Good review. I owned these and loved their tonality and great bass resolution. Your comment on the toms - upper bass- these are stellar. Ultimately I could not get the width of soundstage in my room, and have been using a narrower baffle (and much more expensive) speaker. Your comment on appearance and quality of the speakers and stands is also spot on too. I thought that these would be a budget Harbeth, but their presentation is very different and warmer - not as much resolution of detail and “realness”. But Harbeth SLH5 + are what, 3x the price! Congrats on having a real sponsor, but I do miss Sith’s “high value” products.

I love the Wharfedale house sound and after owning and loving the Denton series and others, I was delighted when the Linton Heritage speakers were released. Really nice job with the test tracks. I am a 90's kid and these tracks were the best I have ever heard them coming out of my Linton's. Intergalactic just sounded so cohesive. Pretty sure Chocolate Chip Trip was mixed for these bad boys, pings coming from everywhere in my room and the drum fills oh my. Just incredible! Thanks for the video and nice job! For the Lena Hall track, I am thinking it might be your electronics that arent quite keeping up as I heard all the inflection, breath, and nuances in her voice. Those micro-details would definitely come out more in a KEF or something like a compatible more resolving speaker, but they were there for sure.

I was very pleased - ok - so overwhelmed with the sound of my Linton's - I had afew tears roll as I placed different albums on the turntable. The sounds of my childhood - that wonderful 70's feeling !!!! I'm a big Pink Floyd fan - which is what I usually use for test music. Mostly because I know what sound should be where. Then I placed a bluegrass album on. WOW !!!! I heard details on various tracks I had not heard B4. I must add - these are my 1st & only High End home speakers I've ever had. I love the sound !!!! The album was - May the circle be unbroken - has several people just jamming.

Randy, this & other reviews went a long way into helping me make the decision to go with these fantastic speakers! I matched with them with the NAD C 3050 with Bluesound OS Card & they sound incredible. Honestly it sounds like the singer is in the room, when the Blues singer taps his foot, you can hear what the sole of his shoe is made of! Warm, velvety, bass, an absolute pleasure to listen to! I've never spent this much on HIFI before, but it feels like I've made a life long investment, thanks for your insight & guidance!

Dude, this was one of the most detailed and professional presentations on a speaker you have done to date. I appreciate the hard work you put in on your videos. Just listened to my first pair of Wharfedale speakers (Denton 80th Anniversary Edition Speakers) and I must admit, they are just one of the best listening experiences I had so far with any speaker. I have listened to quite a few British speakers brands (Q Acoustics and KEF) and must say the overall presentation by Wharfedale is so much more balanced and pleasing to listen to, at least to my ears. Again, well done on this video Randy and I hope you will continue to do better in each video. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I auditioned Lintos in the shop, next to (2x more expensive) KEFs and Dalis, and it was immediately obvious that Lintons sounds so much more fun. Very musical, dynamic, engaging, a bit forward sound, but also boxy bass. Not sure if box is resonating, or what was the problem, but it was obvious. You don't analyze music like with Kef or Dali, you just enjoy the music, interesting experience. But for the price, its amazing sounding speaker!

I really respect the fact that you are evolving and extending yourself to review speakers at this price point, especially with a brand that you know and like, to see how (and if) they scale up the more expensive they get. In a way, you must go this route from time to time to justify that the more budget offerings truly are GREAT hifi values. So I, for one, don't believe for one second that you have abandoned your original plan and applaud your efforts for showing all of us that you have actually heard the higher end stuff and now can scale down and share value-priced equipment that hopefully, favorably compares to the big boys up the ladder. How else would you be credible? How else would you be able to say that for example, these $118 bookshelf speakers are really great, at any price? I respect your opinion/views now even more BECAUSE you have tried many speakers over the $1k mark and even up from there. And, may I add, you HAD to do this, to maintain the original message of this channel, which is to show us value-priced equipment, and that you don't have to go on a fake vacation, to sell a kidney, so you can afford to buy an expensive system. Thank you, brother. You have evolved, somehow, to be better, and you started at AWESOME. There are a lot of channels that I really enjoy and look forward to. YOU are my favorite. Still. This is my love letter, from cold as frozen nuts, Chicago. If I may add, I've heard these (Lintons), I really liked them. However, the bottom end, at higher volume levels, showed issues with cabinet resonance, and it was both speakers. As if, internal bracing was an issue or something with the crossover. I also listened to the 85th Anniversary Dentons ($999 per pair) and I must say, I was shocked. They sounded like my Diamond 11.2's, but more refined, and bigger. LOVED them. I would love to see you review those and compare them. I'd go with the Dentons (85th) and a little sub.

