Milling your own lumber on the saw mill you built is the best feeling. I was amazed at just how heavy it is to handle fresh cut wood.Beautiful job on the mill.

Amazing build and true talent sir. I’m blown away by how well your mill performs.

During the milling process, it is better for your productivity to roll the log 90 degrees at a time and performing your cuts. The stops at the side will help keep the log perpendicular so that your cut on the top will be 90 degrees to the previous cut. Once the top is suitably flat and you have a nice straight edge down the previously cut side, roll the log again to make your 3/4 flat, and then turn it 1 last time to make your true square cut lumber. You can also take your lumber that is cut to squared sides and gang cut them (multiple logs at once, as long as they all fit side by side through your cutter head) to make processing the smaller dimensional lumber faster and less time consuming. Also, after pushing your cutter head through, turn down the speed and let it sit there as you remove your cut boards. Then you only need to raise the blade just enough to clear the log as you pull it back to the start position rather than raising the blade all the way up and lowering it back down to where you want to be after you get back to the front.

Only thing lacking ... a demo of your design to lift/drop blade. Well done!!

Motorcycle wheels are the best for for homemade sawmills ‘ once there set up right they will last for ever and no tyre wear’ the steel band wheels with the rubber tires are troublesome ‘ the motor cycle tyre is naturally shaped or rounded to keep the band blade riding to the highest point’ just look how beautifully them wheels are running and not the slightest bit of vibration ‘ just look at the perfect smooth cut’ not only that u can pick them up for next to nothing’ where cast wheels will set u back many dollars or euros ‘ so if u are thinking of building a mill consider this ‘ also they have the large diameter which reduces band breakage’ eg less bending on the larger diameter wheel ‘ also gives you a larger cutting throat ‘ this guy knows what he is doing

Nice heavy duty mill , no shaking around , well done sir. Gas tank from an old lawn mower makes a good water tank , the shut off valve can be just cracked a little so you have a drip onto the band saw

your mill looks good. Home built? Suggest you put a gallon container on the top of it with a hose leading down to your blade. Have an adjustable drip feed so your blade has a constant flow of water.

Pretty goooood! No word of a lie that I find it more interesting to watch your home built sawmill saw logs than the modern high tech multi-million dollar sawmill I work at. Everyone suggests a water self drip feed for blade cooling/lubrication and I agree however if you cut in the winter where water can freeze you may want to consider an oil mist like chainsaw bar lube.

Wow ! I've watched the whole build and it looks to be a complete success, it cuts very straight. I've used Wood Mizer mills before and yours is every bit the match for them. like others have said a water drip bottle would be nice and possibly a power feed system? The wood mizer I used had power feed and that made for very consistent cuts.
