How much stabiliser do I need to cut for my hoop?
~ by Martyn Smith - Sweet Pea Creative Design Technician ~
For many years, I worked in commercial embroidery and the waste factor with stabiliser was exceptionally low. It was all about “unit cost” and the ability to keep manufacturing stateside instead of offshore. The stabiliser was bulk cut for the different hoop sizes and I still do most of this when prepping a project.
Using the inner hoop of the chosen frame as a size guide, measure and cut a further 2cm (¾”) out from each of the sides. Depending on what you are going to embroider, 2cm (3/4”) is more than enough to cut beyond all the edges of the inner hoop.... Follow this link to continue reading swpea.me/2020/05/01/how-much-...

I own more Sweet Pea designs than any other design companyfor in-the-hoop embroidery. I love the complete, easy to follow instructions and videos. This one is brilliant! I too am frugal and hate the waste associated with machine embroidery. I've tried several ideas but none make as much sense as what you have laid out here. Thank you for your ongoing attention to detail and for sharing it with your subscribers.

Thank you Martin, I have now understood the whole patch stabiliser. I had missed one step (stitch after sticking it place. One comment I would make, I use my edge joining foot when joining the wadding, so it stays side by side. Again, thank you it was worth me tearing myself away from my in the hoop. Off to be even more economical.

I just made my own wash away stabilizer, search on youtube diy bio plastic, its a gelatin and glycerin recipe and its easy, worked perfectly, rinsed out in less than 30 seconds, i also use paper towel as a stabilizer i separate it down to 1 or 2 ply then throw it in the wash afterwards, the cheaper the towel the easier it is to wash off ive noticed, i hope everyone can save some money using these tricks, stabilizing materials are too expensive and too much waste, hope this will help someone xx Nadine

Does this method work with tear away? I always thought that puncturing stabilizer with a needle might cause it to weaken and tear. I’ve been floating one sheet of tear away under the hoop with one layer of poly mesh in the hoop, I will definitely give this a try for the layer of tear away I’m floating under the hoop, thank you so much!

Have you tried stickyback? Good for multi hooping fast. Use the sticky back to hoop, then you keep the picture frame space left after first block and add a 7 inch square of stabilizer for each of the next 6 inch block design. Saves rehooping every time. Dont have to pull the whole tging out just put your patch of stabilizer over top. Works for tshirts too.

Hi Martyn, Thanks for clear explanation. Where did you get the roll of double sided tape. Must get some of those pins. Did you just float the blue fabric and where do I get the design you did in your machine. I just bought the dinosaur book pillow pattern.. thanks
@sweetpeamachineembroideryd4694
@sweetpeamachineembroideryd4694 Жыл бұрын
Hello Viddy, the 6mm (1/4") double sided tape is make by X-Press IT that is used in scrap booking. The pins are upholstery pins but clover also sell them but smaller. We float a lot of our blocks and projects and this particular file was a test stitch out that we didn't end up using alas. Don't forget to post your dinosaur pillow when it's complete.

They prevent the slippery stabiliser from moving in the hoop when the hoop is removed for the fabric to be trimmed. We use T-pins if they are available or you can use normal long quilting/dressmaking pins. It's mainly to prevent slippage.
