Added score on top in 2022. Request from Russia and Spain. The instructions are Satie's. Tempo marking: Lent (Slow). Level 4, F Minor.
Erik Satie's first 3 Gnossiennes (of 6) were written without time signatures or bar lines. Coldplay's Chris Martin introduced Satie to his fans by playing part of "Gnossienne No. 1" after "Politik" at concerts during the Viva la Vida tour.

Jane, a retired university math teacher, started this volunteer project in April 2009. Positive feedback from wonderful viewers worldwide keeps her motivated. Jane is a strong advocate of reading music. She made unconventional sight-reading lessons that simplifies reading music.

@qqleq2 Quite sure I am using whichever hand notated by the score. Some pianos have a third pedal, the sostenuto pedal -- middle pedal on a grand. It sustains just the note(s) played right before pressing that pedal. That is the sustain effect you wish to achieve. My teacher never stressed pedaling techniques during my five years of lessons. I rely on my ears, trial and error, mostly error ;)

practice one phrase at a time, relax and hum along. do keep a strict count. do not move on until you are satisfied with the sound. soon you will have the entire piece done. after that you can relax even more and loosen the count a little. good luck.

Hey, Jane, I am an autodidact piano player. The problem that I have, is how Satie wrote the score. He seems to suggest a different way of dividing the notes between left and right hand. It's too complicated for me, and sometimes it seems not really possible. So I play it just simply, the way you do, too, playing the melody with the left hand, and bass and chords with the left.. However, I do not like the fact that I have to use the pedal so much, since to have to base note to be sustained, you have to keep the pedal down, but this means that for instance all the grace note are sustained too. I never learned how to use the pedal, I do it on instinct, and that works normally very fine. What is you opinion/how do you do it? Sometimes let go of the pedal and lose the basenote when too many non-chord notes are sustained, or just have all the notes sound together? I now do a bit of both, but I'd like to know if there is a rule or technique for it. Thanks in advance for an answer.

The best piece of advice i can give about learning a piece on any instrument, is UGLY-SLOW-ACCURATE. It doesn't have to sound beautiful in the beginning. Once you can play accurately, then you're free to feel, interpret and really play. Make your movements BIG, LOUD and INTENTIONAL. Listen to yourself and let your hands learn. REPEAT and PRACTICE. Once you've got it down and can play the piece without really thinking, then you're ready to think about how it feels - then you perform. Good luck.
