You mentioned the part where the TVs are indistinguishable when in bright room viewing. It would be appreciated if you could make a dedicated video about the best settings for highest brightness level + retaining most color accuracy for the big LG/Samsung/Sony OLED’s as I don’t currently have that set up, I use both cinema/filmmaker/cinema home/DV/DV Home all set to their most color accurate profiles but wouldn’t mind that punch when sun directly hits the TV

StopTheFOMO, thanks for your detailed and passionate videos. I have been watching this LG G3 vs Samsung SC90/95 battle play out over KZfaq over last few weeks. For non gamers, seems like the big question still is "will I miss out on the best viewing exp for Dolby Vision content with Samsungs" especially given the amount of Netflix, Apple TV etc content available. Your conclusion of HDR is brighter than Dolby Vision might not answer it actually. It seems like DV provides more detail while trying to maintain as much brightness as possible, whereas HDR starts losing some of the detail. So just apples to apples DV picture will be better. But that doesnt mean LG G3 is better TV. Seems like LG G3's big issue is lack of uniformity or those banding issues. QD-OLEDs dont exhibit that vertical banding and have much smoother color gradation. So it is really a choice between - Do you want Dolby Vision and Banding (G3) OR you want panel uniformity, better color volume but miss out on DV. I feel I will notice banding lot more than I will notice lack of the minor differences between DV and HDR. Hence for me the better compromise here is to avoid G3 and go for S90C. You can of course add the Sony A95L here which may be gives best of the both worlds but will cost significantly higher.

Tbh I think the tv tech has reached a point where these minuscule differences in measurements aren’t enough to claim one tv is objectively better than the other. Most these are not noticeable unless side by side comparisons are done. It’s just come down to what’s better for people’s use case/preferences
@floz9718
@floz9718 7 ай бұрын
I agree, price availability and features are more important these days. In terms of differences, it's more of a question how many and which specific issues a TV has, no TV is perfect so you have to decide with which issues you can live with.

Thank you for your honesty man. I've been suspicious at how similar these TVs would end up with content most people will be viewing on them. Given the environment most people would be viewing these screens in too. I think right now theres a lot of buzz around these TVs, but context is missing or the reviewers dont actually understand what they are talking about. For me, accuracy isnt important. I like my colours to really pop and smooth gradients without saturation looking sloppy. I feel like for the price, anyone is better off waiting for tv tech to really change in a meaningful way. I won't personally tell someone that they shouldnt spend their own money, but given how little of the audience is actually colour grading their content and wouldnt notice the difference anyway, its a waste of money. Have to wait for services to catch up with tv tech too. This feels like 3D tvs with no actual 3d content

The G3 has pink/red tint in their reflection handling and in some content. The Pink hue on the S95C reflection handling is much reduced compared to last year. I would 100% choose QD-OLED over WOLED, but like that whole Rtings longevity test it kind of scares you. LG does much better in that regard.

With how similarly they perform it‘s the gaming that makes the difference. G3: 120Hz, working HGiG, game mode can be calibrated S95C: 144Hz, broken HGiG, can not be fixed through HGiG, color-fringing can get noticeable on high-contrast edges in real content when you like to sit a little closer As a PC gamer I‘d love to have 144Hz as my VRR ceiling, but the disadvantages still outweigh the positives. I‘d go with the G3 no doubt. My G1 is still doing fine though, so I might wait another year and see if QD-OLED gets MLA next year or if LG can finally fix 120Hz gradation which still has visible banding in some scenes with no option to engage the smooth gradation option.

Finally, the comparison I have been waiting for, all this time. LG usually seems to be all-round good choice, but I am still hoping the QD-OLED tech would have something more to prove. Btw, "blistering defeat"? I thought S95B was extensively panned for all sorts of shortcomings: bad build quality, colour inaccuracy, manipulating performance for review TV vs consumer TVs, and the laggy OS (not to mention the lack of DV even with S95C).
@stopthefomo
@stopthefomo Жыл бұрын
the ONLY reason LG introduced MLA was because of QD-OLED. Everything you say about the flaws have to do with quality of life execution by S95B but QD-OLED image quality performance soundly defeated W-OLED. Its colour accuracy issues were addressed after the second firmware update and was never an issue with the Sony A95K.

Hey Fomo. Starting to think about upgrading my incredible 2018 Samsung 75" flagship Q9FN. This has been the only TV that has WOWED me in the last 5 years. Still looks better than 90% of all TVs today. I've seen the S95C and wasn't wowed. Haven't seen the G3 that you said is a pinch better. I'm REALLY pumped about the new Sony A95L and X95L which should blow the S95C and G3 off the planet if they are even 25% brighter than last years incredible models. The upscaling of low bit rate content is why I went with the C3 vs. the A90K. It's just so much better. My CX had horrible posterization, but the C2 and C3 are excellent in displaying low bit rate content.

