@@ShinzoUchihaX aren’t we splitting hairs here? One could argue MVC3 is a street fighter game since they had SF characters in it. Just like Marvel super heroes vs. SF and X-Men Vs Sf. They just expanded the roster so the latest ones are covered under the capcom franchise.

@@robertmatthews9650 I feel you, but it’s not the same thing by a long shot. Haggar being in SF would also give the character more chance of being fleshed out vs MVC games being “dream matches”. Myself personally await the day the trio of Cody/Guy/Haggar are playable in a fighting game that isn’t final fight revenge

It would have been best to keep what made part 1 great and just add new wrestlers and stories instead of turning it into more of just a fighter. I loved the wrestling aspect of the first game. I rented the crap out of the SNES version. Just imagine taking everything the first game did and adding new game concepts and a lot more characters but keep the wrestling in it instead of making it a fighter

I throughout enjoyed the SNES version in my teens, but only just some years ago found about Duo and the third game. Although the limited range of motion that's take away from the charisma for the first game I feel like the speed and the animation was greatly improved and the backgrounds have so much personality now, so a bit of a mixed bag. There's even more links between SF and Muscle Bomber: The Black Widow was the arch-rival of Rainbow Mika's trainer, and an injury caused by the arachnid fighter is was what forced her trainer into early retirement from the ring . Her trainee ,Mika, vowed to take revenge for her master.

While it's never been officially acknowledged by Capcom, I've been saying for years that there's strong evidence that Alex from Street Fighter 3 onward is Biff from Slam Masters. Biff's original name in Japan is _Alexey_ Zalazov, their movesets are nearly identical, and their appearances are extremely similar, plus it's entirely plausible that an "American" wrestler (who was also confirmed to wrestle in the CWA) such as Alex canonically from New York (or Metro City) could have Russian heritage and/or play a stereotypically ultra-national country-based character in the late 80s/early 90s in a wrestling company, as was very common in pro wrestling companies at the time.

Another thing to note about these games is that almost all of the characters have completely different names in the Japanese version vs. the American version. (Haggar obviously couldn't have his name changed since he was already in Final Fight. Well, I guess they COULD'VE changed it, but it would have been confusing.) I had the poster for the first game, which was in a game magazine, on my wall because I was a fan of Tetsuo Hara, but I never actually saw the game in arcades, and didn't get to play it until arcade emulators on PC became available.

You forgot to mention that King Rasta Mon's early design was a prototype for Blanka. Jumbo Flapjack's design is partially inspired by John Earthquake Tenta, and his Japanese name is Kimala the Bouncer which is play on the wrestler Kamala. The Scorpion's design is based on the luchador Tinieblas and his son Tinieblas jr. He also goes by the name Astro in Japan and i think this is now his canon name as far as SFV's timeline.

Being also a big Fatal Fury fan, when I was a kid I though Alexander The Greater was another disguise of Big Bear from FF2 because they're pretty similar, same body, same face and same hairstyle and they're both from Australia, of course back then was impossible, The Greater was just a rip-off of Big Bear since FF2 came out a year before, but now that Akuma and Geese Howard are both in Tekken 7 and after Capcom vs Snk...who knows? Maybe he is the same guy!
@sadowolf
@sadowolf Жыл бұрын
I'd say it's less that Alexander was a ripoff of Big Bear/Raiden, and more that they're both ripoffs of Baby Bull (aka Leon White/Vader). Alexander is actually the more clear homage to him since in his entrance he even comes out in essentially the same bull helmet. Big Bear further also pays homage by having his maskless babyface version, and a masked heel version, which was the case when Baby Bull wrestled in Japan.
