No, its not a Folksong ^^ Theres a german latenight show, and Sasha poked some fun at different genres. Medieval Folk Rock too, so most of those Folk Rock/Metal Bands united and made a 1 Min piece of joke into a whole song. ^^ If you want more German Folk Rock/Metal, look the bands up, that are participating in this video ^^

the singer sahsa poked some fun at the folk scene on tv and some of the biggest bands in the game answerd and said "hey, if you gonna poke us lets do it together" and so this silly piece of fun was created

This song is based on a bit of a TV show absolutely no historical song at all, basically about a rich merchant getting a wife and city, merchant and wife basically have the same name (dumdelei, dumdiedelei etc.)

Ah. This kind of music always warms my heart beats the blood of Paladins and Knights. It is just fantastic that people are willing to keep the old folk sounds alive in this fashion too and just have a blast with it. It really looked like they had at least as much as fun doing this as I am sure many of us will have listening to it! This was good way to wash a way last nights Zombie horrors!

@OldSkuleNerd That's quite some well known names, for sure. Did you recognice Sasha and Saltatio Mortis? They both were on your stream some time ago bc they have covered Hypa Hypa ;) Subway to Sally and Tanzwut are long running bands of the folk metal genre (tanzwut has some Neue Deutsche Härte songs like Rammstein too) - you should check them out!.

This video is the result of German conflict resolution strategy. Pop singer Sascha (possibly known for his pop version of Eskimo Callboy's "Hypa Hypa") filmed market testers with a hidden camera in a latenight show, who were supposed to rate previews of fake songs of his, including a demo of this song. He spoke rather disparagingly about the genre of folk rock/metal, whereupon he was approached by several artists of the genre, whether he wouldn't like to record the song with him properly. The rest is history :-)

The song is created through a comedy show. Allegedly, Sasha would have made a new record with songs in different styles. The songs were deliberately badly composed so that the critics react violently. So a reaction video in XXL. But it didn't work with this song. It was rated positively. This and the worst were published.

to give this song some context: it got written because sasha (a german pop artist) lost a bet...and his wager was doing a thing he absolutly didnt want to do, which was participating/writing/singing a folk song. And no it is no traditional folk song^^

Nah fam, it's not a classic German tale or melody. It was a product out of a joke in which sasha the dude with the sword was presented with a fake statistics where players allegedly said what kind of music they could see him making. And out of that joke he assembled some places from great German folk rock bands and actually created this glorious piece

Ah... yes, it`s kind of as dumb as you might think. I understand the lyrics.... I often think it`s a mercy that so many (even Germen) bands have English lyrics, which are often hard to understand for a non-native English speaker (you don`t really have to understand but it sounds more often than not very cool)... And no, it`is NOT a German folk song...

Nope, that song is just fun for those artists, a parody on their own genre.

I kinda envy you for not understanding the lyrics. Basically there was a small TV experiment with a german pop star who fell out of the trends a while ago who made purposely bad meme songs in different genres for an unsuspecting focus group to judge. Some folklore bands collab'd on turning his medieval song snippet into a full thing. I appreciate the talent on display but just can't tolerate the lyrics. There's a particularly brilliant song by Saltatio Mortis critizing the economy and I would recommend it, but without understanding the lyrics you'd be missing a big part of it. Also without knowing what they are singing about it sounds more than a bit suspicious that they are actually using a rewritten version of the former parts of the german national anthem in their refrain. We're not singing the full anthem anymore, the first two verses are a bit too... 1940s. If you want to have a listen to it anyways: It's called "Wachstum über alles" by Saltatio Mortis, there's an official video by Napalm Records and if if you search for the lyrics on yt there's a decently accurate one far up the search results.
