You just gotta love her: She's talented, she's unpretentious and down-to-earth, she's pretty, she's fighting for the issues she thinks are important, she's smart. Other (so-called) music superstars pale next to Sarah.

I remember recording this on a VHS tape because I was enamoured with Sarah Harmer. Passionate activism mixed with amazing song writing. Beautiful voice sung by a beautiful person.

I wonder if she knows she's brilliant. I met her once. It didn't seem like it. Which makes me love her even more.

I remember meeting Sarah Harmer back in the 90's prior to a Weeping Tile concert around the time that the Valentino album came out. She came over and sat down at my table in the bar and had a drink with my friend Renee and I. She asked me what song I most wanted to hear, I responded that I wanted to hear her play the song "Anyone" from the Eepee album, and of course she not only played the song but found me in the crowd and dedicated it to me. Sarah is a class act and a great performer.

I am adding Sarah to my list of the finest female voices of our day. I know that sounds a bit excessive, but I actually mean it. She is right in there with Amy Speace, Bonnie Bishop, Kathleen Edwards, Laura Marling. We live in a great musical era, really, but you won't find this kind of talent on mainstream TV.
@rkmootha18 жыл бұрын
+Victor Edwards I saw her preform at a hotennany in Ontario, Canada and she's even better live? - if that's possible

So talented and lovely Sarah! Where are you now...?? Come back Girl. I heard and watched your "Oleander" - just incredible, it's reeling in my head! And the present 'fracking creeps" need to hear this song now - talk about 'foreshadowing' about what some earth genocide corporations will do for money: sad. Thanks Steven for uploading....some of us are slow. But, like they say "when the student is ready - the teacher appears" *Smile"

First and foremost, she is one helluva songwriter and singer. I have all her stuff and it is in heavy rotation. I'll probably never get to see her perform live which is a bummer. But what is ultra cool about her is that she is uniquely beautiful and it seems like she has no idea. I love that.
@prrolg16 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that. Wow I think she is a super and natural talent. I really loved her song here. Reminds me of another super talented and prolific singer-song writer also from Canada, Joni Mitchell who blew everyone away back then.

So, I was just over listening to Sawyer Fredericks, the winner of the Voice [last season]. I am a huge fan, and thought that none of the voices on that show that year could even come close to Sawyer. So I had listened to several of his songs, and sensing something inside, I said to my wife sitting nearby, "You know," I said, "Sawyer is one of my favorites, but he is not as good as this." I then clicked on this song, and let me tell you, move over Sawyer. You are a very fine singer, but this is far, far better. Sarah is one of my favorite voices right now. So precise, so melodic, so sensitive. That she writes this stuff is just icing on an already delicious vocal cake.

I don't particularily agree with this post but it doesn't deserve to be removed simply because it brings up to what some might think is a valid point versus the many who disagree. This isn't some ignorant rant full of profanity.

It's not about "in her backyard", the Escarpment is the main source of drinking water for a LOT of southern ontario. Jobs are never worth the long term health of the society, cause if we're all dead, we can't work anyway.
@jessicalim89536 жыл бұрын
It's a metaphor. Her meaning is that the Escarpment is home to many - us, nature, and wildlife - which is the same point you're making. You might want to look further than just the surface next time! Music has endless depth.
@secoulte4 жыл бұрын
It’s actually about her literal backyard. She wrote this in protest to the expansion of the Nelson Quarry in the north part of Burlington, Ontario, literally a few kms from her childhood home. Blind Line (as mentioned in the song) runs from Britannia Road north to the quarry where it ends. It is still expanding to this day.
