the “Top Hat & Cane“ 400 models are some of the most sought after instruments made my the Elkhart manufacturers.
this particular Buescher 400 tenor, serial number #297,365 is one of a matching alto-tenor set in the Greenleaf Collection - in mint condition (original case, pads, and paperwork).

I found that this saxophone pares well with an an Ottolink Supertone master Florida 7 star and for a brighter experience a Jody Jazz DV metal 7 star. Both sound great with the horn.

How would this compare to the Big B? Thanks

a great question! the Big B models are Aristocrats, which have different keywork and body design. both are incredible models, however the differences will be in the Bell keys, bell shape (the 400 is larger), and neck. many artists prefer the 400 for jazz, the Aristocrat for classical, but they are both excellent instruments that can handle the playing standards necessarily for either! if cost is a factor, the 400 models may run higher than the Big B - depending on condition. we hope this helps! feel free to reach out with any other questions. thanks for watching!

no, this saxophone is not for sale - it is a part of the Greenleaf Collection at Interlochen Center for the Arts. however, there may be some in similar condition in different galleries nation/worldwide!