Love these speakers!! High quality 3-way is the only way to go when you stop to think about it. Speakers are what makes the music. IMO Audiophiles go down so many rabbit holes with diminishing returns. You get very well designed speakers and run with an average receiver you will be miles ahead of going the opposite route. NEED quality midrange!!!
@nikosidis
@nikosidis 2 жыл бұрын
@@cosmicenforcer2534 No it is not. There are many advantages with a 3-way design but it is more expensive to make than a 2-way design. Done right you will have a more clear midrange with better imaging. 1 driver playing midrange and bass is not optimal. The midrange will get distorted and have phase problems when working hard.
@Beathoven007
@Beathoven007 2 жыл бұрын
@@cosmicenforcer2534 A three way system doesnt simply have an extra woofer. It has a dedicated midrange driver. I cant speak for every 3 way system but I have both had 2 way and 3 way systems and the 3 ways have a fraction more resolution. It is audible. You would easily notice this with all the "twangs", clicks and scratches produced by playing a recorded upright bass. But for me a 3 way system does best when it has some space in a room and doesnt do it for nearby listening because you can sit too low or too high. That is why a two way system is often better. Furthermore.. a price tag might underline brand value more than quality. That is why these conclusions are difficult to make. One may buy for example those triangular Tune tots bookshelves from Wilson Audio for the price of a small car but for under a 1000 euros you can get a pair of Evo 4.1 or 4.2s. But if you have tons of cash to spend, you might want something that not everyone can reach instead of something better.

I bet they will sound even better if I update the crossover or capacitors at least. I don't know if I will purchase the Linton's but I really want to just because haha. Cheers and happy binge listening over some coffee!

My favorite part of your videos is having that cup of coffee with you. I don't know if you or your viewers notice this, but I find that the more detail you get from the tweeter the less my foot taps, and that could be why Wharfedale rolled off the AMT tweeter at 22khz on the Elysian 4.

Great review, almost pulled the trigger on a pair of these w/those killer stands, but I opted for the less pricey Tekton Lores, which are in a lovely "stop sign" red. Overall, I'm pretty happy with their sound and I'm enjoying all of my music all over again. These are my favorites of all of the speakers I’ve ever owned, and I’ve owned a lot of different speakers in my 50 years of buying stereos and speakers. In respect of Ian McDonald’s passing on Thursday I listened to “Birdman” from the wonderful album “McDonald and Giles” on vinyl yesterday. I’ve never heard it as finely presented before, and it’s one of my favorite albums. These speakers are a bargain at $1500 so yes, your cheap audio man title is very appropriate here.

Excellent review of the Lintons Randy. Your videos are looking terrific! - Congrats on developing a great channel and resource for the everyman audiophile. I picked up my Lintons in 2020 before the positive reviews due to the looks and build quality, hoping for the best sound. No regrets, they play very well with all my amps and are easy to have a cold one and binge listen to rock albums. I am listening to Black Sabbath albums and can’t imagine these recordings sounding any better. Ozzy’s vocals and Ward’s drumming are sublime coming from these boxes! (Thanks to you) I have a new UNbuilt pair of Criton 1TDX(+UC) still in the box…before I get to building mine, curious what your comparison would be between the upgraded Critons v. Lintons? Keep up the great work!

Very good review Randy. I know it's difficult to verbally describe the Wharffie sound but you did. A couple things I'd like to share, (I have Evo 4.3). There is a definite L/R speaker here; the tweets which are offset need to be placed to the inside. They are seated closer to one side of the cabinet and that side needs to sit toward the center. Don't touch the Kevlar per owners manual. It also suggests not touching the veneer. Wharffies come with white gloves for unboxing. The grills have posts rather than magnets because they sonically test better with grills...it has something to do with the extended beveled edge. Imma have a set of these. #LoveMyWharfs Thanks Randy. FYSWHappiness ok? Alright?

