Hey FOMO are you gonna update to firmware 1113? I heard they changed the tone mapping clipping points on 1113. On 1100 ps5 clipped at 17 clicks and now it clips at 20 on 1113. Please test before and after fw update with game HDR on/tone mapping static (hgig) and also test FMM mode with both static and active and see if there are any newfound anomalies.

First of all, FOMO, thanks SO much for all your effort and for all the work you put into your videos. I know this post os about the S95C but, I can’t find it anywhere. I may have missed it but, can you elaborate about the differences between the S90C from Best Buy and the S90CD from Costco???? I’m particularly interested on the 77” model. Besides the warranty, I believe there are other differences between those. Some say it is related to the screen, some say it is related to the audio. I’m not sure but, I read that the one from Costco comes with a more powerful audio system. Can you clear this up for is looking to get one? Thanks a lot!

I didn’t have a issue with accuracy for s95b as long as it was in filmmaker mode , it was the terrible colour production in the game mode and no way to properly fix the accuracy in game mode , have they fixed that or are you forced to look at way over saturated colours and brightness just because you like gaming ?

I often find that I prefer HDR over Dolby Vision, DV is often washed out or to dim and look a bit boring. I noticed that on games too. I know what it's "supposed" to be like that but a good example of this is Microsoft Flight Simulator. In Dolby Vision it make the cloud detail stronger and messes up the look of the aircraft a lot & it just looks a bit weird to me. Where as the more even brightness looks better to me as it gives more of an impression that the plane and the sky are the same illuminator. Or to put it another way Dolby Vision makes things look like poorly composited Visual effects. So I prefer HDR10 etc. and the flowers shown in this video are a good example it completely dims the red to try to make the yellow stronger and instead of your eye flowing to the yellow which is the intent, it makes you wonder what happened to the picture all of a sudden or if your TV is broken. So yeah I'm not really a fan of Dolby Vison's current implementation. I'm not saying everything should look like Samsung Vivid mode either I just find my personal taste is closer to HDR10

As many times as I've seen the red/yellow tulip vid - and I know the intent of the test is to measure the 'pop' of yellow against the sea of red - I'm always distracted by this. The reds in the two images are so drastically different, it's all I can focus on, and the reviewers never factor that in. It's jarring.

I prefer the Brighter field of tulips I don't think the intention is lost in fact I think the "slight" loose of detail creates almost a depth of field effect on it and draws my eye more so yeah I like the left image way way more the right one is as yuck looking as the ferris wheel is on the Sony. As for the mountain the HDR destroys the detail here you can see it in the graph it's not even trying to render it correctly it's just blasting light at it and knackers it so in this case despite it being very dim the detail preservation is noticeably superior on the Sony. I wonder what a wildlife snow scene would look like on each TV ?

Sony is still thousand $ more expensive than Samsung, and you're just throwing away money for a *very marginal* improvement. By the time Sony A95L comes out (probably in June), Samsung will cut down the prices. And by the end of this year/beginning next year, Samsung might give 50% off. Buying Sony is mostly just to brag about a TV at this point, for those who have just way too much money than sense.

It's very fair because the 65" A95k is currently Sony's best TV as the release of the A95L is in July - so until then, this is Samsung's victory to enjoy. 90% of consumers shopping for a TV between now and July will only have the A95K as their only QD-OLED from Sony and they need to know why they should wait - right?

And also just for the tv nerd interest and fun of it all, to see the difference between s95c and a95k then s95c and a95L and g3 , and maybe even to older tvs , the more comparisons the more data and interesting exploration if your a tv nerd. Also how can you come to the conclusion that Dolby vision is less bright when the S95C is using a new QDoled panel that is brighter. The A95L is nearly twice as bright as A95K so when you measure Dolby vision on the A95K that peak brightness will be pushed higher.

