If you look at the 1 star reviews for Uncut Gems on IMDB it's just a bunch of confused elderly people complaining that the movie was too loud, had too much swearing and wasn't funny lol
@cheekybananaboy3361
@cheekybananaboy3361 4 жыл бұрын
dude when i went to see it in cinemas this elderly couple sat in front of me and on the way out they asked these two workers who were holding open the doors if they'd seen the movie and when they replied with no they said "don't bother" which was pretty weird because they both kept laughing throughout the entire film.

cheekybananaboy I don’t blame elderly people for not liking it. It’s pretty vulgar, and everyone does talk over one another the entire time, definitely not a movie to watch with grandma, that being said, I loved it

I don't know for most people, but for me the movie was unbearable, like I watched it on netflix, halfway through I just stopped, I dunno what happened, but to me the movie just didn't click, I asked a friend of mine, he said he had the same reaction as mine, so I thought that's how most people saw the movie, as just kinda boring, and now I see people really seem to like this movie (which I don't understand)

The PG-13 rating wasn't introduced by the MPAA until 1984. There are a few strange examples of "PG" movies that definitely don't fit the modern use of the term, such as Airplane!, Poltergeist, and Jaws.

I saw it with someone who didn’t want to see it while I had pneumonia and I was like half asleep and my head was killing me and legitimately all I remember about it was finding it very annoying. I felt really irritated that everyone was yelling their dialogue. It was the only time I walked out of a theater without finishing the film. I realize this is a shallow and incomplete judgment of the film but I’m probably not going to check it out again anytime soon.

It makes sense why Ralph Bakshi aimed for a PG rating, since the MPAA first introduced the PG-13 rating in July 1984, and the marketability would be severely hampered if it was an R rating. Especially if Bakshi said this was supposed to be a family film.

I’d say Wizards is about a bunch of subtle, connecting themes but I can never quite place them cause I always watch it on acid, still 10/10 for me regardless the constantly changing art styles keep me hooked, and overall I’d say what makes this movie so great is it’s dream like quality. Where the budgetary restrictions make stuff like the big battles less coherent I feel like they used that to their advantage and made very evocative montages (with excellent music). I think the selling point is that it feels like one of those really detailed dreams we all get every once in a while. The ultimate example of its low budget genius in my opinion is the use of rotoscope, which uses the flickers of colorful imperfections frame by frame that give this rush of magic to these badass demon warriors and it makes it work.

I was super disappointed with how Uncut Gems was released here in spain, at least in Madrid (where I live) I couldn't find a single showing. I'd say the movie's still fully worth it, I've watched it twice already in the past few days.

Wizards had a lot of really great things going for it, I personally like it a lot, but even I'll admit it needs some fine tuning. If someone fixes it up a bit it could be really good.

Yeah the comment Adum talked about regarding the ending which I wont spoil but when what happens, happens, it actually feels like a bittersweet end to the character. Like, to prevent the cycle like Jake Gyllenhaal's character in Enemy, what happened to Howard was basically the best way you could've ended it cause if not he would've kept going. At least he got one more victory before the end.

@@danbam3411 Around 28:30 Ralph is speaking about the original score nominees and says "I can't say I liked any of those" and then Adum says something about how he liked Marriage Story's score and Ralph says "I did too but I wouldn't give it an Oscar." Like what the fuck what film would you give best original score to? I loved the score for Marriage Story, I thought it was fantastic and fitting to the film.
@danbam3411

Cooper Haaland damn. Ralph shows how spineless and pathetic he’s trying to please to Adum. He’s been literally on damage control lately since his Joker review and it’s becoming more apparent. Whether you liked Joker or not, that’s another story. Marriage Story on the other half, had a great unique and whimsical music score to accompany the atmosphere of the movie. Randy Newman never fails to deliver. It stuck with me just as much as Hildur’s score.

That Mark Hamil factoid is extra interesting, because the original name for _Wizards_ was actually _War Wizards_ but George Lucas asked Bakshi to change the name of the film because the original _Star Wars_ was due to come out around the same time and he didn't want there to be any confusion. So Bakshi obliged his pal and dropped the "War" part of the title and had it simply be named "Wizards" instead.

my parents had Wizards on VHS, they taped it off SBS when it was on at 3am sometime in the 80s and we used to watch this as kids over and over on the school holidays. i liked the ugliness and animation (the overpainting real footage wasn't something we saw back then - outside of lotr which we also had on VHS) and i liked the story telling but i saw it as a kids movie lol - it was a simple enough for a kid to understand the concepts of war and fascism etc but still gritty

To be fair to Wizards I don't think the nazi imagery was meant to be subtle. Spoilers, but.... The main antagonist finds "ancient" technology & propaganda from nazi Germany, and uses it not only to shock his enemies but also to rally his previously-disorganized troops.
