i actually think the freezer trap was a good trap although it’s not complicated it’s a good concept considering she ran from the scene when jeff’s kid got ran over. now she’s stuck in place/frozen in place and takes her ability to be able to run from the situation once again

Besides the fact that the idea isn’t particularly interesting, It makes no sense why the lady who dies doesn’t even point out the correct antidote when she knows the number. Generally, the first priority is to get out of the water/cold environment. Had jeff succeeded, all shed have to do is get out of that freezer, find a way to get dry and clothed (if possible), and obviously stay out of Jeff's way to avoid being collateral damage. I'm sure Jigsaw had dry clothing outside the freezer for her had she lived.

10) The Drill Chair from Saw: I don't like putting something of the OG film on this list but with this one I just don't like it because we know nothing about it. What was the game, what was John planning to do with this guy and how would he survived? We don't even have an idea in the film itself why he is tested. Hopefully we get an answer yet in Saw XI or something and I also hope that the Disembowelment trap of Saw X's post credit scene gets some follow-up about how that guy is supposed survive those mechanical fingers. 9) The Mausoleum Trap from Saw IV: I put this one here because we know absolutely nothing about what the game plan here was AND it was played on purpose, like it should. Not even an tape was played and no hint was given to how they would be able to survive. I remember seeing the leaked footage of this trap months before the release of Saw IV and I thought it had to be fake, because of this reason (not helped by the fact that there was a lot of fake trailers for horror back than on KZfaq). 8) Ceilling Jars Trap from Saw V: while I did like Saw V rather well, this one indeed gives too much of the game away. They had to put this one, second last for it. That way it would have worked slightly better as it is the most obvious one that you have to work together and the next trap, the 10 Pints of Sacrifice would only confirm this. It would be a case of quick acting, only to follow it up with an oh shit, we actually fucked up moment seconds later... 7) Razor Box Trap from Saw II: this one I kinda hate for how simple the solution actually was. Look people, look before acting. 6) Hangman's Noose Trap from Saw 3D: At this point Bobby had already proven himself to be completely incompetent as a "survivor" and the only reason why this isn't worse the next, is because he couldn't work around the timer. But he could definitely have saved his friend a lot quicker than he did now. 5) Silence Circle Trap from Saw 3D: This was really the first real moment that I had something of: Bobby wouldn't be able to escape a carton box, let alone a Saw trap, though this might require a bit more explanation and some guess work on my part. By the way the trap is set up, it won't activate until he enacted by pulling the string to listen to the tape. He pulls the string and the timer starts and the machine goes life. Why do I think this? Of the timer we are definitely sure, the rest may or may not be the case but if she woke up and screamed for help, she would impale herself before Bobby could be tested so it seems likely that this too requires an extra trigger. But to come to my point. Was this really a trap that required instructions? He has a rontgen picture, all seems clear and there is no timer running yet. He would have all the time in the world (figuratively speaking) to get the key out, take his time to not hurt her too much, so even if her screams triggered the machine, it wouldn't have triggered the timer. He could go slow. No, he did need his instructions, limiting his time ridiculously. 4) The Motorcycle Trap from Jigsaw: The trap and its history is already pretty convulted but especially the way it is triggered bothers me so much. It literally has to be triggered by standing in exact the right place for it to work, for the noose to snatch the victim up and sorry, it makes John almost clairvoyant. It is a common issue in Jigsaw but this one pretty much took the cake on this. It is so ridiculous. 3) The Brazen Bull Trap from Saw 3D: The idea of this trap is fine enough but this is definitely one where they put the wrong victim in the trap. There is no justification of putting Joyce into in that trap. A completely innocent character that died a particularly gruesome death, because she married a charlatan. Never going to forgive this one. 2) The Lawnmower Trap from Saw 3D: It is clear I definitely do not like Saw 3D (though I hate Spiral even more, for other reasons) not to copy the video but indeed, this trap simply doesn't make any sense, nothing about this could work. 1) The Wax Trap from Spiral: so the idea of the Saw traps were always that you are tested because you don't appreciate your life enough. How would one appreciate life more, once they have paralyzed themselves from the neck down?! Having your spinal cord cut is literally an outcome from previous traps. And we aren't even talking about how William Schenk somehow managed to beuild this in the basement of the police station... Honourable mentions: the inescapable traps: I like most of their designs but I hate that they are inescapable. That flies in the face of the franchise for me.

