Imma old school guy. Water mow feed. Aeration in the fall with seed. I do agree with the fungicide but all the other stuff is a waste of money. Biochar and humichar would have to be applied by the ton to get any actual benefits from it. Do yourself a favor and put your money into watering your lawn. It’s beautiful. Keep it simple

Depends on your soil type and climate. I am in a cooler climate and really with top seed cultivators, fungicide is a waste. I live in a sand plain and so biochar and humichar replace the $$$ for fungicide, retaining moisture in the soil is tough!

We have a new lawn that is only 1 year old. The lawn is turf type tall fescue with about 15% bluegrass and was sod installed in April of 2023. Along with the fertilizing that was done, I applied 40 lbs of Humichar one time per month every month from May thru November. I am continuing that this year. Aside from fungicides and watering, this is all that is done and I am very happy with my yard. It is dense and without weeds.

The biggest issue I struggle with in summer is always disease. I am tired of starting over in the fall, I need to try some stronger fungicide for preventing outbreaks than the old disease ex. Thanks for sharing!
@TheLawnLover
@TheLawnLover Ай бұрын
I was in the same boat a few years ago and I did some research and opted for the pro grade fungicides and haven't looked back since. It is more of a up front cost, but the per application cost is much cheaper than disease ex and you are getting way more active ingredient. Thanks for watching!

Increase acidity. Lime!
@TheLawnLover
@TheLawnLover Ай бұрын
@@TheObserver567 Lime doesn't make your soil acidic, it actually raises your soil ph. Additionally, I wouldn't recommend applying ph ammendments unless you know your soil ph and are trying to amend it one way or the other.

@TheLawnLover, your tips were exceptional and the information was concise and easy to follow. I'm a big fan of Anderson products - have you tried their Humic Coated Urea? It's a great product. Calcium is also crucial for drought conditions, as it strengthens cell wall integrity, stimulates plant metabolism, and reduces pest and disease challenges. I also like to apply Monosilicic Acid, which improves root strength and increases the plant's ability to absorb water, ultimately boosting overall stress tolerance. Your lawn is looking awesome by the way.

@thelawnlover.should you always put down something for fungus and disease just like putting down fertilizer even though you don’t have any problems?What product do you recommend for that?
@TheLawnLover
@TheLawnLover Ай бұрын
I have tried it without preventative fungicide plan in past seasons and I spent more time overseeding and repairing damaged spots in the fall. I would highly recommend using a preventative plan to limit disease pressure during the season as I discussed with the 150 rule in the video. Here is a list of videos I have done on fungicide that goes into way more detail with product recommendations - kzfaq.info/sun/PL077H8qFuAKs13VmwmkjlAEtxONYSJEfW. Thanks for watching!

Aside from heat stress from my neighbors window reflecting the sunlight in a rectangular patch on my zoysia,I just discovered that there is gravel and rock about 2 inches below my zoysia where it’s been turning yellow for the past two years during the hottest part of summer I’m guessing because of the heat that heats up the rock takes away the moisture in the grass area is about 6‘ x 6‘ area. What’s the best way of trying to get the gravel dug out from under it without destroying my yard?
@TheLawnLover
@TheLawnLover Ай бұрын
The best way to combat it is to dig out that area to remove the gravel or debris under there, especially considering it is only a 6x6 spot. You can spade it out in squares to save the sod squares and dig down a bit and backfill with a good quality topsoil. Then put the sod squares back on the area after you level it out. It will take some work, but you will be happy you did it going forward when it grows really well. I did this in a few spots in my lawn in the past and I am super glad I did it. Thanks for watching and good luck!

What are the best times of day to water your lawn? Morning or evening or both?
@TheLawnLover
@TheLawnLover Ай бұрын
I always recommend to water in the early morning. I will typically start my timers when I water at 3am and water through 9-10am to cover all my zones at 1 hour each. Watering in the morning gives the grass time to dry out during the day to avoid fungal issues with water sitting on the blades all night long. Watering in the morning when it is cooler also helps more water get to the roots and not evaporate in the daytime heat. Thanks for watching!

What can I do if I applied too much iron and my lawn started to yellow? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
@TheLawnLover
@TheLawnLover Ай бұрын
It typically takes a high amount of iron to notice changes in the lawn. Typically when this happens, the lawn will turn dark green, then go to a darker greyish/blackish color. Typically it will bounce back with watering and some time once it flushes that iron out. How much iron (and what product with iron in it) did you apply?

Man, those stripes are amazing. Any tips for getting consistent coverage with above ground sprinklers? I’ve installed Rachio Smart Hose timers and Orbitz 6-Gear Drive Sprinklers, but I’m struggling with getting an even coverage across my lawn. Some areas get 1/2” per hour and others 1/4” per hour. My last water bill was $389 and that’s for a 3,000 SF lawn 😮

How do you apply the liquid hydretain and limit the ounces your putting down?Doesn’t it mix with water in the hose sprayer?
@TheLawnLover
@TheLawnLover Ай бұрын
@hondatech30 I use an empty hose end sprayer and measure for 2k sq ft areas. For example, I would mix 18oz of hydretain into the bottle and fill it the rest of the way with water. When it's empty I know the exact amount i put down in that area if I make sense.

The average person isn’t going to pay for fungicide’s
@TheLawnLover
@TheLawnLover Ай бұрын
I have worked several beginners over the last several years and most of them like myself start out with products like scotts disease ex and bayer propiconizole hose ends to prevent fungus in their lawn. Once they get comfortable they tend to move to the stronger stuff since it's way cheaper per app. I totally agree that some people just won't care, but it's a crucial step if you are really going for that wow factor lawn.
