This is much clearer than any other Russian teacher trying to explain the same thing. Thanks a lot!

This dude is one of the best teachers out there. But you can try to cheat sometimes with a mid sound in between A and O... in the back of your tongue, opening your mouth not too much. In time you will learn how they sound, and stop cheating, till then stick with this trick. Thats what Ive been doing Lol...

Тry guessing which O is stressed in the word Домодедово (Domodedovo - an airport in Moscow)? None. E is actually stressed so it sounds like ДамадЕдава (DamadЕdava)

I am right. It's like kind of intuition to guess which the stress part, also I heard many Russians said "A".
@jamesnorris17724 жыл бұрын
I think it is the o before the v.

It's important to mention that it's not typical of all the Russian people, because in nothern regions people pronounce all the unstressed 'O' vowels just as they're written. You will hear that for example in Arkhangelsk, Kostroma, Vladimir, Vologda oblasts, Karelian Republic, etc. But of course the way of pronouncing an unstressed 'O' as an 'A' is more widespread, because it's typical of southern and central regions, where the main cities are located.

What I did while I was learning English is exactly that. I have learnt to write English and 1-2 years after that when I became good at it I started watching videos in YT with Auto-Generated English subtitles and that's how I learnt the pronunciation. I think the same will work with the Russian for you (and for me ofc cuz I am here to learn Russian :D).

"МолокO": In this word the last letter is stressed. But the first two "o" are not the same. The pronunciation of the first "o" (/a/) is slight different from the second. The pronunciation of the first one is more closed than the second one. :) The same happens with the word "потолок". At least according to linguistic rules :) In the oral speech these "o" are pronunced as exactly the same /a/.

"Don't be afraid to make mistakes" is such an important concept when learning a new language. Although I was not the best at German in college, I received honors simply because I was not afraid to try. I made some pretty embarrassing mistakes! In high school, my class had a Russian exchange student, Jakob. His English wasn't always perfect but he was not afraid to try, and we all loved him for it. One day he accidentally said a curse word. He realized what he had said as soon as he said it, and clapped his hand over his mouth. As high schoolers do, we couldn't help but burst out laughing, but all 30 students got up from our desks and gave Jakob a giant group hug. His bravery to speak and make mistakes still inspires me today.

In my experience even though I am in no way fluent If I was to see a word I didn't recognize I would have a very good chance of getting it right cause I know what sounds Russian and I can tell if something sounds a bit off So my advice is to just absorb the language and listen to it
@codyminecrack2485 жыл бұрын
Same. If it feels unatural chances are mistakes are being made. Helps if you have Russian friends...

Hey Fedor, My difficulty is in understanding the order of words in Russian sentences. I can hear and understand individual words when you speak but when I try to construct a sentence myself I’m very unsure in what order the words should come together
@BoskyBlackguard4 жыл бұрын
The cool thing about Russian is that grammar doesn't really come into play with word order. You can put them in basically any order and it'll make sense to a native Russian (and I suppose people who know this hint)

though, since my native language is french, i learn russian from french and in the french-russian dictionnary, there is accent on stressed letters in it... Maybe in english-russian dictionnary, there is to (that could help to learn if it's stressed or not... )

wouldnt that be counter productive? because for those months you pronounced o as oh when it should have been ah you are teaching your brain that in that word it is pronounced oh. I would think that by doing that would only deepen your mistakes i guess

He's not right when he said "Everytime you see 'A' you say 'A'. For instance the word часы is pronounced чисы. (Chasih=Chisih)
@barnabaskocsi12914 жыл бұрын
This is kinda the same bullshit like the der die das in german language. The russian alphabet has both the letters for A and O, yet the words are mostly written with O, so now you have to memorize with which O is O and which is A. Makes zero sense and makes life unnecessarily harder. Яблоко, you could write it as яблака, pronunciation would be the exact same but no-no-no that makes way too much sense, let's just memorize every single O individually. Most of the time i remember how to say something but i have no clue if ita written with а or о. Like спокойной ночи. I usually type the words in google translate and listen very carefully how it is pronounced. I really like to learn this language, just let some frustration out because of the confusing things about it
