An extraordinary day at Carlisle with four charter trains calling - two of them steam hauled.
We meet Leander, the magnificent Duchess of Sutherland, Les Ross/Peter Pan, D1755/47 773, 66 021, 67 005, 67 006 and various others encountered in passing.
The event attracted large crowds with an exceptional number of youngsters, all vying to cab the locomotives and many of them being allowed to play loudly with the two-tones of one of the 67s.
It was a cold, wet and windy morning but the weather improved somewhat as the day went on.

An epic day - wasn't it just! Eight hours on the platform and, according to the pedometer on my phone, I walked three miles on the station. Approximately ten hours of editing - I hope it's all worth it in the end. Won't be another day quite like that for some time to come - although - next Saturday's steam special is putting in two appearances at Carlisle but twelve hours apart. How to fill in the gap? Thinking cap on - - -

A feast of trains today, and all very enjoyable. Thanks again for your time and efforts and I admire your stamina in completing all that filming and video editing as I am sure you filmed lots more than what the final posting shows. ( loved the Coronation class of locomotives) John K.

I recorded over 23 Gigabytes of film and, according to the Pedometer on my phone, walked three miles on the platforms during the course of the day. I suppose I must enjoy it! Thanks John - and best wishes to you.

Excellent record of the day at Carlisle. So many comments and observations as to what you saw that there's no room here. I tried to do too much and the foul weather around Shap in the morning didn't help. Frustrated that the Duchess ran late through Lazonby northbound and then late again heading south. C'est la vie!

Having grown up in the North-East I was totally unfamiliar with Stanier's locos until going to college in Manchester in 1964, by which time steam was in its closing days. If memory serves me correctly, all the Jubilees were black, though usually so filthy that it was sometimes difficult to tell - lined black, just as Leander is at present. Wartime black (not that I remember it!) was plain unlined black

What a good day That train to Kings Cross sped through Keighley when I was waiting for my train home from the steam gala. I would of liked to of seen the trains in Carlisle but had to choose between the gala and there. Glad you captured it all and made another well edited video

Always difficult when you have to choose between two special events - I imagine the Worth Valley must have been every bit as crowded as Carlisle. Best wishes.

@@schoolshorts It was very busy. I think everyone wants to get away from all the bad news and made the most of a chance to get out. All the better for the Worth Valley who like many other attractions need the income. We were told on the shed tour they were very close to having to sell off a loco

I was setting up my tripod on the station footbridge shortly before the Duchess arrived when I was accosted by a lady demanding to know what was going on - she had just travelled up on the train from Leeds and "all along the route there were HUNDREDS of people with cameras!"

That was quite a day, Tim. Carlisle is a real mecca for things out of the ordinary. It looks lie it is normal to have multiple daily operations of these charter trains. Love watching the perspectives that you capture on film. I can almost smell the steam. The Coronation Class locos with the smoke deflectors are so aesthetically pleasing to look at. They just look right. As a kid, I was so fortunate to see them steaming through West Allerton station in the southern Liverpool suburbs on their way from Lime Street to Euston. Most were in the green livery, but some were in that wonderful maroon livery. Ah, memories!!!!

Memories indeed, Ian. What am I talking about? - I grew up in Darlington and never ever saw a Coronation in service. But I agree with you - they're magnificent to look at and, I believe, hold the record for the highest power output of any steam locomotive in Britain. Best wishes to you.

Great captures of a great and busy day Tim. You caught me at 11:45, and I spoke to you briefly on the bridge just before the Duchess arrived. I went on the platform below you, but thought I was going to get bowled by the pendo. Lucky in the end though. Good to put a name to a face. ( just subbed too)

I see DB in front of the Locomotive at 2.00 minutes, coloured red/yellow. I was a little confused as surely DB stands for Deutsche Bahn or German Railways???? Otherwise I extremely enjoyed your video. It brings back memories. I travelled many times from Limerick city, Ireland to Lahinch,Co Clare via Ennis using The Old West Clare Steam Engines/Locomotives. I too well remember the upgrade to the diesel train. Unfortunately the whole line closed in the early 1960's due to more cars on the road. A old trip of a few hours duration could be undertaken in less than one hour and a half. Out with the old, in with the new! In the long run that line would have made a superb tourist attraction had the decision makers of that time been more forward looking.

As I always think, class 66 locomotive at 2:00 looks like a warehouse is running. Am I the only one who looks that way? And at 7:30, we can hear the voice of a kitten or a puppy, so it's a wonderful video! (=いつも思うのだが、2:00の66型機関車は倉庫が走ってくるように見える。そう見えるのは私だけか? それから7:30に子猫か子犬の声が聞こえるから素晴らしいビデオだ!) (Gonzaburoubei)

Thank you for your interesting comments. (It's a seagull at 7.30 - we're very close to the sea at Carlisle and the gulls get everywhere - they're a real nuisance and can occasionally be quite aggressive.) Best wishes to you.

@@schoolshorts Thank you for your polite reply. Oh seagulls! Seagulls are also in Japan! I was also robbed of the burger. Some people said that putting animals in the video would increase the number of views. (It may be a picture of an animal.) I'm interested in diesel locomotives and diesel cars, so I'll watch UK’s videos a lot. There are so many interesting vehicles that it's fun. There are also unusual vehicles in Japan. In the area of Sapporo, the northernmost center of Hokkaido in Japan, there are also vehicles that can be controlled from one place by connecting electric cars (Series 731) and diesel cars (Series 201). This diesel car is a vehicle with a hydraulic transmission. Please continue to upload some great videos. I'm hoping and cheering to you.
