I love how weirded out the foreigners get hearing the Polish "lektor" (it's NOT a dubbing, we have great voice actors here) as if it was alien concept but in the Anglo-sphere, when on the news or in documentaries someone is speaking a foreign language they get EXACTLY the same voiceover style but in English. We just use it for movies (mostly older ones) esspecially if they run on TV. In cinema you either get subs or dubbing but mostly subs.

stare dubbingi są dobrze zrobione, teraz zatrudniają 10 tych samych aktorów głosowych, którzy robią słabą robotę. Dlatego preferuję oglądanie z lektorem, a najlepiej to z napisami.

It's so annoying that the Polish lektor is mixed in with an actual dub, they are not the same thing! Actual dubs are often very good, especially for cartoons and such. Lektor is an old cheap alternative, because you literally have just one person and you don't need to adapt the script to fit the flaps. And for that reason it's very often used for TV shows.

The thing with the separate hot and cold taps is to do with building codes, at least in Britain. Back in the day, boilers weren't powerful enough to heat water on demand, so most home water systems pre-heated water and then stored it in a big tank in the attic which would then be used to supply water for showers etc. Cold water, meanwhile, came directly from the mains supply in the street. The problem was that those hot water tanks were not necessarily sealed, and some designs allowed, for example, animals to get inside and then drown, or for the water to otherwise get contaminated. Hot water, therefore, was not considered potable water just in case, and as a consequence had to be physically isolated from the cold water supply to ensure that in the event of a valve failure the non-potable hot water couldn't flow back down the cold water pipes and potentially contaminate the potable water in the mains. This meant no mixer taps, because there was a theoretical possibility of hot water going where it shouldn't in the event of a mechanical failure. This is the same reason most British people over the age of 30 or so will run the cold tap for a bit before filling up a glass or a kettle or whatever; we were taught to run the cold water as children to make sure we weren't drinking 'dirty' hot water. Modern high efficiency boilers that can heat water on demand have basically eliminated the need for separate hot water storage tanks, so in most places having separate taps is now a style thing and you can have mixer taps if you want, but if you're unfortunate enough to still be running such a system I believe you're still required to have separate hot and cold taps.
