The subjunctive mood is also still found in English (the subjunctive mood is translated into Swedish as konjunktiv for some reason). The verb "were" is in the subjunctive: "If I were rich..." In the usual indicative mood, the simple past tense is "I was". We also have set phrases that still use the subjunctive: "God save the Queen!" "Long live the Queen!" "Praise be to God!" These verbs look like the infinitive, but they are all subjunctive. "God saves the Queen" is in the indicative mood and is saying that God is actively saving the Queen. We can't possibly know that. The subjunctive, however, means that we are wishing, "May God save the Queen." Also note that in "Long live the Queen" the adverb is the first part of the sentence and the verb is in the second position like the other Germanic languages with V2 word ordering. Another relic from English's past. The last example, "Praise be to God" has a Swedish translation that still uses the subjunctive as well: "Prisad vare Herren".

"They have to die..." Damn! The subject of the video shifted pretty quickly 😆 I love how languages shifts over time as well, and Swedish is extremely interesting when it comes to that. It seems like so much of your language is made up of inside jokes based on what Swedish used to sound like 😁✌️

8:40 Roligt att du nämner detta! Själv har jag stött på många skyltar där det står just detta och jag har därför ofta funderat på varför infinitivformen (att) äga används istället för presensformen äger. Jag anade aldrig att det hade något att göra med verbens gamla pluralformer. Bra video!

TT slopade de formerna 1945 och då hade varit borta från talspråket hur länge som helst redan, så de är inte direkt aktuella att lära ut.

På tyska har vi en ganska gammal verbform "ward" i sagor istället för "wurde", men självklart att man inte använder den i vardagliga situationer.😅

Die meisten der Wörter die er da erwähnt hat, erinnern mich sehr an Deutsch, was ja auch kein Wunder ist. Ich frage mich, ob Schwedisch vor 100-150 Jahren leichter für Deutschsprecher zu lernen gewesen ist als heute, obwohl es ja simpler ward;)
