You have options for your hospital birth! I think a lot of times people are concerned that they will be "confined to the bed" when in the hospital... I'm here to show you how much you can do with that bed! You are not confined, you have options and it should be everyone's goal to help you change positions for comfort, decrease pain, help your baby engage and rotate and speed up your labor! Who doesn't want that?
I'm here to show you how your "transformer" labor bed works, how you or your support team (partner, doula, family) can adjust the settings and really use it to your advantage!! The hospital L&D (labor & delivery) unit doesn't have to be scary or foreign anymore! Know what to expect so you are more confident for your upcoming labor & birth!

I just wanted to sit up. My bed was positioned so it was basically a big chair. It was the only position that made labor tolerable. My nurse kept laying my bed down and making me try to lay down and relax. I finally had to tell her if she did it again I was going to sit in a chair. She didn't like that...but stopped moving my bed! 🤣

It helps me to think about this as the nurses workplace, every nurse walking in has familiarity with the hospital and familiarity if it's something like labor and delivery, with the situation I'm in so I try to think of it more as just getting to know a working family in their workplace.

Delivered my son 3 weeks ago today, delivery was a piece of cake. Truly my easiest labor I’ve had and this was my 5th. I was induced at 39 weeks and 5 days, and to start labor I was 3cm. I was primarily laboring on the peanut ball, and walking around my room and leaning on to the bed with my husband applying pressure to my lumbar region and gluteus. For pushing I switched from litho to side laying, I ended up needed a epidural around 7cm in order to tolerate spinning my baby since he was posterior unfortunately so he wasn’t descending. Sure enough I get the epidural and hour and half later my water breaks, and 20 minutes later my precious boy was born. I did suffer from a PPH but knowing I have a history of a precious PpH and my crit at time of birth was 27.1 my midwives and nurses were prepared so I was treated promptly. Such a beautiful experience!!

I like the tips about raising the bed! With my first I labored mostly at home and was most comfortable standing and holding onto the back of a chair or the railing to our steps. This time (due with baby #2 in Feb!) I'm hoping to get to the hospital earlier and have more than 30 minutes in my L&D room lol. No car babies please. I'm hoping to get a tub room, but if I can't or the tub isn't comfortable then raising the bed to lean against might work well!

I really appreciate this video! I'm putting together my own birth education playlist that my husband and I can watch together, and this one will be really helpful for him! 16 hours of labor and I laid in bed twice, each time juuuust long enough for my midwife to check me 😂 Otherwise being in bed was a big NOPE for me. SO much easier to cope when I was upright! Also, I’m sorry but I find it absolutely absurd that nurses want to be present for position changes! I mean, I guess I understand for someone with an epidural or something who literally needs help to move. But my goodness, having had an unmedicated, undisturbed birth I would have found it beyond annoying if I wasn’t “allowed” to move without a nurse present. I listened to my body and moved instinctually the entire time. My movements and position changes weren’t really calculated or discussed. I just moved in whatever way my body was telling me to in that moment. Not a dang soul was telling me what positions to be in! ** That being said, I absolutely think it’s so important for women to know they have options. So often birth is depicted as something that just happens on your back. But the truth is we have options and there’s not just one way to birth. Knowledge is power! 😄

I’ve had 3 babies never had an epidural but also never been able to use those functions on the bed because I had my babies to quickly. With my last baby the on call doctor almost didn’t make it into the room in time. Babies head was already crowning before the doctor came in. They had to break down the bed as baby was coming out.

With my 3rd I had to fight with the midwife to not be on my back. My son was 11lbs and I’m pretty sure if I hadn’t labored squatting and on my side most of the time I’m pretty sure he would have been stuck. I was literally pushing and they kept trying to keep me flat despite telling them I needed to move. What would you do if the people in charge insist on trying to keep you in one position?
@crazyhellokitty2116

Thank you for discussing this. A very strict midwife works at the hospital where I will be delivering and she puts all women on their back. I am prepared to fight in case she is in charge with me. I have prepared my husband as well to work with me on this. Hoping that she won't be working the shift though, I'd much rather not fight and discuss... Any further tipps on how to succeed in that case are greatly appreciated ❤

I hate the hospital beds. Laying on these beds actually caused me more pain when I was waiting to dilate than the pain caused by the c-section that I ended up needing. The days I spent in the hospital after birth I slept sitting in the side chair. I could not lay back down after I started walking because it was too painful getting back up.

I had a baby last year in July and it was awesome that the bed moved so much! We ended up making the bed into all sorts of different positions. Mine also had a squat bar and we used it to get through my strongest contraction that broke my water 😂 I went from a 4-8 in minutes 🌊 it was the biggest pop sound and SO much liquid

I love this video but it's not realistic when you're hook up to the monitoring machine. And with my experience my baby never stayed in one place to get a good reading, and the nurses wanted me to be bed bound during the first 12 hours of my induction. So i couldn't even do all the things you're showing, and trust me i tried! I even did the wireless monitoring but the nurse told me that it wasn't working because my belly was not a nice round shape so she stop the wireless monitoring.

I'm very disappointed that you would recommend the stirrups. They are just for provider ease but terrible for pushing... that position closes the outlet. Knees in, ankles apart is the best position to open the pelvic outlet. Very disappointing to see anyone recommend this archaic device anymore.
@DisciplineOverMotivation-rj6tc
@DisciplineOverMotivation-rj6tc Ай бұрын
This was three years ago also in American hospitals you do know most stuff they do, even with midwives, is archaic right? Nurses are led by midwives and midwives are led by physicians so everything will be old. She may have gave the one bad advice but most of what she is saying on here most midwives would not even share this
