I had to chuckle when I remembered the Andy Griffith Carnival episode where Opie was being cheated by the hucksters at the shooting gallery! They had, of course, adjusted the sight way off so there were hardly any winners and kept switching out the good ones. It was very similar to a 1903 but may have had the tube feed. The 1903 I have is stamped 42.243. I have an unusual coil spring with angled ends that I don't know is a 1903 part. Don't see it in any parts diagrams I can find!

Hello! I'm south of you in Louisville, Ky. I was told by my late Step Dad that there was an old gun in pieces in his attic. He was fond of it and told me to teach my boys how to shoot with it. Well long story short he had been trying at 85 years old to refinish a 1903 Savage, .22 pump action rifle. I am a Viet Nam vet and could field strip an M16 in no time, but I'm not having luck assembling this simple piece. Any advice or tutorials on how to do this! Oh I used my wife's Granddad's Ruger 10 22 from about 1960 to teach them to shoot. Thanks!

Great video! I inherited a model 1903 from my father-in-law that was his father's. The firing pin is broken and it's missing the extractor, but I'm constantly checking the web for replacement parts. I would love to do a full restoration on it and take it to the range someday. It looks like your rear sights are mounted backwards from mine and from the other examples I have seen. Not sure that really matters all that much, but just FYI.

Thanks for pointing that out. I probably got those on backwards and didn’t realize it at the time. Hope you’re able to find the parts you need. There’s a good place called Out Back Gun Parts in Albany, IN

you might have an easier and cheaper time having a gunsmith make and/or repair the parts.

I'm looking for a bolt for savage 1903 pump action. Mine is not holding the shell firm allowing the shell to bulge. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

what type of ammo do you shoot out of it? if i shoot anything high velocity out of mine it will fail to extract most of the time. shooting some 22 sub sonic rounds it cycles perfectly.

Great work Josh! Why are you adverse to Cerakoting other parts? Thanks
@MastGunWorks2 жыл бұрын
Good question. There’s a couple reasons. I typically don’t cerakote anything that may need to be replaced so there’s not a color match issue (like sights, pins, or screws). I also don’t coat anything that may have a precision fit (sear faces, pins, screws). Cerakote adds a few thou of thickness and can cause precision fit parts to no longer fit together properly or at all. I’ve worked on a couple 1911’s that I’ve had to sand all the coating off the trigger faces and slide race ways just so it would operate properly again. Cerakote, Duracoat, and all the others are great and have there place. Just need to be used properly.

Nice video! I've got one of these with a round barrel from a gun show. Bought it as a non working gun for $140 bucks got it home took it apart, cleaned it and put over 200 rounds through it in the same weekend 😂. I love that gun!

Great video. Just inherited one of these from my wife's grandpa. I'm trying to figure out why it won't push a round into battery and won't extract. Any thoughts? I'm in Michigan...

I would confirm what size of 22 it is (Short, Long, or Long Rifle.) After that I’d clean the chamber really well, and then check the bolt. Make sure tue extractor and the extractor springs are working properly and not damaged. That should give you a good starting point.
