You need a 4 foot can't hook , turning logs is the hardest part. I now use my electric winch and cable wrapped around the log. I'm 69 yrs old and need to do it the easier way

If you wrap a rope around that log, your tractor's loader can accomplish turning the log on the sawmill deck. It's much easier than doing so manually.

Had this video on in the background while working on my computer.. Just for sound.... I know, I know... the video quality is always spot on, and should not be missed... but your audio quality is always top notch!!! I'll go back and watch the video too.... But I just had to stop when I heard the chainsaw!!! My ex wife's family farm had an enclosed mill and I so miss that!!! Sure the ex and I parted ways.. not by my choice... and that was sad... but I really do miss the farm, with the creek, and the trees, and the mill.. and the wildlife! The smell of fresh cut lumber is always amazing!!! Know what I mean????

Shawn, in case you might be interested. A couple years ago I saw a guy with a winch on his saw that was tired of cranking the logs onto the bed. He took an old wrench socket and filled it in with a few welding beads. After that, he filed the welds to the shape of the winch shaft. His shaft was oblong round on the ends with flats in the middle. He was able to power the winch with his half inch battery drill. I was thinking you might take an old socket to a machine shop, have them weld some metal in, and then mill out the shape for your shaft. That would leave your shaft original, and able to be cranked with the handle if you didn't like the socket or lost it. I'm glad your weather is getting better for you.

When I laid out the trails on my 80 acre woodland property, I used a trick I learned when my stepfather laid out his ATV trails when he retired. He had a number of loops so that if a tree went down, he still had access to most of his property. It doesn't have to be perfect but you don't always have time to clear the trails when you need access. I did a main trail first and added new sections when time allowed but I did have a master plan. It was carefully planned. I have a ridge (actually a glacial drumlin) and I put a trail down the top center of the ridge and also a trail on each side at the base. Every few hundred yards I put a cross trail up over the ridge but not necessarily all the way over. Your terrain and needs may be different. A benefit is that wildlife soon start using the trails so I can have stands and watches at good locations along the trails. The trails sometimes require bridges, culverts, and causeways but they are labor intensive and I avoid them when I can. Some wet areas require gravel or rock fill. A good trail system makes life much easier and adds value to your property.

I like these videos of you building and creating gardens etc. One thing I'd suggest for rolling a big log like that on your mill, maybe get some straps to choke around the log and suspend it from the tractor forks. If you do it right, it'll roll exactly how you want it without risking yourself

A rear weight bucket increases the lifting capacity of your front end loader substantially and can keep your center of gravity lower. You can make one out of a 55 gallon drum filled with rocks and Portland cement. You have to weld 3 point hitch attachments to it. I avoid liquid wheel weights in the rear tires but wheel weight attachments help as long as they don't make the tires wider. Don't travel with the bucket up with weight in it. It can cause a roll over. Keep any weight centered. Be extremely careful using the loader on slopes. Always use your roll bar and seat belt.

I'm going to suggest something for making the towing of the trees out a bit easier and causes less of a channel dug by the front of the tree. Get yourself a tow bart that goes between the two lift arms of your tractor you can make your straps short to the arms while they are in the down position. Then, lift your three point up - if the logs are not to heavy, you will bring the front of the log off the ground and they will tow a bit easier with less troughs being made on the ground.

Shawn, get a draw bar for your tractor. Fits right on the 3 point. That way you can lift the front end of the log when skidding it out. Way better than having it dig in and break roots, etc. like a plow. Towing on that hitch ball is not so good. Bet that pine is gonna make some pretty lumber when it is smooth and finished.