About the frozen lady trap, it’s curious because I remember watching extras and they told that they specifically decided to make her naked for it not to be sexual. The reasoning was woman in a wet cloths is more sexual than a naked woman. As a woman I can’t say if they were right or not I mean “wet shirt” contest or whatever they are called exist for a reason so perhaps by making it in “right in your face naked” and not the “suggestion of nakedness” quits all the sexual appeal from this scene (unless you are a sadist and are able to sexualize a woman being frozen to death).

I don't like the grain silo either, but to the point of how dropping the the tool not all at once, but one after another is really easy. The solution is a conveyor belt. Which isn't even unrealistic because that could be already installed to fill the silo. Just chuck some tool onto the conveyor belt at different points and start the belt. Conveyor belt are used a lot to transport loose materials.

the puppet (or this movie’s billy) Schenk uses is a marionette pig dressed as a cop. It’s more of a motif then a metaphor; it’s honestly a great way to end the movie with a reacurring concept (a pig on strings being controlled) that strengthens what the movie is saying. and I gotta defend the marionette trap; the outcome was shocking when I watched it in theaters. Something about it gives body horror despite it being a pretty simple trap (compared to other movies). The movie also speeds up; everything happens so quick that you haven’t fully processed it then the screen goes black. It’s like going on a rollercoaster. It's a great way to end the movie. I would love to know what you guys would prefered as the ending trap, or do you think there should ve been one? ((:

My theory on the lawnmower trap was maybe they woke up and were told by a tape they had to get on it and hang on and basically just see who can hang on the longest or they will both be killed, so they grabbed the bars at normal height and then the bars were lifted and moved over on top of those, and whoever wins just has to hold on long enough for the thing to then move back down toward the ground

One other thing about the motorcycle trap that a lot of people seem to forget..... What if Insert-Name-Here pressed play on the tape recorder literally ANYWHERE else in the room? Seriously, he presses play and the snare instantly catches him around the ankles. What if he had walked over the Anna first, THEN pressed play? Boom! Trap over! Then again, this ties into a MASSIVE problem that I have with "Jigsaw" that you guys touched on earlier. The ONLY WAY that half of these traps would work is if someone was monitoring the game. How do the buckets know if they've made the blood sacrifice? How do the syringes cause the chains to release from the necks? What if Ryan HADN'T got his foot stuck before the grain silo trap began? I know John says a line back in "Saw V" when he and Hoffman are seen setting up the Nerve Gas House, about how nothing is left to chance if you're good at predicting human nature, but these traps are just WAY TOO PRECISE. Also, we know John COULDN'T have been monitoring the game because he was busy tending to Logan's wounds at the time.

So, not sure you care, but the electric test is absolutely possible to survive with 5 people. All 5 stand in a circle. They take the wires and put each one between two people so they can both hold it using the back of their hands. Ideally, they would be squatting close enough to stick the same elbow in the tub (shoes on and the only thing touching the ground. If that isn't possible, then they would want to stand instead. Everyone needs to have one shoe off and one shoe on. Let's go with left on, right off. Right foot goes in the tub. Right palm is touching right leg. Left foot is on the ground. So everyone is standing on their left leg with the right one in the tub and holding the wires between them and their partner using the back of their hands with them pressed against the right thigh. Given all types of metal have been removed (belts, jewelry, even jeans if they have those weird snap looking things, the electricity will pass from the r hand, into the r leg and into the tub bc that's the path of least resistance. Holding it between the backs of hands prevents the problem where you can't let go of it.

