Once the table has legs again, get four kids to help fill the copper bowl with fresh clean snow. While they are getting the outer gear off, put the bowl in the table and have maple syrup and popsicle sticks at the ready. All four kids can stand round the table and drizzle maple syrup into the bowl, then use the sticks to pick up the soft toffee and eat it. The second thing I thought of: make mulled wine in the copper bowl, then, using pot holders, carry it out the reception room and place it in the table. With a nice copper ladle and some earthenware goblets set on the sides, guests can serve themselves.I don't know if you can actually do that with copper utensils, but I like the idea of it.

I was thinking the same thing (minus the Spanish part). The round sorched marks reminded me of where I've seen a thurible dropped and scatter burning charcoal. I'm wondering if the round hole on the frame was for something like a coal scuttle shovel to place additional fuel in the warming pan or possibly to transfer burning coals into a bed warming pan.

Shaun, so amazing your copper finds! This is a coal ember container to be placed under at the foot of a round table to sit at to warm your feet and legs. Around the round table usually covered with a table cloth to contain the emenating warmth for those seated at the table when it is cold inside the house or outside. Congtats you have found a lovely brasier to use when nobody had inside heating of their homes. Great find. Liza
