I feel like if the feelers are dragging, the rider is not hanging off the side of the bike enough. "One cheek off, helmet next to the mirror" is the guidance I learned many years ago in my first track days, seems to be about right for most sport bikes. I'm not familiar with how long the feelers are on these Suzukis though, if they're kind of ridiculous length I could see dragging them all over the place. lol

This somewhat can be considered a new definition of "sport tourers". A general similarity of such bikes like Multistrada 1200/1260S, BMW XR, KTM 890 SMT,... and this GX is they provide better comfort while you can ride fast. Also I agree with you, from listening to this video, the quickshifter is a little bit on the slower side that it sounds somewhat slower than a smooth clutchless upshift. And the electro-aids problem you mentioned is the first time ever I have heard from a Japanese bike.
@Schaaf
@Schaaf 3 ай бұрын
Yup! Same here, it was my first ever time experiencing electronic issues like that on a Japanese bike. It was pretty surprising and also kind of frustrating because that straight where it took away the power was one of the most satisfying of that road ;)

@@Schaaf It's not an electronics problem, but it's a Suzuki system that when it evaluates the instability of the bike at high speed, it takes away power similar to traction control. The side cases are causing the instability.

@@tempofugo168 Suzuki used the K5 as the basis for this engine because the bore/stroke gives a broader torque distribution. It is also canted forward, and this enables the chassis to be designed for modern handling geometry. The internals are all new. These are the same reasons BMW used the K5 as their design starting point.

As an owner of an original (frame new) GSXR1000K5, every one of the “k5 based” Suzukis I have ridden has been a disappointment. You can’t lop 30hp off of a K5 and still trade on the legend…. People who knew what those bike were/are like are going to miss that kind of power. This bike with the current VVT engine would have me running down to the dealer, this one….? Meh. 2:43 is the correct behavior by an IMU-equipped bike; pulling the bike further into the lean while at the same time having the throttle nearly full is the most common way of low-siding a motorcycle. A non-IMU bike equipped with traction control would cut power after the slide (ie the flashing amber light in your previous videos) but can do it so fast that you wouldn't even detect the slide. You can confirm this behavior by riding through a kink in the road. If you keep the throttle open and gently bend the bike through the turn then power is minimally cut. Or if you keep the throttle open and heave the bike through the kink then the power is cut dramatically. Finally, consider using considerably higher RPM's (which you were doing) in these kink areas as the TC can react far quicker and more precisely as it has more RPM's to cut the engine power or not. You can have a low-powered torque engine or a high-powered revy engine but you can't safely have both.
@Schaaf
@Schaaf 3 ай бұрын
that's interesting to read and since I don't understand anything about these systems I can't say anything against it. Although I kind of doubt it's normal for the system to cut off power for almost two seconds?

I ride similar to you Schaaf (Italy, Alps), I own a Versys. Unfortunately those bikes don't have a proper rider position to really "inspire" you to go fast. I saw myself in this video: yes you can go fast...but you're not screaming inside. You'd scream with a 1000RR even if the power would be the same, the body position would do all the rest. I'd sell my versys any day, but can't as I always travel as a couple, so I'm stuck in this "comfortably boring" situation. Always ridden Ninjas before, NO COMPARISON

Many thanks for your input and review. I had a GSX R750 and after a couple of hours the vibrations would make my hands numb. It was like a metallic vibration. Could you expand on your comment about the engine vibration? Thanks

I have the s750, and no issues with disturbing vibes. These are tuned for lower revs but more responsive down low. Maybe my experience helps.

Not really, the IMU just means that the assistance systems can work more precisely but it doesn't affect general stability

Hello Schaaf, quick question please. I just rode 800 km on this bike. What do you think of the 190/50 dimension compared to the 190/55. I find it easier to angle with the 55. I had to work a lot to get to the edge of the tire with the 50. I don't know what you rode with there? thanks and greetings

Curious how was the pillion comfort? I’ve got the XR now and have the naked 16’ GSXS the motor is just better all around to me. Yeah up top the XR has a bit more but motor is noisy and out of warranty I want the Suzuki all day

Regarding the high frequency vibration does it start at specific rpm or it increases as the rpm increases. I have knee injury so at cruising vibration for long time is a problem for me.

How would you say it fares against the GSXS GT. Does the added height take away too much of stability? Would you say the GX and GT are redundant?

I can't make a verdict without riding both head-to-head. All I know is that the suspension on the GX is superior

Schaff how would you compare this bike to the Kawasaki Versys 1000 s a bike that you have had previous experience with. I’m curious to hear what you think as I’m a Versys S owner and this bike has caught my attention as a possible replacement.

Hello, I can give you an overview because I have done 76,000 km on the Versys se 2020. The Versys is incredibly agile, but at low speeds the GX is better. The Versys is very stable in curves, even at high speed; it has a better brake. For a long trip as a duo, I would definitely keep the Versys. Torque is also better between 3000 and 5000. Then, after 1000 km on the Gx, I can say that it performs better. From 5500 revolutions, there is no photo. Much less inertia too. The pins sometimes remain a little...heavy (190/50 vs 180/55). The chassis is incredible with a more forward position. The rear brake is better, the front lacks bite (pads need to be changed). I have wonderful memories of the Versys. I would say the Versys: 14/20 and the Gx 16/20. Greetings

The main issue I have with this bike, is that I can´t get my legs on it. Maybe it was a seat height thing wich I was not aware of, but at 190cm my calves touch my hamstrings and I can´t move anymore. Tried it only in the showroom, so I can´t comment on the way it handles.

@anxiousappliance

I don't think the XR is the same price unless you are in a country with tarrifs. BMW advertises a price, but you need about 2 packages to get what you want, and the dealers don't stock the base models.