TL;DR ("Too Long - Didn't Read"): I try promoting perspective. Perception of realism is one major way enthusiast fans like looking at fiction, myself included. But I feel where that falls through in SAW, I will want to do my best to value and appreciate some other aspects like social dynamics of characters in a scene, or like the visual and artistic qualities of a scene. I hope some may find inclination toward some of these things for reason other than relation by perception of realism. I feel, at the very least, some of these traps or their imagery on screen can appear artsy, and I can appreciate that. That spiraling motorcycle trap is computer-animated. That definitely breaks immersion. Yes, it's also the kind of machine that would need to be made by a big corporate effort... like finely machined with its perfectly smooth steel and whatnot. It's not in the taste of John Kramer's constructs, for sure. I did not enjoy this trap. The lawnmower trap feels like a fictional dream sequence - a lie created by that character. Thus, I can restore immersion. The grain silo deals with asphyxiation, which I enjoy, and I enjoy the closed, narrow confines of the space, and I enjoy the yellowy-orange color grading. Thus, I appreciate the artsy imagery of this trap. I don't feel the forklift box Jeff was housed in was meant to be a trap, exactly. I think it's more like a rude awakening. A means of stimulating the senses of Jeff to be anxious and panicked, and to stimulate Jeff's disconnect from their environment. The Fatal Five's traps in their trial sequence were not great overall. I feel what's enjoyable there is the setting and imagery of concrete, and the social dynamic of their particular group. I understand you two are not especially fond of this group, but I am one such fan more enjoying of this Fatal Five group. I did enjoy the freezer room sequence. Like some, I do not appreciate the nudity or any fringe sexual content in my SAW film. That said, I feel it does fit in as it promotes the perception of cold. When people think of warming themselves, they think of covering their flesh. This character is bound and nude, and so they are in a constantly losing situation in their ability to survive. My upset with the trap is that this is a dependent trap wehere one may not relieve their situation upon their own. SAW did not begin this way. Thus, I feel SAW 2004 is my favored film because, among other reasons, it had the greatest sense of relatability for me including in its morality/ethics - John Kramer created scenarios where one was doomed to decease often in isolation _unless_ they were able to overcome a will to survive and the scenario's punishing rules. I am going to blanket and say generally any traps that are exclusively computer-animated and not physical constructs are going to be lesser, at least with 1990-2020s cinema. Beyond that, like I said, I have my own personality distaste for things like the dependency traps. The freezer character's only tool was a limited ability to speak and play the part of diplomat with Jeff. I dislike those unfair situations. And we see them too much. I do not feel any SAW "victim" (one playing a trap/trial scenario) should ever have power over the life of another. I feel that violates what John Kramer was trying to do. And then I remind myself that there's more than one "Jigsaw," and we know they all consistently break greatly from John's idealism. So why not? Let's strap someone down and break their bones.

I could put the brazen bull on number one it still hurts me that the most innocent personage from that movie had to die like this on top John knew it was unbeatable. It was completely John’s ideal it’s seems unreasonable from us to believe he planned it and yet he did. The number 7 on your list, I guess it can be excused by the lady being under influence of neurotrophic drug and suffering from the syndrome of abstinence not sure if I can jujube her there but it pained to know that the key was right behind. In saw 3D, Lawrence, just like Jill going for an execution instead of a test, taking away the saw when Hoffman was ready to do it didn’t sit well with me just like it didn’t sit well with me that his “test” by John vs Amanda’s had no key (and he still beat it). John set Jill to kill Hoffman and then asked Lawrence to kill Hoffman if he rightfully went for the person who put him in an execution trap. John seemed to love his wife yet instead of directly asking Dr.Gordon to kill Hoffman he puts his wife in danger and on top makes her what he claimed to despise a murderer. No way John could foresee that Hoffman would beat the trap like that so it was an execution so why make his wife do it? At least he foresaw that Mark will want revenge. I seriously need answers about this, did Jill choose not to hide the key somewhere and just play safe by making it an execution or John asked his wife (having another 2 apprentices) to commit murder? Perhaps it was just bad writing.

I'm not sure how true it is but on the 'Saw wiki' it said that for the naked woman in the freezer... the creators were going to have her in a T-shirt & knickers and it was somehow more sexualised than being naked?!?!

