The parts came back from the powder coater fast as hell. In this episode Todd walks you through how to rebuild your front end using a 39mm fork seal rebuild kit and add a super trick part from Tracker Die to raise the front four inches with out having to change out the tubes. He also walks you through properly installing the trees and bearings properly. Lastly with a little team effort getting the fork caps installed onto the fork tubes. ITS a forking good time, so break out those tools and let's get to work! It's Saturday Sportster, Wooooo!

I am impatiently waiting for the rest of the series. ;-) I found you because I just so happen to buy a 2003 Sportster, for $600 less, but in far worse shape than yours. You definitely got a good deal. Thank you for these videos because I am learning so much. I am here looking for ideas for my bike. The previous owner went in more of a "chopper" direction. It was also "murdered" out with black rattle can. It would be much easier to keep it gritty and make it a rat bike. Was thinking of going the Trackster direction but with an inverted fork, like a clone of the Indian FTR, but that is much more cost than this bike is worth. Question: If I kept it in the "chopper" stance, could I use those extra length dampeners to make the fork longer as a chopper? It already has an aftermarket triple tree that adds offset, and it has a stock 21 inch front tire. (cause its the custom model). Cant wait for more!! Thank you

Yes, those TrackerDie damper will extend your forks another 2-4 inches. However, let it be known, if you're extending your front end, but not raking the neck, you'll be throwing your trail out of whack. Google "RAKE AND TRAIL CALCULATOR". This can cause your bike to handle very poorly if your trail is too much. Personally i have the opposite, my 01 sporty has really tall 16 inch shocks out back, and the front end is stock length. I put an R1 steering damper on, that greatly helps. My bike is really nimble, loves corners and hates open roads. Perfect City Bike

@@erikrapoport7318 Thank you! I have seen the RB Racing calculator but it does not seem to change the trail no matter how long the fork length is added. I dont know? Thanks for the help.

Just finished the Season/Series, but I figured I'd post my question to the appropriate video. I have a 2002 883 Hugger. Would I need longer fork tubes to lift the bike to an acceptable tracker height? I can not seem to find any specifications on the differences of a Hugger vs other sportster suspensions.
@lowbrowcustoms
@lowbrowcustoms 2 жыл бұрын
hugger is a little lower then stock not much they don't put progressive springs in the tubes so it sits lower. get your self a set of progressive suspension front springs. and if you run those tracker die damper tubes it'll raise 2 to 4 inches. 2 with the plastic inserts 4 with out. the other route is getting progressive suspension front springs, longer tubes and longer spacers inside, but if you only wanna go 4 inches use the tracker die damper tubes.

I noticed you never installed the rubber fork boots... will they slide over the lower fork assembly with wheel and axle removed, or will the tubes need be removed from the triple tree again?
@lowbrowcustoms
@lowbrowcustoms 2 жыл бұрын
yeah if you run rubber fork boots you have to slide the legs back out of the trees. So follow steps of removal of the wheel from episode 2, then all you do is release each leg from the pinch bolts, you don't have to take the legs apart or anything. Slide boots on, some get attached with zip ties and some by other means, then put your legs back on to the correct height, Torque the pinch bolts accordingly following directions shown here in this episode and properly install your front wheel back on, which will be in episode 5 coming next weekend!

@lowbrowcustoms
@lowbrowcustoms 2 жыл бұрын
Most likely you want to inspect your reservoir in the master cylinder first and see if its mucked up or not, bleed the brakes with the resivor open to see if the fluid is moving freely. if not you may need to change out the lines. We have a small video about how to make custom lines using the Goodridge line of brake components we carry here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a9p1lpxhrp2om58.html If its not that and free flowing you may have a problem with your calipers, your pistons could be stuck and or messed up in the calipers, spray the shit out of them with brake clean and try pumping the brakes before looking to replace but in the end you might need to just replace the whole front braking system which is easy but a bit of coin. Happy trouble shooting and if you are still looking for more answers feel free to give Todd a call on our tech line 1800-935-5050 8:30-4:00pm EST. Cheers