What about burn-in risk of QD-OLED? seems like the nature of the technology, more specifically the lack of the white subpixel of WOLED, causes QD-OLED's to burn in more when showing white, because of the need to use all 3 RGB subpixels, where as the WOLED doesn't.

@@anuzahyder7185 Based off last year's burn in tests, it can be assumed we'll see burn in issues with this year's qd oled panels. Rtings reported back noticable burn in on the s95b and a95k, and none on the G2. I think Daniel has it right, and it's correct for sure that all 3 subpixels need to be pushed to generate white. None of these technologies are even close to perfect.

Excellent review, you really broke it down to the point that most people can make an educated decision in choosing the right TV. If these two TVs were the only choice I'd pick the G3. Also LG has better support and communication with their customers. which goes a long way for me. However, we're still waiting on the Sony A95L. Keep in mind when I wrote "cost is not an issue" I was referring to the cost differential between the more expensive Sony vs the other TV's. Also, there are no stores even remotely near me that carry Microleds, I would have travel a far distance or order it sight unseen. Just not worth the effort at this point in time.

don't listen to FOMO, he is VERY random with his TV suggestions, like he is hyping up shitty TV's like QNED and all, he can sell you a very mediocre TV with no regrets. The smart play is to buy whatever wins the two important Shootouts, one on Value Electronics and the other is Vincent's own Shootout on HDTVTests in September. The only realistic contenders this year are the Sony A95L and Panasonic MZ2004, those two will be the best TV's in 2023.

Hey everyone. I also have a question: It would be good to buy a Samsung HW-Q990B soundbar and install it with an LG65 G3 TV knowing the feature Q-Symphony not working for the LG 65 G3 TV or for any TV other than Samsung TVs.But I would like to know if there are other not working issues with the Samsung HW-Q990B soundbar and the LG 65 G3 TV and if there are any issues what would those issues are? If this Q-Symphony feature is the only issue between the Samsung HW-Q990B soundbar and the LG 65 G3 TV, it is still worth buying the Samsung HW-Q990B soundbar even if you do not have the Q-Symphony feature for the LG 65 G3 TV.

If the color is too saturated, turn down the saturation. Why would you buy a tv with a wider color space and not use that wider color space? I have a Hisense U8H and I have Native color space enabled on all content. You know what I did to make it not look over saturated? I adjust the settings to turn down the color saturation. Not everything has to be accurate especially if I’m getting a more bland image on a tv that’s more than capable to make that scene look much better “than intended”

Would you recommend keeping the S95C's contrast at 42 for everything? I know RTINGS did contrast at 45. My biggest problem is the shadow detail just disappears in a brighter room. I've tried the shadow detail setting but that just made everything brighter, including highlights. Backing off on contrast actually seemed to pull up the shadow detail as well as tamping down some blown out highlights. But how far is too far when turning down the contrast? For reference, I'm using movie mode with dynamic tone mapping for placement in a room that has lots of windows but no direct sunlight on the TV (sun comes from behind so it's backlit at sunset which is also quite challenging). My reference disk is Frozen 2, don't know how you feel about that one, but I think it's a good one because the magic has tons of HDR pop, colors are super rich and saturated and there's lots of darker scenes that can be totally illegible if rendered wrong (like the opening scene's wallpaper in the room, or the cave scene with the song where you might not see any of the cave at all)

The reasioning for DV is not image quality - its the support itself. Sometimes you have a video that only has DV metadata, and nothing else. Unfortunately, LG TV does not support DV with MKV format, making its DV support not complete in more than 50% of the times.

Having seen both 7 hour live streams G3 vs S95C. Both are very close. And for that reason, the ghosting and juttering or whatever it’s called is a lot less on the G3… on a bigger screen this is essential because it’s horrendous. Dolby vision or not. Get rid of the fomo and go for the G3. Same price. Maybe a little less colour accuracy or whatever but you won’t even know it because it’s gleaming. More tweekable settings which you will not bother with eventually but if you switch between you tube and a movie at least you have those options. Better up scaling because if you’re spending 3-5k on a tv you will upgrade in 5 years anyway. The overall decider for me is not the brightness or automatic dimming… it’s the more brilliant white and less ghosting / jitteriness. Colour accuracy is not the b all and end all on a bright screen. Right?

Can you do a gaming specific comparison of G3 vs S95C? Which maintains best accuracy and low brightness gradients, etc. My LG C9 looks like trash in dark gradients, lots of chrominance variance and clear banding artifacts. I'm looking to ugprade but I can't find a review that really touches on which displays have the "best" gaming mode since they are all unusable outside of that mode due to the input latency.
