Hello everyone, welcome to Bapama's Kitchen! Today, we will be showing you how to make a tasty traditional GSB Konkani recipe known as 'Sanna Khotto,' which is a delicacy made a few times a year in Konkani households.
It is made by first preparing a masala using coconut, dried red chilies, hing and tamarind, then mixing it with a coarse paste made of soaked Rice and Toor Daal (lentil). The resulting batter is then filled into pockets made using jackfruit leaves or banana leaves and steamed in a traditional Indian steamer called pedawan for about 15-20 minutes. It is fairly easy to make and requires minimal effort to cook. All you need is a jackfruit or banana tree in your backyard! 😛
You can also enhance the flavor by mixing in some finely chopped onions, pumpkin flowers, or a few moringa leaves, giving it a flavorful and healthy twist!
If you do not have a jackfruit or banana tree, you can make tiny dosas with this batter, known as sanna polo. This dish is best enjoyed with some rice, dalitoy, curds, pappad, and any upkari you have made at home!
INGREDIENTS (For 3 people)
TO BE SOAKED & COARSELY GROUND:
120 Grams Rice (Dosa Rice)
60 Grams Toor Daal (Lentils)
FOR MASALA (COARSE):
1/2 Coconut (Grated)
8-10 Red Ramnaad Chilies (Ideally Roast for better flavor)
1.5 Marble-Sized Ball of Tamarind
1 Pea-Sized Ball of Asafoetida (Hing Resin)
Salt to taste
FOR POCKETS:
8-24 Jackfruit Leaves
5 - 8 Coconut Leaf Sticks
OR 2 Full Banana Leaves
Wishing you all the best and I hope that your sanna kotto or polo turns out super delicious! Don't forget to like, share, comment and subscribe! #happycooking

It is not only kannada words whicjh have found their way into konkani but quite a few marathi words are being used by konkanis .it is only that those settled in Mumbai tend to mix marathi words like kando for onion and watanno for green peas

Truely appreciate your unequivocal position on Konkanni. Konkanni in all its dialects and scripts is beautiful. Also wanted you to know that Bapamma's "bimbul Gozu" has found fan's in my family. After seeing your recipes the Bimbla has more utility than the usual sungta (prawn) balchao. Borim Sanz Añvddeta.

Indeed, Konkani is a beautiful language and we should make all efforts to preserve our linguistic heritage ❤️ Food, like love, is a universal language and efforts to preserve our culinary heritage is the least we can do to preserve the tastiest part of our collective heritage! 😋 Glad to know that you guys are enjoying the 'Bimbul gozu'! I would love to collaborate in the near future to make a series of Goan Konkani seafood recipes that I'm sure a lot of us here would love to try out! More power to Konkani! ❤️😊🙏

Ideally wash first and then soak in purified water since the goal is to get rid of the dirt.

Yes … I agree … until and unless we konkanis stop using salpa instead of thoden , kannada numbers instead of konkani numbers ,kelawu for ek ek velu , minute instead if nimisha , loku instead of jana and find real words for beega , bagila etc Soon konkani will not exist .. Pls tell bapama to proclaim this in between her recipes

@@chandrikarao7538I guess that's a flawed understanding of how languages function. There is a great deal of osmosis visa vis vocabulary. This is a normal process in any living language. As for Kannada words, even my Goan Xtian Konkani has many a Kannada words like Dudu(Money), Kaklut (Mercy), Bhangar (Gold), Bayi (Well), Ter (festival) etc. Kannada is not that alien to Konkanni. All I want to say is, we shouldn't get puritanical about language. Konkanni in all forms are beautiful.

@@dennarddsouza4756 Arre try to retain is what I meant … thx for reminding duddu , Bhangar …. It will be good … My opinion .Also this was in response to someone pointing that Konkani sounds like kannadakonkani
@Anonymous-pj1xk
@Anonymous-pj1xk 2 ай бұрын
Yes, I agree. Marathi and Original Goan Konkani are derived from Mid Indian Maharastri Prakrit while Konkani has partly North Western Indian Shaurseni Prakrit origin also. Both Marathi and Original Goan Konkani are Sister languages and of Indo-Aryan language group. So if Marathi and Konkani include any Prakrit or Sanskrit words like Svalpa or Jana the language does not change still it is pure and the same. While Kannada and Tulu are of South Indian and of different language group if they use Sanskrit or Prakrit words like Svalpa or Jana then it will be a mix language. Similarly Goan Konkanis who migrated to Kanara and Kerala have adopted some local words, so those Konkani languages cannot be called pure Konkani but a mix Konkani. Words like Haanga, beega, bagila, Kandi, Dudu, Taggu, Bhangar, Ter, Banyi, Surve, Vattu, Suttu, Chikke, Hagur, and many more etc. should be replaced with Original Konkani words , if not available Prakrit or Sanskrit. The main reason Kanara and Kerala Konkani sound like South Indian languages, is their Heavy South India accent, Pronunciation, , high Speed, and joining and cutting words i sentences. North Kanara Konkani sounds like Kannada, Udipi and South Kanara Konkani sounds like Tulu , while Kerala Konkani sounds like Malayalam. Goan and Mangalorean Christian Konkani have lot of Portuguese (foreign)words.