Hearing so many good reviews about the Lintons I don't think many people would be disappointed. Down the 40 hertz pretty good for 8" bass driver so a sub doesn't seem necessary. Here's the real beauty of these .... they look so good...I can't get over how good looking they are...they would make anyone's front room look like a million dollars ...through in a fireplace ... well you get the picture. The asstedicts are so timeless it would fit in perfectly in 1965 and they still have a perfect totally modern look . A few decades from now they going to look contemporary and they are built to last longer than that ...nice Considering that they were designed to sound better with the grills on... I mean who does that ...they thought about everything it's also a piece of high end furniture . 1800$ is really a bargain and your wife probably won't make you take them back. You're guests are going to browse through some of those albums stashed in the stands and want to hear it played and not be disappointed...now that's truly what the hobby is all about. Here's the kicker I could build something like these including the stands, but I think by the end I would have 1800$ in just materials alone definitely these are a no brainer bargain...you're satisfied, you're wife is pleased and your guests will be impressed... a total win.

I don’t have the Linton’s, but I do have the Denon 80 for near field. It is hard to describe the complete lack of fatigue with these speakers. I have come up with a list of audiophile terms and what they mean in the real world. Air - bright Transparency - thin, bright (Kef) Exciting - forward, bright (Klipsch) Many speakers, and some highly regarded ones have the ability to take the music apart (Kef ls50, etc) but very few, and much fewer in the sane budget range, have the ability to put it together as a cohesive whole in a non fatiguing way. Thank you Wharfedale for doing it right. If I ever move to a bigger place my first purchase will be a Linton.

Yeah! Finally, someone is gushing over my speakers. Everything you said was spot-on perfect. I've owned these along with the Leak CDT and Stereo 130 for 6 months now. I am a music lover and musician. I love nothing more than feeling immersed in my music and the Wharfdales delivery a totally realistic performance every time. My honest opinion is that it feels like the band are playing in the room with you. Spend 10 minutes finding a sweet spot and you get an amazing soundstage with instruments and vocals accurately positioned where they should be. Most vocals sound like they are standing just behind the central point between the 2 speakers. Drums sound awesome and real, singers sound like they are in the room with you. I cant recommend them enough. I love listening to everything but they really are perfect for rock and singer-songwriter genres, guitar-based bands sound fantastic, piano as well. I normally listen to "dad rock" like War on Drugs, Ryan Adams, Counting Crows, Dylan, Radiohead, ACDC, Ghost, etc. They all sound incredible. But I also tried some Jazz and Soul and the drums, bass and vocals are the perfect blend between detailed and smooth. For my music tastes, I could not have picked better speakers. ps the speakers can be easily moved closer to the wall from more bass. Its as easy as sliding them backwards and forwards like a volume slider for the bass.

Great review, spot on. Together with a refurbished Denon PMA-1060 amplifier the Lintons are really good for the 1550 euros I spent on speakers+stands+amplifier 2 years ago. With the Denon PMA-QS10 Mk2 I have now, it's as if the Lintons can't always keep up with that amplifier's capabilities. The Lintons are a bit boomy sometimes. On the PMA-1060 you can leave bass&treble controls in neutral position all the time. With the PMA-QS10 soundstage is better due to the high-end nature of the amplifier, but bass needs to be throttled back to get it right.

I beleive these were designed as a "Grill On" speaker, like the traditional speakers they were based on. The grill actually forms part of the audio design of the speaker and they suffer a little when the grills are off, due to the recessed front panel. Designed to be like the bigger speakers from the 60's and 70's where they were a piece of furniture as much as a speaker.

Just got these on sale with the stands, and after testing (and returning) 3 sets of high-end speakers including SVS & KEF's, these sounded the best without question. We did wind up getting the SVS 1000 Pro, which rounded it out perfectly. We're beyond happy with these speakers. That said, it is a bit of a let down that as high-end as they are (down to the white gloves, and thick parchment they include), with all the high end features and Union Jack on the back, they're still made in China (with that stated right next to the Union Jack). But, for the money these are beyond spectacular. For what it's worth, we're running a Cambridge CXA61 through them. Just amazing. I believe they're still on sale, for those just watching this. I may watch his KLH Model 5 video, as well. I'm thinking of picking up a set of those for my studio.
