This is a general review of the Scag SWZT 36 walk-behind zero-turn mower. I also show some modifications to the mower to accommodate both the Grass Flap chute blocker and Accelerator aluminum grass catcher.

Thanks for info on flap and catcher. I have a simple 48" for home use. Scag baffle setting makes the mowing good for summer and fall leaves. I run synthetic oils and grease with moly lith. I find that spindles need a bit more greasing than one would expect and wheel bearings also.

No problem, glad it was useful. Mine is due for an oil change and greasing as well. So far been using non-synthetic, but thinking about switching. Thanks for watching!

@@happymowingproductions3274 Go with the Mobil 10W30 oil vs. conventional oils. You are not an extreme user but going with the synthetic will prolong the motor hours by atleast 20%. I was tempted to buy the ZT and reconsidered going with the belt drive 48". I think the baffle system of the 48" was the deciding factor whereas the ZT is a few generations back in deck design. When I get too old to mow the 48" will have good resale value. When I quit the woodworking business in another 10 years I may turn around and get into lawn care that requires less brain work so the 48" will be my starting unit. By that time we will see some evolution on the stander models. I bought the Honda string 35CC last year after putting off that purchase for a decade. With the 48" one needs the string trimmer to use every other time I mow. the 48" hangs over the wheels more so one can pull leaves out of the damn trenches my wife likes. good luck and be safe

@@vincentrolfe1384 Thanks for the tip about the synthetic, I'll probably go that route. I started with a 36" belt drive but got annoyed with having to manually change gears every time I needed to switch between forward and reverse. The other thing that annoyed me was not being able to easily adjust the deck height. Aside from those two things, the belt drives are great machines. Had mine for two seasons before deciding to switch to the hydraulic, ended up selling it for exactly what I paid for it! They definitely hold their resale value.

@@happymowingproductions3274 Glade to hear your 36" original purchase kept the value. I bought the 48" rather than 36" due to resale value and additional cost for one more spindle and blade at nominal cost. If you have to change cutting height the belt drive is not there.

I been looking at getting one of these for a part time lawn business.

It's a great mower for a business. I bought mine to use on my 1/2-acre property (personal use), but a lot of guys have started and/or grown businesses with this mower. It's definitely rugged enough. Depending on the size of the lawns you're doing, might want to consider adding a sulky so you can run at the faster speeds. The fastest speed I can use when walking behind it is 4, but it goes up to 7. The 36" is great for 1/4-acre to 2-acre properties. If you're doing lots that are larger than that, then it probably makes sense to go with a 48". The other thing that's really nice is the deck height adjustment. Super easy to adjust it to different heights for different clients depending on their wants/needs.

Good video thank you. I can’t decide. I want the 48 but the 52 is tugging on me. 4 inches isn’t much but cannot make my mind up.

You are welcome, glad it was useful. I hear you about the size. In my case I already had a 4' x 7' utility trailer and the 36-inch deck is the biggest I could fit on it. I don't have room for a larger trailer so that dictated the size of the mower. Also, my lot is only 1/2-acre so I don't really need a bigger one. It takes me about 40 minutes to do my lawn using 3rd gear (no sulky). It really all depends on your situation. If I was looking to start a business in my area where most lots are 1/2 acre and not many have narrow gates, I would probably go with the 48 and add a sulky. 52 is a little too big for my area, but if the properties you're doing are larger without many obstacles than maybe the 52 makes more sense. Whichever size you go with, these are nice mowers and I don't think you will be disappointed.

When you step on the flap mechanism can it stay open in 1 press without holding your foot on it, or do I have to keep pressing my foot on it?
@happymowingproductions3274
@happymowingproductions3274 2 жыл бұрын
One press to open, one press to close. Some guys who run a sulky will hold their foot on it to hold it half open, but I don't have that kind of coordination!

Now you can get a handle instead of the foot pedal. The handle has a stop so to hold the door part way open. I have one on a bradley 52 walk behind, works great.

what model accelerator bag did you get? Can you link it? I'm picking up this same mower tomorrow and I'd like the same setup.

Bought slightly used swz 36 at a really good price for a nitch mower. If I find I'm using it a lot I might trade up to the swzt.

Just bought a SWZT 52" and having problems with the controls...they are sticking badly and you have to push the handles forward to get the mower to move...anyone have a fix?

This sounds like an issue with the tuning of the hydraulics. There is an adjustment for it, but I don't recall how it's done. I'll be getting my mower out for the first time this year in a few days, and I'll see if I can find it.

How does this mower do on banks/hills?
@happymowingproductions3274
@happymowingproductions3274 3 жыл бұрын
It does great. Never had any issues with it sliding or leaning and I've had it on some pretty steep hills. If the grass is wet you have to be more careful, but that's the case with any mower.
