I was fortunate enough to meet his brother Carmine years ago and I saw Vinnie live at the Sawtooth booth at NAMM2020. He was fantastic and the drums sounding surprisingly great. Most importantly, I chatted with him after and he was very, very cool and we had a heartfelt conversation about my mother’s dementia and passing ( he saw her picture in my phone wallet and asked about her). A great guy.

I love Vinny's playing. It's so powerful and has this heavy rockfeel to it. Through the years he has developed a style of his own and became a drummer in his own right, which is quite amazing when your brother happens to be Carmine Appice. People would say about Vinny: O, he's Carmine's brother. But now they say about Carmine: O, he's Vinny's brother.

A few years ago I went to that Vinnie- Carmine drum battle event . I bought the deluxe package which included a private lesson with one of the brothers. I was prepared to handle , deal with Carmine but … I was very glad when Vinnie walked in for session. Yes ! Great discussion and drum session. Rock solid

Many newer school metal drummers can't do stuff like this - they're too used to relying on double bass for everything.

Exactly. I ditched my double kick when I was 17, never looked back. This guy, Bonzo, Ian Paice, Johnathan Moffett... all have a fast foot

You are the first person to play the 16th note triplet between the right hand , left hand and 2 bass drum 16ths like John Bonham did on Good Times Bad Times in 1968. So, Vinnie, you and I didn't invent that drum lick, John Bonham did and I can do it as fast as Bonham or you because You and I do it the exact same way, which is 100% correct. Not like Brian Ricky or any of the others that learned how to do some rocking horse movement with their ankle. We do it both with a lose ankle. I watched your foot and we do it the same. I'm glad to see another drummer besides myself and Bonham who do it correctly.
@mikefields41362 жыл бұрын
I use the same approach as yall do. Almost a moeller technique for the foot...that loose ankle thing