Yes I saw this as well, how did they see clothes clinging to her body as sexual and think, let's put a naked person in their instead?
@SabrinaRina
@SabrinaRina 3 ай бұрын
All I can think is wet T-shirt because it clings in a way that might emphasize her chest and the peaking of other skin. There's a reason lingerie is a thing. But why we're pretty much sexualizing her death, that's gross. Only think I dislike in horror, the murder/sex crossover. Either killing those sexually open or making a kill about a sexy body or during a sexual moment unless it's truly tied to a person's psychosis. If a killer has sexual shame at least it's projection. But Jigsaw or his followers are not about that.

For me the dumbest trap or at least the one that made mad (from this list) was the “glass shooter”. Aside from the evident location of the key, he could have kept knocking the glass bottles till the supply of obviously not infinite bottles finished. Also as a second option instead of shielding the man just try to swing him aside and keep him there till the glass supply finishes, won’t get unharmed but perhaps not dead either, the shoot sims linear and very focused in the center it the best solution but still better than getting hurt and in the end still letting him to die because of his slow thinking. Jeff not using his clothes to protect his face while getting the key also frustrated me, but perhaps very in character he obviously was “act first think last” guy. But one of the dumbest moment was when John’s lawyer (Saw III) after killing the blinded guy (and not in any apparent danger anymore) decided to forcefully rip the stitches in his mouth. Like man, you could have done it all along, avoid being killed, avoid murder and yet decided to do it when you actually survived and can get professional help to take them off (I mean he didn’t know there was more for him after).

Surprised the opening trap from Saw 7 wasn't on the list! I know Jigsaw has always had qualms with some petty stuff, but to be bothered about a girl playing 2 guys off against each other? Always seems so out of place Also your comments on Spiral made me think... I really enjoyed that film but. it's just not a Saw film. I think it probably gets so much hate because it's a Saw film by label but not by content. If it was just a stand alone plot removed from the Saw universe, it would seem pretty decent imo

Is no one going to talk about Bobby Dagen's wife? I mean, she didn't even know Bobby lied about everything. She blindly supported him because she couldn't have even thought that he was lying or had a reason to make that whole story up. So up until the very end she has NO IDEA what's going on or why she's there, and just to punish HIM, she gets trapped in a pig-shaped Iron Maiden and burned alive. Not just unfair but completely idiotic to me. Why victimize someone who was only involved unknowingly?? I would have chosen that instead of the cycle trap.. I actually rather liked the cycle trap for whatever reason, maybe just visual effects, but Joyce definitely had no reason to die.

@@HorrorSauce oh no, don't get me wrong, I watch all your uploads and she is definitely the least deserving victim, I just also think the trap itself is dumb, the execution is dumb, and that John's entire philosophy of not involving the innocent (like with Carlos in X just because he's a child) is squashed when you put someone like Joyce in a trap knowing they have NO CLUE what's going on.

@TDdelta777

The directors said that they went with naked because they thought that wet clothes will distract more and will make the viewer able to sexualize it, so the “let’s put a naked woman here for the sake of having someone naked” is what they wanted to avoid. The idea is that she is completely vulnerable and in pain and they didn’t wanted a “wet shirt” moment, you mentioning her clothes tearing apart probably would have been another thing they wanted to avoid. Also her having clothes one would have been worse for her if she actually survived, once completely soaked clothes are not a protective layer anymore, I always just supposed it was liquid nitrogen by how fast she froze and just like with fire her skin would have peeled with the clothes because of the freeze burn. Either way I doubt her arms could have been saved….

@TDdelta777

I also thought, the glass is not endless you can clearly see from when it comes from to load the “glass shooter” so just climb there and keep knocking the bottles off. Or instead of shielding the guy try to move him to a side, for me as female it would be difficult to held him in the position till all the bottles end but for a guy perhaps is possible. For what I observed the shot was straight without any indication that it would follow the body. But the quickest solution here unless you like a protagonist don’t get the “it’s literally in the trash man there is one single trash bin🤦🏼‍♀️” is stop the bottle from going to the machine and again for a man who is a cop and I guess knows how to climb it’s not that difficult.
