Funny story, if you put Kerrigan in a dropship *after* she turns invincible, you can kill the dropship, get the "Kerrigan has been killed" message, and successfully complete the level.

Reminds of the first "Survive 30 minutes" mission when I first played SC; I was actually creeped out seeing the Zerg briefly appearing at the edge of the fog of war, I struggled to defend and won it with just one building and marines at the bottom corner holding out. It was a great experience. Now days, I can purge the entire map of Zerg in no time and watch how the story still says I failed even with my unkillable death squads roaming the hills and the base untouched.

Even better: It's been a while, but I seem to remember that destroying a Zerg building only makes you lose if you do it before the ending sequence begins, so I built a bunch of nukes and timed them so that when the last Protoss building was destroyed, they all fell on the Zerg base at once, completely wiping it out and all their reinforcements. :) The end was nothing but mopping up scattered Zerglings.

It felt a little cheap when this was retconned in a novel where it's mentioned that kerrigan had killed mengsks father and he wanted revenge for that. First SC without overexplaining everything just showed you that Kerrigan had begun questioning Mengsk's cruelty and as his second in command she just wasn't as ruthless as he was going to be, so she outlived her usefulness and just gets discarded.

For the end, I just had Kerrigam hop on a Evac and fly to edge of the map with Wraith as Guards. Got a victory with her alive, but it seems the game didn't consider it legit...

I did it while disabling "victory". Had it run for hours with virtually no damage to the defenses. Eventually, I used the cheat code to see how the zerg kept coming. Tons were just appearing and then attacking. The zerg couldn't penetrate my defenses.

The graphics may have aged but the dialog is timeless.

Imagine that zergling that has to walk straight into a line of 50 siege tanks. Overkill is a mild word here.

Kerrigan: so, Arcturus, you left us behind. Raynor: Awkward...

They should've done this into a secret mission - if Kerrigan survives by the time this dialog ends, she needs to build a bunch of ships and escape. Then the Queen of Blades just is not Kerrigan. Kerrigan says "screw you guys I'm going home" and retires. The rest of the plot stays untouched.

Kerrigan: We need immediate evac. Mengsk: Nah, you're good.

This game has been keeping me coming back for more than 20 years. I bought this game when it came out with my birthday money when I was like 6 or 7 years old, Bought the battle chest for this game and Warcraft 2 lol Money well spent. Awesome this turned up on my recommended vids

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who did this. Works better if you use buildings in front to block, and use floating engi bays for vision as well.

I remember the first time I played this mission I skimmed over the context and built a force to attack the Zerg. Didn't understand why I kept losing until I rewatched the briefing and read the objectives 😂🤦‍♂️

Arcturus just jumped without Kerrigan because he had full confidence in her capability also he is a busy man that he needs plenty of works to do.

I actually took over the Protoss base to the East and held the choke point.

Blizzard seems to have underestimated the power of a fully turtled Terran base. I did stuff like this years ago too, even had depots at the front to protect bunkers while the AI spazzed out. Imagine, BW and SC2 could've never happened had Kerrigan turtled lol

Battlecruisers alone does the trick, sooner or later those bunkers will go down due to heavy friendly fire from siege tanks. "Staying alive" cheat code makes it possible to advance with battlecruisers and then set up a ton of bunkers with ghosts up on the ramp for a amazing unit kill count

