In the 70s disco was all there was. Similar to ballroom in the 30s, jive in the 50s, rock and roll in the 80s. Each era had its own trend. But none had the impact of disco. As for those making fun of it, saturday night fever grossed 282 million, 400 thousand. Some joke!

If you watched Welcome Back Kotter, he gave you a glimpse of a little move here or there, so you knew he could dance. But you did not know the extreme talent that he had. Somebody noticed, or he would have not got the lead for the film. It would be interesting to see who else tried for the part. If Travolta was the first to show his skills, I would imagine those who watched simply headed for the nearest telephone to call their agent for another film project!

My uncle Steven used to look like JT, was also a little bit of a heartbreaker and out doing the Bee Gee strut on a weekly basis in the 80s. God bless the Gibbs and Uncle S, great times x

This music and movie defined a generation- for me my earliest childhood memories are of this period of the 70s - the height of disco - my older sister who was a tween in middle school and her friends would be playing the bee gees on their 45s and this time period will never be replicated- only in our memories now- some of my happiest memories are connected to the bee gees and their music- i can’t be the only one

I live in Idaho I've always lived in Nampa Idaho close to Boise in Boise we had a disco that was named Grove Street in the late '80s it became deja vu but during the 70s and early 80s it was Grove Street this disco tech had the lighted floor just like on Saturday night fever it also had the huge disco ball. this disco had two different bars one at an adjacent angle to the main bar but the main thing that was cool about this disco it had these four fog machines that were about four feet in diameter red lights would start flashing and when the dancers were too hot these machines would come down out of the sky and come down to three ft .and it would fog out the whole Disco and everybody would get cool down I was 13 years old in 1977 I got my first car a 1979 and we went to the Disco it was awesome it was a very cool place to be and yes Saturday night fever will live on for some of us I like your article a lot that's the only reason I'm adding my point to it brought tears to my eyes thank you.

You're not the only one. We were in Sacramento CA in the late 70s (I was six or seven years old) and my older sister was also super into the Bee Gees. Disco is some of the first music I really remember.
