If Mary Wilson had been able to leave her ego and bitterness at the stage door it would of been different. Cindy was and still is l understood in poor health .. Over the years Mary had become preoccupied with trying to bring down Diana Ross & the Supremes legacy but at the same time make a living from it . Her legal battles with Motown for using the Supreme’s name cost her dearly and served only to deepen her resentment and post Supremes career disappointments . In my opinion she sadly tarnished her own legacy by doing so .

@@joeclarke6973 This is funny. You talk about Mary having ego and bitterness? Diana Ross' childish ego could not handle Mary writing a book about her perspective as a Supreme and for years Diana's bitterness toward Mary meant that Diana dissed any public honor or recognition the Supremes ever received -- she wasn't there for their RRHOF induction in 1988, she wasn't there for their Hollywood star ceremony in 1994. God forbid she should have to be around Mary Wilson! You are living in some fantasy world to write that "Mary had become preoccupied with trying to bring down ... The Supremes legacy." It's only because of Mary Wilson and the other ladies Mary hired in the 1970s that the Supremes legacy continues today. Diana Ross is not out here representing the group that made her famous. Mary wrote books about their fabulous journey, about their unforgettable fashions. Mary is the one who ensured their designer gowns are on display for the public. Mary's legacy is secure. It's Diana who should be ashamed, now that she is the only original Supreme living, that she should continue to sh*t on the Supremes legacy by not showing up for their Grammy Lifetime Achievement award last year.

The host looks like Paul MCCartney. He has good taste for such a young person, What a great classy lady Miss Scherrie is. I loved Mary. She had a gorgeous voice. But I was bewildered as to why she would end the only chance to ever reunite The Supremes and talk Cindy out of it as well ,even after all those years of talking about how she wanted the reunion to happen. I understand Miss Ross also offered her an extra 4 million out of her own pocket. Not really sure also why Mary would have a problem with Miss Ross making much more money than her. What was such a big deal that MIss Ross said all of the business dealings would be taken care of, which is what the lame reason Mary gave for why she pulled out of the tour? It was a strange time for Mary to become so obstinant. The "reunion" show was great! Even Miss Ross solo stuff was better than usual. She did Reach out I'll Be There. Too bad they had to pull the plug on it for financial reasons. No one was coming. Oh well, at least we got to hear MIss Ross sing A Breath takkng guy and maybe even Forever Came Today even if she needed cue cards to sing them. They were only 60 years old. Still comparatively young, but still obviously the last ever chance for a reunion. Too bad Mary ended up letting us Supremes fans down.
@Tes7000Ай бұрын
I agree with what you are saying here, but Mary didn't really talk Cindy out of the tour. Cindy very foolishly decided to let Mary handle negotiations for the both of them as a team. If anybody knew the toxic drama between Diana and Mary, it was Cindy. Cindy should have known to negotiate for herself. My understanding is that she was extremely disappointed when negotiations fell through, and I totally understand why. At that point in her life, the money from that tour could have been life-changing.
@dougronald5615 күн бұрын
That's right what Scherrie said. All of the Supremes, especially Mary, Cindy, and Jean, should have joined the tour in 2000. It's too bad that couldn't put aside their differences for the sake of their art.

Such a shame...because that photo shoot would have really made history! When asked who Diana would like to sing with as far as former members, Scherrie was the first person she wanted. It would have been great to have all of them as part of the show. Love the Former Ladies of The Supremes!
@TheReturnOfStephan12 ай бұрын
Diana Ross did, indeed, want ALL living former Supremes to join the tour, but, Terrell and Greene refused to audition for the tour promoters, who hadn't heard their voices in decades. Wilson screwed herself and Birdsong(as Wilson convinced Birdsong to let Wilson negotiate for her)out of a GUARANTEED million-dollar offer.
@Bananadiva12 ай бұрын
The reason the tour was a failure is because that self obsessed no talent tramp Ross couldn't bear the thought of ever giving the other Supremes equal billing and the deserved respect.

Mary was just goofy. She was a whole original Supreme but always stayed mixed up. I remember seeing Mary all over TV talking about a Supremes reunion but when you look back you realize she never had a dam contract! How are you speaking to the press about a deal you don't have? Also, idiotic decisions like selling her life story to DreamGirls for no money. I see why Tony Turner said the things he said...Mary never knew how to get to the bag. She was controlled by her emotions.

@jasonwonder6803 Yep, but, it gets worse. Read Tim Adrahtas' "A Lifetime To Get Here;Diana Ross:THE Original Dreamgirl", for the full account, starting on page 289, if memory serves. Diana never wanted Terrell to sing backup for her. She wanted Terrell to sing lead on the hits on which she had originally sang lead. The tour was supposed to be a celebration of the group's entire run. Diana had her own backing singers.
@Tes7000Ай бұрын
I don't think Diana Ross wanted Jean Terrell to sing background, but I think Jean thought that was what Diana wanted. Maybe it was a miscommunication from the promoters. I also read that the promoters wanted Jean to audition, which was a ridiculous request. Even so, I think Jeanette should have done whatever she could have to get on the tour. The fans would have loved it, and Jean wasn't doing anything else that summer to earn a million dollars.

So glad to hear Scherrie setting the record straight! So we now know for sure Diana wanted every one of the Supremes to come out. Scherrie says it herself. As for Mary she was just so misguided. She could never get over Diane becoming Diana Ross. Smh. What a missed opportunity in life.
@lecuyerdooley10842 ай бұрын
Scherrie mentions all of the 70s Supremes, that's who she had encouraged the promoter to include on the tour. She specifically mentioned Jean, Lynda, and Susaye. Mary was not misguided. She was offended. The idea for a Supremes anything was not Diana's; it was a promoter's. And for several months, a promoter was the one negotiating with Mary Wilson. She felt, rightly so, that if a Supremes reunion was to happen, then the two original Supremes should have been doing the planning and negotiating, not a promoter. The missed opportunity was Diana's. She's the one who felt that all Mary Wilson needed to do "was show up." Mary Wilson had much more seniority as a Supreme than Diana, who left in 1970. Mary hired the very women Diana chose to be a part of the RTL tour. Yet, Diana said all this Supreme Supreme needed to do was "show up." Mary could have staged that show all by herself given how many years she had performed a Supremes show. She taught Lynda and Scherrie whatever they know about being Supremes. And they wanted her to "show up", like a microphone stand or a riser on the stage, just another prop.

Her damn ego continue on with Scherrie and Lynda who many didn’t know who the hell they were just us true Supremes fans. Mary gave a top notch performance at BBKing’s club in NY that summer 2000. I took my mom and aunt to see Mary in action. My mom whispered to me, NO WONDER DIANA DIDNT WANT HER ON THAT TOUR, SHE IS GOOD! Mary also stopped the hexlers who was yelling out DIANA WHO? Mary said, stop that…there was THREE SUPREMES. Diana refuses to acknowledge the group she became famous with never showing up to the awards shows that recognizes the group’s achievements.
