SAVING My High School Z28 Camaro In 24 HOURS

I bought my 1994 Chevy Camaro Z28 from high school back a few years ago, it was utterly destroyed. Since then I've started it about once a year and driven it 2 or 3 times. The exhaust was removed by a previous owner starting it was usually out of the question. The tires were completely bald with cords poking out, and the radio turned on with the parking lights. It was unquestionably bad. We're going to turn around all the major issues in 24 hours, and drive it to Cars and Coffee for the first time ever.

---------------------------------------------------------------
Common Questions:
What motorcycle do I ride? A few. Ducati 1198, Honda Goldwing, Honda Grom, Honda Ruckus
What do I do for a living? Make KZfaq videos.
Can you wheelie? No, I suck.
Are you fast? Sort of. I suck mostly though.
Where can I keep up with you off the bike?
Instagram: WatchJRGo
Facebook: WatchJRGo (or JRGo, FB hates my branding)
Do you go to school? College, for 2 classes.
Why do you ride so dangerously? What do mean? I was doing 25.
Do you go to the track? Of course, hopefully there will be videos in the future.
Do you play video games? No, but I might stream N64 Goldeneye at some point. Twitch: WatchJRGo
Are you afraid the police will watch your videos and arrest you? Something something evidence something something warrants and due process of law

“Big lip so you can’t curb this wheel.” Spoken like a man of experience. I always get slightly oversized tires primarily for this reason. If they’re a little wider but don’t rub, you’ll hit rubber instead of wheel if you overshoot the mark when parallel parking.

I loved the LT1 in my 1995 TA. My current LS3 would destroy it, but the sound was substantially better from the LT1. It wasn't a difficult engine to work on once you got past the incredibly cramped engine compartments they were usually shoehorned into. OptiSpark issues were worked out by the 95 model year, so that wasn't an issue for me luckily.

I've got one wrapped up on my shelf as well. Nice units and I think I still have the remote for it as well. I know it is the excelion (believe that's correct) model regardless. Mine has bmx bikes in background. I pulled it out of my 1998 Chevrolet Silverado 4x4 step side before I sold it. That was a very clean and crisp sounding truck and had dynomax or dynaflow full exhaust (cannot remember). Sold the truck within an hour of posting and kept a couple things (including kenwood head unit above mentioned). Miss that truck, turned heads everywhere.

I know a lot about it but it never hurts to learn or see something new. That headunit is awesome. I remember them when I was in high school. My best bud had a 1988 Camaro in High School. He just bought it back last year just like you. He pulled the small engine out of it and now put a 2000 model vortec 6.0 engine in it. He could not get the hook closed, because the intake manifold was too tall, so he put a low rise intake manifold on it and can now close the hood. He has so much money into this car now, but it has sentimental value to him.

I miss my 95. I had a six speed. This is certainly a nostalgia trip for me, but I have to tell you you put the tires and wheels on wrong, they're directional, both the tires and the wheels, meaning that you need to put the tires on the correct wheel facing the correct direction and then the wheels on the correct side of the car. The wheels are supposed to be "cutting into the wind", so the swoops are supposed to "swoop" back like a kitana. Loved the video man, I hope it all goes well for you and I'm super excited about your future plans.

In 2005 I treated myself to a $250 Pioneer MP3 capable head unit from Circuit City. So you could do MP3 CDs and have like 120 songs on a single disc. It also had the NBA Street Hologram graphics. Just like all my CD players, eventually it started skipping after you hit bumps, but I found another one for $30 on ebay brand new. It was crazy some person bought one and kept it in their closet for 13 years. Same exact model and everything.

Dude getting the chance to have your high school car and the resources to do all the things you wanted to do to that car must be like a dream come true. Enjoy the process. Could you please drop the model of that Kenwood head unit, I'd put that in my car right now!!!!!

I'm glad this car didn't go on the back burner permanently. I think fitting a 6th gen interior in that car is going to be like fitting a square where a triangle should go, but I like being proved wrong.

Surprisingly the hooker exhaust wasn't all that popular, I thought it sounded good and wasn't expensive. Had a kenwood in mine, probably a couple models below that one and had the BMR LCA too. Brings back memories.

20:08 Falling Squares works for me. Heck of a deal for $25. JR, you really DO go and are a blast to watch. The way you attack whatever needs to be done is amazing AF and inspiring. Your wiring and computer chops alone are very impressive. IDK, I think there's another Wizard in town... Glad to hear some RR parts came in. Can't wait to see that Rolls Smoke!

First car in high school was an MGB-GT, hardtop and hatchback from 1972. Lived in the rainforest of B.C and any car with no roof or a hole in the roof was undesirable. In that regard, keeping the rain out was a sucess, while in its favourite place...dead on the side of the road.

Norm Abram (This Old House) says: "There is no more important safety rule than to wear THESE safety glasses." Noted TireRack plug - what no sponsorship. How long was this on blocks in buddies driveway? Now if you had bought/leased the Hackney's Custom Car Care building, 340 N Indiana Street, 5 service bays, 2 wash/detail bays. Just saying.

I feel your pain with that wiring... Not once have I bought an old second hand car and had all the stereo wiring not completely hacked about, half a million crimp connectors on crimp connectors, eight miles of unnecessary wiring... Just WTF is wrong with people?! 😂🤦 Love it that you're into the awesome period correct head unit era - I do exactly the same with my fleet! 😁

Great way to handle the work on this car and not get bogged down. A day on it every few months and it will in good shape soon! I think it would be cool to continue to grab era correct parts that are cheap now, keep the original motor and do cam, headers, cat, ECU tune. That would be inexpensive and easy, comparatively, and still a lot of fun to drive.

I had a 94 V6 in that color. Made it to 135,000 miles before it started burning coolant real bad (constant white smoke out the tail pipe). I wasn’t to upset. I paid $550 for it and I had bought my 93 Z28 a few months prior. Swapped as many parts from the 94 to the 93 that were messed up on the 93 and junked the V6. 13 years later and my z28 still has the knobs and hood from my old V6.

Impossible for me to get my highschool car back: the guy I sold it to died in it a few weeks after I sold it! He lost the tail on a slippery road and hit a semi head-on while he was sideways; car broke in half. My beloved 1981 Mustang with the 3.3L inline 6, manual 4-speed.

IMHO that is the best post 70's Camaro body style! They didn't have fancy traction control or electronic stability control crap. Just a big V8 and a decent factory exhaust. With a 6 speed it is perfect! FWIW that laser engraved LT1 plate is at least 6 horsepower! Wouldn't the rear speakers be running off the factory harness and the one you attached to the 12ga wire? So wouldn't that be ok?