Imagine if this was actually a thing in the StarCraft story... Kerrigan surviving the battle on Korhal (probably typed that wrong), and never becoming the Queen of Blades? If this literally was a thing, then the one thing that saves the entire universe from being consumed by utter darkness would probably never come to pass. So this is probably what would have happened at that time: Kerrigan fended off the Zerg long enough for Jim to evac her. Jim and Kerrigan fight their way out from Mengsk's armies, while Kerrigan goes through serious trauma that the guy she followed loyally betrayed her. Kerrigan would never have become the Queen of Blades, and eventually Raynor would never have become the pessimistic drunk. The Overmind's plan would have failed completely, as it would have likely been destroyed by the Terrans on Korhal and on Char. However, given the fact that only dark energies can actually destroy it, it probably would've survived and kept on going. The Overmind is severely crippled from the attack on Char, the Overmind never invaded Aiur, and never planted itself on the Xel'naga temple on Aiur. Zeratul would likely not have come in contact with the Overmind, as it likely never even invaded Aiur. Zeratul and Tassadar would have never met. Raynor and Tassadar would have never met. The war on Aiur would have never occurred, therefore, the Conclaves way's would have survived and continued to thrive, and the banishment of the Dark Templar would continue to exist. The Overmind would likely be crippled on Char, or otherwise would slowly be rebuilding its armies. The only war at that time would literally be a war against Mengsk, as the Zerg are severely crippled and the Protoss care not for Terrain affairs, only up until the UED show up to the Korplulu Sector from Earth to stop Mengsk. It would be possible the UED and Raynor joining together to dethrone Mengsk. However they will eventually fight each other because Raynor and Kerrigan wouldn't agree to UED rule again. Thus its more likely to be a three way war between Mengsk, Raynor, and the UED. The evacuation of Aiur would never occur, and the Templars would never have traveled to Shakuras for survival. Tassadar would be alive. Fenix would still be a Prelate Zealot, and not a Dragoon. Aiur and Shakuras will continue to thrive in their own ways. The leader of the Dark Templar would not have been indoctrinated, nor would she be killed by Zeratul. The events of obliterating the Zerg on Aiur as Tassadar sacrifices himself for all Protoss would never occur. Artanis would never become a big character in the universe. SC2 WOL: The war between the Dominion and Raynors Raiders would be more of a fight against the UED, given Mengsk would have lost to the UED and Raynor if Kerrigan hadn't stepped in as the Queen of Blades, and eliminating the UED from the Korplulu Sector. The Zerg by this time could perhaps become a threat, but the need to obtain Xel'naga artifacts would probably become a case of preventing the UED from potentially using against Raynor and Kerrigan. Otherwise, it wouldn't be significant. Given the Xel'naga artifact wouldn't be a big factor, Raynor would have never met Selendis, nor would they have to fight to save colonists from the Zerg (probably). Raynor would likely not have seen Zeratul on the Hyperion, unless Zeratul had visions and figured to tell someone, and that someone would likely be Raynor because the Templars would kill him, UED would study him, and the Zerg are still a hiveminded problem. However, it is unlikely given Zeratul only had these visions since the moment he saw the thoughts of the Overmind (which has yet to come to pass in this timeline). Two options may be presented: Allowing the Queen of Blades to exist, or face inevitable doom. Option 1: Raynor and Kerrigan may take a visit at the Overmind to turn Kerrigan into the Queen of Blades, if however the Overmind is still around (if not then option 2 is obvious). However, in doing so, Kerrigan is no longer herself and is now a servant of the Overmind, and certain events related to SC1 will come to pass... such as Kerrigan unlocking powers previously locked due to conditioning. The Overmind at this point may still be seeking out Aiur. Knowing Raynor is there on Char, Kerrigan may spare Raynors life and the Queen of Blades continuing to do her work. Due to the Queen of Blades coming to pass, very powerful, and dark energies attracts the Dark Templar Zeratul, where he goes to Char, and discovers the Overmind. Zeratul gets contact with the Overmind, seeing into it's mind, and it into his. Overmind now has the location of Aiur, and the events of the invasion of Aiur would commence. Tassadar would have never met Raynor, but its possible they may get in contact, however, it's unlikely due to the fact that Tassadar was sent to cleanse planets of Zerg infestation. And since none technically would exist here, he would be on Aiur fighting. Given time the Overmind grew its forces, Kerrigan leads the battle on Aiur, and the Protoss are likely losing. The Templars would never consider getting in contact with the Dark Templars, and Zeratul would have a very difficult time finding a Templar of which wouldn't try to kill him on first sight... of which case, would likely be Tassadar seeing as how he was the one originally slightly interested in the Dark Templar's culture. Tassadar learns Dark energy methods from Zeratul, but in doing so condemns himself to the Conclave for meddling with Dark Templars. The Conclave would believe they are winning, and so send you to capture Tassadar for treason. Prelate Fenix may become a Dragoon. Tassadar might meet Raynor due to references from Zertatul, or he may not. If Tassadar meets Raynor: Essentially most of the events in SC1 happen in SC2. If Tassadar does not meet Raynor: Tassadar eventually succumbs to killing his own people, and is imprisoned in stasis. Aiur falls to the Zerg, the Protoss obliterated, and very quickly as the Overmind seeds Aiur with itself the Zerg grow quickly. The Templar's who followed Tassadar would likely flee to Shakuras with Zeratul, and most of the events in the expansion would come to pass... Aiur is overwhelmed, but the Overmind still exists, is fighting the battles on Shakuras, and without Tassadar, Shakuras would likely fall, as would the rest of the Korplulu Sector thus: The Dark Voice's plans come to pass as the galaxy is covered in utter darkness. If Tassadar met Raynor: Tassadar would have been freed from imprisonment by Raynor, and essentially the rest of SC1's events would play out in SC2. Tassadar is alive, Zeratul is alive, Raynor is alive, and all three are fighting on Aiur, as is Fenix. The only thing different with this scenario would be that there are less personal connections between the characters. Artanis would likely become a powerful character eventually, but in the end, most or all events in SC1 would play out as it did, and so we already know the story from there (from SC1 to LotV), except for possibly some minor changes. Since Raynor left and went to fight a war against the Zerg on Aiur, the UED has now claimed complete control over the Terran Colonies, and perhaps plan to hunt Raynor, the Zerg, and the mysterious Protoss. And from there: Instead of the Dominion, its the UED. Otherwise, the original story continues as we know it now. Eventually, the Queen of Blades will seek complete control over the swarm, thus would allow the Overmind to be killed by Dark Templar, assassinate Fenix (Dragoon), and essentially the rest of story continues from there. From here there are two scenarios: The game plays out normally as we know it, or its changed from the timeline. Wings of Liberty: You're playing as the Terrans, fighting against the UED, Mengsk, and witnessing the events of SC1 and its expansion. Heart of the Swarm: You'll be playing as Kerrigan which controls the swarm, but is however controlled by the Dark Voice and you're sent out to destroy everything. Legacy of the Void: The end is nigh. The Protoss fight to the last. Due to the overpowering control over the swarm, the new hybrid which come to exist, the extinction of the Terrans the Protoss have only one choice: All out defense and inevitable defeat. This is all the case because Raynor may not be able to free Kerrigan with the Xel'naga artifact because he was out fighting with the defense of the Protoss, Aiur and Shakuras. If all this being said, if the events in SC1 didn't go to script, then the future of the universe would look something like what I had typed.

Ha, I remember this. I actually pushed onto that ramp and turns out after the first couple waves it's just two spawning points of endless zerglings. Bunker + siege tank surrounded those and you can keep doing this forever

I used to do this mission and see, from the time the Zerg attacked, how many Zerg structures could I destroy? That meant having a bunch of battlecruisers hold positions over my base and not look at the Zerg's plateau until the right moment. Once they saw the Zerg structures on the high ground, the siege tanks would destroy 5 or more structures in short order.

I tried a cheat code where you can continue playing the mission after your victory and saw that the zergs kept on spawning on one specific location. I then used the same technique when I made my custom campaign maps.

Nothing like that first play through when you had no clue that was coming and the total panic
