Played a trick on a similar situation. Involved making him call me chocadooby, convincing him I was legally entitled to make him write all his emails to me in Welsh, trying to set him up with my hot single daughter (sent a picture of Mama June, Honey Boo-Boo's mother), faking my death, being my own granddaughter who admitted to killing my grandfather to gain access to his emails, and then writing as said hot daughter who forces him to answer trauma assessment questions due to contact with the insane granddaughter. That is when I never heard from him again.

I work in Cyber Security, and I'm now beginning to believe that a service could be built to crowd source these kinds of responses. No, I don't want to create any bots for this; that wouldn't be any fun. I would just be so cool to have armies of white hats making scammers miserable.

I’m down for Virtual Veitch if you are
@TesserId3 жыл бұрын
@@jamesveitch I'm actually going to let this stew in my brain for a while. I've pondered such things before, but mostly as a pipe dream. You're actually making me think this could be fun for people. Yeah, I follow the white-hat hackers who actually hack into the fake support call centers--which is really fun to watch. But, my thoughts on crowd sourcing that stuff is that those with the talent and the drive are too few and far between. Anyway, in case I fail to come up with anything meaningful, I'll go ahead and declare this idea open to anyone willing to further pursue it with you (something like creative commons but treating "Virtual Veitch as imminently worth of trademark). And, so the pipe dream begins--with a Friday toast. I'll be back if I think I've got anything worthy of KickStarter or such.

O.K. I haven't been working hard enough on this, but here's a super brief listing of key components. 1) Reverse bots (non-aggressive, white-hat decoys, anonymized to protect the crowd sourced participants who are the James Veitch style white hats) to receive solicitations from malicious bots and spammer/scammer/phishers. 2) Mediation service (like social media services) to offer up each scam/spam/phishing attempt to the community of James Veitch style white hats... 3) Tough choice at this point, should the mediation service lock in one James Veitch style white-hat respondent (whoever responds first or something involving community points) or open it up to a free for all. Sorry, my choice is to lock it into one respondent for continuity, but maybe keep a back channel of community participants to guide the respondent into a true James Veitch experience. 4) Allow the thread to play to it's natural end, and then automatically publish for general public entertainment. I hereby turn this proposal over to the community for comments.

I'm also in I.T. .... I actually have a ton of virtual machines setup on my own over powered high end server, I use them all the time to trick scammers into trying to lock down and encrypt the machine for blackmail into getting funds to unlock it. I will trace their IP traffic, and then send them a map with their likely call centre circled in red, saying the US Navy has missiles locked onto it and will be firing shortly. Some of them take the bait and order everyone in the centre to leave, others just disconnect, and one cocky scammer actually replied "So, you have my location, what can you do? Nothing! You can do nothing to me!". He is correct though, I even gave the location and IP details and occasionally the internal camera pictures to indian authorities, and they literally ignore it. Apparently there is 2 problems with these scam centres: 1. The locals all know it's there and actually support what they do because they think westerners deserve to lose money. 2. Many of the police are actually on the payroll of the scam centres. So I'm thinking, perhaps sending real missiles there would send a stronger message. 🤗

What I think is different is there has been a certain compression and quickening of pace due to the slick editing. As they say, timing is everything. Also, the on-stage shows had the advantage of a live audience which naturally provided longer gaps as the jokes soaked in. In addition, there was an authentic “laugh track” which provided nice contrast to James’ necessarily Sahara-dry delivery.

they do it to single out the kinds of people who won't catch on to their game so they get people who don't speak English well enough to catch the subtext for themselves, or who're trying to use technology they don't understand, or who're just drunk... basically someone who doesn't have enough knowledge or ability to make their own judgement call they're not trying to have your greed win out against your common sense so much as they're trying to remove common sense from the equation entirely as has been pointed out already, it probably also helps them to go longer without getting reported and blocked, 'cause many people won't bother to go to the trouble of doing that if they think this is so obvious that *anyone* could see it... failing to factor in people who don't come from the same type of world they do

I played a little with a guy attempting to scam me. Told me he was a general in the US army and lived in Washington DC. Asked him how it felt to live in a city without a state. He replied with a description of where it's located. Told him I knew where it was because I'd been there. Then asked if they had senatorial and congressional representation or just congressional. He sent me more information about DC's location including it being on the Potomac river. Before I blocked him I said if he was going to pretend to be from somewhere he really should know something about it. Wasn't as good as James's play but still satisfying. My sister was scammed out of her entire life's savings and continued to send them most of her money every month. She wouldn't listen to anyone about it being a scam. She caught covid and it kicked her over the edge into full dementia. She's in a nursing home now and all the information we could find was turned over to the FBI fraud unit.