@@MrlspPrt lol, trust me, you don’t want my card number 😂 I am a gamer, mostly these days playing Fortnite. Actually, back in 2021 I returned a Sony A80J OLED because it was just way too dim when playing games (the HUD mini map would trigger the ABL and make it unplayable in my bright room). I returned it for the Neo QLED which was BRIGHT but damn, the blooming drove me crazy. The S95C has been awesome with Fortnite…maybe it’s my imagination, but I think the static images on the screen are the only things that dim. At least that’s what it looks like to me. I’ve only had the TV about a week, so I haven’t tried out other games. But this weekend I’ll be trying Kena: Bridge of Sprits on the PS5 and see what it looks like. 👍🏻

I'm just an average viewer, but to me, Dolby Vision is too dim in most scenes. I watched "The Ranch" on Netflix in Dolby Vision, and i felt my eyes straining to see everything throughout the entire show. I always found everything to be too dark, and was never impressed with any specular highlights. I don't care if it's more "accurate", i prefer the other HDR formats, which are more vibrant in color, and punchier in brightness.

Great review, but Dolby Vision isn't just about brightness. It's about preserving detail in scenes that call for brightness that's too much for the TV to handle. In your example with the sun, Dolby Vision is working as intended. It's lowering the brightness so you can see more detail in the sun.
@tears2040
@tears2040 Жыл бұрын
When’s the last time you looked at the sun and saw detail…….. Dolby Vision in this regard is lowering brightness which is not accurate. In REAL LIFE, things blow out in highlights. A shining sun off of a metal object like a car will look completely blown out to your eyes……….
@chrisbegley2396
@chrisbegley2396 Жыл бұрын
@@tears2040 Dolby Vision will always prioritize detail over brightness. That's literally what it was designed to do. A lot of people think Dolby Vision is just about brightness and that's false. And it is accurate in this regard. If you were able to watch that scene on a 10,000nit Dolby Vision display, it would be bright *and* detailed. It's just that when your TV can't get as bright as the source, it prioritizes the detail, because that's what Dolby Vision was designed to do.

"More detail in the sun" is a ridiculous phrase. It's the sun, you're not supposed to see it. Around the sun is a better choice of words. Also, tone mapping is "about preserving detail in scenes that call for brightness that's too much for the TV to handle". This Sony DV tone mapping algorithm needs brighter TVS. The mountain scene is the only one where DV looks better (Imo). It doesn't work well to dim things to maintain the ratio of brightness when the absolute brightness range is so small.
@stopthefomo
@stopthefomo Жыл бұрын
I completely agree - but it's also context as the background is already so dark, lowering it further doesn't increase the effect so this approach works better in some scenes (tulips) than others (ferris wheel)

I am bias, don't understand why the heck you didn't use the same size TV...you did everything the same that you could except Dolby vision as Samsung doesn't support that, so why not make everything the same including the size of the TVs. Why WHy WHY!!!!! Breaking down a static image to show the difference is all well & fine, except of course that people aren't usually able to do this level of side by side comparisons Thank you very much for doing the comparisons for us, & overall I would agree with your assessment that Samsung is a bit better overall, though that snow mountain scene in Dolby vision was much much better.

I often find that HDR10 the bog standard is the best overall. Because it's simply just pushes out the full range. It's still High DYNAMIC range. Just not as much changes as Dolby vision. So even if not always accurate, basically you get more brightness out of it. And Samsung's Active Tone mapping is great. I like how it take it and make more out of it. Dolby vision can get really dim. Even if that is creators intent. Well perhaps I don't find that look appealing. I am the one watching and it's my TV, I am going to do what is pleasing to me. I don't give AF what the director want. Even more so since many filmmakers have gone bonkers with bad setting. Looking at you Ozark and many other shows. Completely desaturated and not even realistic lighting at all. So how it the 'creators intent" the right way when they actually made it wrong. I want more HDR pop, nice colors (not over saturated or neon) just full and bright. I want more shadow detail, which happens under Active tone mapping because it allows you to see more in the scene. I don't like crushing. "Intent" or not. I do like that you get a choice with Samsung now. Some movies might just be best with static mapping and other active mapping.
