Re-running some copper chop tailings to recover additional free copper after screening and static precipitation. I was amazed at the amount of copper left in the "waste" from this granulator copper chopping line.

Just dump a small bottle of Jet-Dry in your water recirculation system it will save you a whole lot of time I'm a gold miner in Alaska and when we do beach mining we use either Dawn dish soap in our water when we're using a recirculation system or jet dry to keep the ultrafine flower gold from floating away

You could probably put the concentrates into an acetone bath to dissolve off remaining bits of plastic/wire insulation. Next run this solution through a distilling column and re-use the acetone. Like an oil refinery. I dont know what you would do with the plastic insulation (or who knows what else?) fraction you would recover from re-distilling. Maybe someone would buy it or it is cheap to dispose of in some way.

So the raw material was copper wire and you are suggesting going straights to shaker table after a hammer mill? So if that was the tailings, what was the rest of the recovery numbers? Great demonstration.

I think you could fine tune your shakers by adding mass drivers and testing different ultrasonic frequencies.
@parnelltk2
@parnelltk2 2 жыл бұрын
Is it the different densities of the materials that make this work? Are we basically just gathering materials with similar density into different collection bins? What frequency/speed are you operating for the table? What is the source for the material that you are running through the shaker table?

Labor costs, water, electricity, getting rid of the waste in a landfill, the cost of the machine, and maintenance, is it profitable to recycle copper?
@urbanprospector3007
@urbanprospector3007 2 жыл бұрын
Well...run the numbers. .25 per ounce, 16 ounces in a pound = roughly $4 a pound. Table pulls say 25 pounds of copper per hour, estimated. Runs for 6 hours a day. Set is run by small generator on $10 of diesel per day. Water is recycled and used over and over. Plastic waste is dried and sold to plastic recycler for say .05 per pound, and given a 2nd life. Little to no waste.
@urbanprospector3007
@urbanprospector3007 2 жыл бұрын
Starting with 1000 pounds of scrap wire granulars, getting a 15%, way low, recovery rate, 150 pounds of copper, at roughly $4 a pound comes to $600 per day, 6 hour run time, with very little waste. Plastic pays for the fuel used. 50% production cost, so $300 roughly per day... nope, not worth it as you'd have to work 30 hours per week and only make $1500 profit. Your better off collecting aluminum cans and making $60 extra a month. Gotta think outside the box and see the bigger picture.
@KingMidas1983
@KingMidas1983 3 жыл бұрын
Would this work for aluminum as well? At my shop we throw out 100 lbs+ a day of aluminum shavings that are contaminated with polyurethane shavings because no recycler will take it. Curious about the "static separator" you mentioned

Put it in a big container of water and stir if around. The aluminium will sink while the plastic floats.
