Sarah Baartman (c.1789-1815) was one of the first black women, from South Africa, known to have been subjected to sex trafficking. Sarah, also known as Saartjie, was derisively named the “Hottentot Venus” by Europeans as her body would be publicly exposed, ogled, examined and poked at in disdain throughout her life in Europe. She died at 26 in Paris, France. #HistoryVille

No race has credibility... every race has been complicit in some type of Slavery... all societies have enslaved and used people since the beginning if time... Britain ended it... They deserve the title Great Britain for singled handedly taking in the whole world to enforce the abolition of Slavery.. I'm irish and I hated Britain for what they done to us and their part in the Slave trade but now I know what they done and the lengths they went to, to abolish Slavery across the world, they deserve the title Great Britain... The barbary slave traders were far worse than tge Europeans... they invaded North and East Africa before the Europeans arrived on the West Coast... They would castrate the men the took ftom Africa to Arabia and work them to their death... No slaves they took past 1 generation...

Hmm, the saddest part is, we Africans behave sometimes as though we are not savvy. I watched a documentary on this lady, and it was heartbreaking. But even in the 21st century, there are people in African communities who recite dialogues in a language (or languages) they do not understand. They demean themselves, become objects of ridicule, and at the same time, a means of social media $. It's a problem we need to solve.

Ugh, I hated studying this in my freshman year. The next time Sarah Baartman's name would be mentioned to me was over a decade later at work on a South African TV show by a colleague, who "innocently" brought it up to express her disgust at how Sarah had been treated. Little did I know this was a precursor to an unethical, psychosocial experiment that the show would subject one of its writers to. By all accounts, it's still ongoing, although it's enjoyed no success... other than the pointless objectification of said writer. And all under the leadership of a certain redheaded Dutch woman, who shall remain nameless, and who also had a disturbing penchant for "casually" dropping unpleasant stories about South Africa's harrowing past into polite conversation with black employees. Thank goodness not all South Africans share her affliction... or addiction to self-aggrandizement. 🙄🤡 #2341

My heart still boils with anger every time I think about the damage they have caused to Africa with no compensation and sorry slavery still continues until this date because we still feel their superiority. Strong hate for colonial mind and its peolpe who think they are gods above Africa and they have a right to cotrol our lives. I wish they could leave Africa alone its enough now

No one can abuse of a woman if she does not want. Any woman should learn how to fight and defend herself, even in the point of death, because anyway, no one is permanent on earth. This should be taught from childhood. Parents should teach their children (female or male) how to fight and defend themselves.

In that time no black had any power to stand. If it was that easy to fight than we wouldn't be packed up in slave ships and end up in the West unwillingly. Remember people died for refusing.

Your comment made no sense. Are you saying she deserved physical abuse and literal slavery because she couldn’t “defend” herself from HUNDREDS of white men? (who were and still are at the time seen as superior) Sounds pretty ignorant, to me.
