Zombie Fish, Twig Meat and Skull Delicious. You won’t believe what Norwegians eat for Christmas! Some of the stuff you will witness in this hilarious video might make a long-lasting scar on your soul. And appetite. But Norwegians are actually looking forward to these meals.
Traditional Norwegian Christmas food is based on ancient traditions. Some of these dishes were eaten by the Vikings over a thousand years ago. The dishes are marked by a raw and brutal time, when there were no refrigerators, freezers or shops. These are delicacies that should last through a long, cold and dark winter. Therefore, the ingredients are completely unique and quirky, the recipes are characterized by the connection to nature and a passionate to old, fat sheep.
In this sarcastic and very comprehensive Norwegian Christmas Food video, Ronald invites you on an insane culinary journey through the Norwegian cuisine. He shows you the Norwegian way of making real and authentic Christmas food. To cook Lutefisk he must use caustic soda, twigs and branches for dish nr 2 and a bandage in front of his eyes for number 3. Since the last dish is so scary and disgusting that you get a nightmare from watching it. But the meat is lovely and incredibly tender.
The guys have decorated for Christmas with art from El Gronk in the kitchen. It's a good and happy mood - until Ronald starts cooking. Then Mads starts complaining loudly, while Ronald tries everything he can to keep the facade. But he ends up turning green and having to vomit.
As always very self-deprecating and totally over the top!
Have a beautiful and happy Christmas with a lot of good food and drinks!

** ABOUT YOURWAY2NORWAY **
YOURWAY2NORWAY is a different travel channel. We combine education with humor and entertainment. It’s an authentic inside guide to real life in Norway. We highlight small and large themes, cultural characteristics and Norwegian phenomena. All the stuff you won’t find in a tourist brochure.
The content is perfect for people who travel to Norway as tourists, visit friends and family in Norway, study in Norway or work in Norway. It is ideal for anyone with Norwegian roots and DNA. It is also interesting for anyone who wants to learn more about other cultures and people. And for all of you looking for some smile and laughter.
The guys behind are; Ronald Sagatun - a enthusiastic and sarcastic Sami Latino with a Norwegian passport. Throughout his life he has tried to find out what it means to be Norwegian. Now he shares his hilarious experiences. Mads is a grumpy Norwegian dude, providing the channel authenticity and the typical Norwegian way of viewing the world. We always try to be funny, self-deprecating, human and, when it´s necessary; sincere and passionate.

Mads says "Mostly cry," Ronald says "Vomit." I pick up on these key words: Caustic soda, dead cod, twig meat, sheep ribs, sheep head(committed suicide), Split/smoked/burnt, eyeballs. Picture all of this put together to make a wonderful Norwegian Christmas meal. Ronald, your reactions are PRICELESS!! You both make me laugh so hard with this! Ronald, what in the name of God and ALL. THAT. IS. HOLY. did you do to deserve this? Why does your best friend hate you so much? Mads, it's time to LET IT GO! Whatever Ronald has done to you in the past, you need to forgive him and move on. Or, you know, at least not film him when you're trying to kill him. I felt like I just watched a fifteen minute horror film just because it had my two favourite actors in it and now I don't like one of them any more ;). I LOVED it but I felt too bad for Ronald to "enjoy" it (plus I had my hand over my eyes through most of it!). I have to say though too - Mads singing "have a Happy Christmas" song while Ronald was slowly expiring in front of his eyes was FREAKING GENIUS! X

Our lutefisk is already reconstituted, all we have to do is defrost it, put cheesecloth in a large pot of softly boiling water, and serve it with boiled/mashed potatoes, melted butter, lefse, green beans, canned cranberry sauce, home made rolls, mild wine! (And, by the way, it turns the inside of the kettle black!)---I've never heard of those other two dishes...did they get created after my Great-Grandparents came over in the 1880's?!---Next, you two tell us what you will actually be eating with your families?! Highlights: 1. Mads' baritone voice: "Mostly cry." When he hears :"You're gonna laugh. You're gonna cry..." 2. Petrified cod + Drano = edible Christmas treat? (Amazingly, I had a friend from Norway who served this one year and it wasn't as bad as one might think.) 3. Mads' baritone voice: "It's probably committed suicide just walking on the cliffs." (Referring to the sheep.) 4. Solemn holiday music in the background during the eye removal process. 5. Given a choice between this holiday meal and COVID-19, I'll take the latter. Thanks, guys, for a genuinely unforgettable (no matter how hard I try!!) episode. Later edit: Upon further reflection, I realize that all the ingredients shown here are probably included in a typical American hot dog. Along with some others that may be even worse. So maybe my squeamishness was unjustified...?

My French/German/Native American mother learned to prepare lutefisk just so my paternal grandfather could have it for every Christmas Eve until he died. But we still had turkey, stuffing, mashed rutabagas (to commemorate my Swedish grandma's parents first crop on their Minnesota homestead), mashed potatos, and Brussels sprouts with gravy over all the veggies and stuffing. Americans, we love our gravy. 😁

Well, on Christmas eve, I eat a well aged, and moldy Blue cheese, with salt cure olives. To wash it down, I every have wine, or Guiness. Other than that, I eat pepper sauce on all my food. A friend was in my fridg, and he asked how many bottles of hot sauce do I have. I said a few. he counted 48. That's not a lot, is it?

I am such a big fan of you two. Your videos always make me laugh. Keep it up. My son love lutefisk. Eat it for snack and “protein”. We eat roast turkey or ham. Nothing exotic like yours.

Hei Ronald og Mads. This is vid. is a great way to showcase some of our traditional Christmas foods and put your usual hilarious stamp on it. You spilling the corrosive lye on the floor as so funny, Mads didn't seem to mind though! Mor and I really loved the whole vid. This Christmas will be extra small scale and quiet due to covid, the U.K is not doing very well in coping at the moment. We wish you god jul og tusen takk. Johnny og Mor. North West U.K.

My German/Norwegian mom used to have lutefisk with butter over potatoes for Christmas when she was a little farm girl. She would look forward to making a little bit for herself but was a little sad that her children reacted to the lutefisk the same way you did. We loved everything else she made but we never could handle the fish jell-o.

Enjoyed (!?) your video. Coming from a Norwegian background I am naturally reminded of the particularly ingrained stoicism, self-denial, and all around unamazement in my relatives claiming to like these foods!!! At Christmas Eve it seemed almost like a bizarre food competition with the adults. While they smoked cigarettes and ate these items at the same time, we kids retreated elsewhere to enjoy our cold cuts, meatballs, breads followed by delicious cookies and cakes. Still, not all bad. Loved those days🥳 God jul to you and Mads. Fun video. Minus the eyeballs 🤗
