Join country music superstars Sara Evans and Martina McBride (a past Closet Chaos guest!) for a heartfelt conversation on the joys and challenges of their childhoods in Kansas and Missouri, respectively. Growing up surrounded by musical talent, the two of them talk about the pressure and grunt work they put in to jumpstart their careers- from performing at the local bars as teens to eventually balancing motherhood while on the road. With a myriad of shared experiences, the two criticize the drastic shifts in the music industry that they’ve witnessed, sharing personal feelings about “New Age” music and how they dislike that today’s music is catered to the trending charts instead of true, authentic expression. Tune in for a deep-dive into the enduring bonds that shaped their extraordinary journeys and the harsh realities of becoming country music stars.
About Martina McBride:
Martina McBride is a country music superstar. She signed with RCA Records in 1991 and had a long string of hit singles in the ten years following. She has 14 studio albums, 14 Grammy nominations and 4 CMA wins for "Female Vocalist of the Year". Over the span of her career, she has racked up over 18 million albums sales in the U.S. Martina is married to John McBride, owner of Nashville's Blackbird Studio.

I think all women in country need to come together and show these “Bro country” dudes what real country is. We need to be real again in this universe and women in country need to be honored the way they deserve to be honored. You two have more than paid your dues and you both are AMAZING performers

I remember exactly what it was like just driving around by myself for an excuse to go play their music and sing at the top of my lungs to their songs. In my forties now and these two are still some of my favorites. Well done ladies thank you. ❤

I’m a 36 year old man and I grew up on country music, and the women were always my favorites. Among these two amazing ladies I also loved Faith Hill, Trisha Yearwood, Pam Tillis, Lorrie Morgan, Jo Dee Messina, Lee Ann Womack, among others. I hate to say it, but I really can’t stand country radio today and I haven’t listened to it in years. It’s easy for us to say “Such and such was better when I was younger” but I truly believe the mid to late 90s and even the first few years of the 00s were a magical time for country music. There were so many amazing women getting lots of airplay and I desperately wish a time like that would come back.

Two of the greatest voice, being a 90s child in the Midwest the two women were EVERY THING! I love that they have genuine friendship, and just connect so well. I would love for Sara, Evens, Martina McBride and Kelly Clarkson to have a sit down girls chat at some point, I think these 3 women are the strongest realist women in music who come from truly humble Roots and remain humble.

Martina and Sara were my two favorites in the 90s. That was when I got hooked on country music. These two women sang about hard topics, and their music was so authentic, heartfelt with such empowering lyrics and melodies. The music had important messages that I know helped me thru my 30s and 40s as I imagine it did for many other women. Country today, I don't know what that stuff is, but it's not country. I'll stick to my tried and true favorites from back in the day. Thank you ladies for amazing music. 💘💘

I am totally stoked that you have an album coming out. I too come from a ranch/farm life. Your voice is pure country. That's what I grew up on and it seems to have changed over years. Recently there was a rendition of Toby Keith's I should have been a cowboy that I listened to and it was not the country like Toby. Keith. God bless you, sing for him And that will weed out all the naysayers. I've always been a fan of yours.

Fun listen. I did hate how... defeated the conversation sounded about the state of country music today. Mainly because it doesn't give hope that we can get our 90s country music back. As a listener, I consider it a blessing that I was around during that time. I hardly listen to it anymore. I have stopped watching award shows as it seems to only focus on new artists. Not that they don't deserve their chance in the industry but...where is all the country royalty? So many fans want the 90s/2000-2010 country music back. Thank you to you both for the music that you have put out there. Will always be my first choice.
