help his mates and was shot at close range by 18-year-old Pakai. It was 43-year-old Harrison who had ordered Pakai to start shooting during the confrontation.
Matalasi has wanted to meet Harrison since the day he forgave him in court. After seven years, the meeting finally went ahead at Hawke’s Bay Regional Prison early last month.

I myself committed aggravated armed robbery, even though I was sentenced years ago and have been out living my life differently since then there's not a day that goes by that I don't think about the victims in the situation I was in and it tears me apart and once I had children of my own I hurt me even more to realize what I had done and how it's not about me when we all have a right to live in this world peacefully with each other and coexist and there was nothing important in this life that was worth taking somebody else's right to have a freedom or to live their life to the fullest with their loved ones in my opinion, It was very touching to hear this, grieving father forgive the other two boys and years later he's going into put this behind him by confronting the other man and it makes him a wonderful wonderful father grandfather and man, Amen..

I would have seek revenge and destroyed the killer's family and then ended him in the most painful way... I don't care if it's not the "right" thing to do ! if you do me harm, i'll do you harm + bonus !! Where's the justice for the person killed here ? his life ended without him having any choices about it. Can someone ask him if he's willing to forgive ? it's not possible, therefore there's no forgiveness to be given !

All glory to God. Amazing testimony and an encouragement for all us Christians that this is true forgiveness. God showed us first and foremost what true forgiveness was through the death of His ONLY Son who died on the cross for our sons. God bless you Iafeta and your family. God bless Shane and may he through this experience come to know the Lord. Praise God. What a beautiful touching story. Brought tears to my eyes and made me reflect on my life as a Christian.

I hope they will be convicted of their actions and repent and live for the Lord. I hope Iafeta is in a church that preaches the truth because many people in churches are given half truths.
