Sarah Baartman (c.1789-1815) was one of the first black women, from South Africa, known to have been subjected to sex trafficking. Sarah, also known as Saartjie, was derisively named the “Hottentot Venus” by Europeans as her body would be publicly exposed, ogled, examined and poked at in disdain throughout her life in Europe. She died at 26 in Paris, France. #HistoryVille
