It is always a treat to watch Sanath Jayasuriya batting. He did not start this type of batting in 96 wc but way before it. Look at this game it was in 1994 and he already made his intentions clear that how he was gonna bat the rest of his career. I have thoroughly enjoyed this innings as much as his other innings full of 4s and 6s. Love you Sanath 💯

Jayasuriya was a natural clean hitter along with kaluwitharana,who who changed the approach within the 15 overs and made one day cricket entertaining..after them followed classy Atapattu who was a treat to watch..

He did not wear the helmet at 4:01. I only saw Viv Richards who never wears a helmet while facing medium pacers. By the way, it really doesn't matter from which country you are from you will always like Sanath Jayasuriya's batting. Great entertaining innings.

Jaysurya had 2 phases, pre 1996 and post 1996. Pre 1996 , he was agressive but used to get out early and he had some hairs on his head. Post 1996, after WC, ranatunga approached him ans asked if he can open, he said yes, confident in his ability and blasted the bejesus out of bowlers in that world cup. Changes the very face od cricket which at that point was a slow start and wickets in hand was the most important thing, along with new ball.

And one thing more I want to mention that Jayasuriya was kind of a player who was not only a slogger but also a very good puller and hooker as well. He was equally good on front foot and the back foot. Simply amazing !

@@chetankrishna2009no he is not wtf. Sanath and Kalu were intentionally aggressive for strategic reasons. There was a whole world cup strategy behind them thrashing at the top and MAHANAMA being the anchor of inning. Then comes Aravinda DeSilva with counter attacks. Then comes Arjuna to stabilise and guide. Mark was a pinch hitter sent up the order. Zero strategy just hitting..
