Preparedmind101 gives a breakdown on my thoughts on the Schrade SCAXE2L. I've had this in my possession longer than any other item I've had before reviewing it. I've done everything I could come up with to make it fail, and have not been able to.It's a solid affordable tool that can do more than just "chop".

Mate I love this axe, as you know I am also not a big battoning with knives fan, although I do think you should, to a point, but I always carry an axe for overnight/multi-night stays,I would love one of these but being in Australia the price almost doubles with postage, if you find a way to get these or anything else to Australia please let us know.....btw I have given you a hard time on other films, it's not personal mate. Please don't take anything I say to heart you are doing a great service to many showing off new stuff. I'm just a crusty old bloke sometimes. Cheers and thanks for sharing, and please never stop doing what you do.

Great review! Thank you for taking the time to make it. These days, before I buy anything, I research online and see what people are saying before I spend my hard earned money and it's guys like you that make that possible. Schrade sold me on their customer interaction and satisfaction long ago, but their reasonable prices makes it a whole lot easier for a guy like me to stand behind them.

Absolutely love the prove it in a video response. Exactly the reason people love you and absolutely trust you. I have stopped subscription to others because I found out they wouldn't review the product if it sucked they would just return it so they don't have to do a negative review and risk losing free stuff. Sell outs! I know you will never have that issue.

Well I don't like doing that either. For one, it's a waste of time and money. There are more crap products than good ones out there. But I WILL do stuff some people SAY is crap to prove otherwise. The other reason is when you do videos knowing you are going to end up bashing it the people that like it still or have already bought it take it personally and your trolling goes through the roof. Best way to know if I think a (commonly affordable) brand is crap is you don't see it. I also won't review something I'm already biased about. I've gotten a couple things from Cold Steel. They didn't ask what I wanted to review and one of the knives was a Leatherneck. It might be fine for its intended purpose as a fighting knife, but I'm not testing knives that way. I dont believe the 4116 Krupp steel is right for Bushcraft. Therefore it would have been an unfair review so I sent it back. Same thing with the Condor TRT tomahawk. That's made for chopping/ripping car doors. Not for woods at all so that too would have been a skewed video. However on that note, they redesigned the grind to make it more universally useful, and I'm going to review that version.

Hey great review here. I am from Ireland and schrade is a less known brand over this side of the ocean. But ever since I got my first schrade folder I converted from gerber which has big standing here. Really enjoyed your honesty here after all it is the best policy eh. My only regret is schrade is not available widely in Ireland. Have to agree with everything you say they offer great value for money and an excellent customer service. The axe well its a great piece craftmanship. Great channel. Regards Nigel.

Agree with you on the Schrade product line quality for the price. Had a dozen Schrade knives over the years and have to say that I bought them on a whim expecting to field test them prepared for the disappointment associated with buying cheaper knives but.. I still have half of them in use today with nothing but pleasant memories. Now Ima get me a couple of these because they look awesome.

I have had schrade knives before and they really lasted and I just ordered a knife from their company store and will buy an axe from them next month. I have a folding knife which was issued to me while in the Air Force and still have it in the same condition it was issued to me in new. I have several survival knives also and love each of them, but don't abuse them.

Hey Prepared Mind, 1st. You always have great vids man! I like your 101 mode of thinking, trying to save us money thanks. As to Schrade, they have been known in the knife market for many years as a "every man's knife" meaning that they make inexpensive knifes that are decent in quality and materials for the people who can't afford other makers. They have been frowned upon by many knife collectors over the years. Their steels tend to be softer and their handles tend to be some form of plastic. I do own Schrade knives and I find that for the most part I can use them hard and be satisfied with their quality, And if they break I don't have a huge investment in them.

Thanks Chris for Your good reviews. I've bought Schrade products , and I like every one. Schrade may not be the very best knives , and stuff, but they are very well built using excellent materials, and they are worth two or more times what they charge. I see them as the best deal in knives that I've found. They may not be as fancy, but they work better than those knives costings over three times more built out of the same 1095.

My first knife was a schrade folder. I had that thing for years...until I really ABUSED it, then it broke the tip off and I tossed it. Same goes for the BG Gerber. They had issues at first, but they seem pretty good for what they cost. I even use knives that are 420 ss, as long as they have a really thick blade, I have nothing but success! Just made my own knife, excited to see how it holds up!

I'm not allowed to say why, because it's done sort of trade secret stuff, but rest assured they are on top of what happens in their overseas plants. That's why their stuff doesn't break like most dept store stuff does. I wouldn't worry until I see Schrade in Walmart.

Im not surprised that 3cr is holding up ok on an axe or a chopper. Reason being is wood has very low wear abrasion so even a steel like 3cr, that has very low wear resistance and why it sucks on folders, still does good on wood. What you need for wood chopping is toughness, thats why 10xx series of steels make good choppers and bushcraft knives is because they have high toughness and 3cr even though not as tough as carbon steels, still has enough toughness to chop wood especially at 52 to 56 hrc at which its ran by shrade.

Earlier I watched two videos on axes (Not "Fail" videos), one a Hults/Bruk, one a Gransfors/Bruk, and both had hickory handles that broke with one overstrike. They are expensive axes but were useless after a few minutes work. I will stick with synthetic or full steel handles/shafts. As for anti-batoning people, if the people in those videos had not had a knife they could baton with, they would have had no fire (it was very wet in both videos). It happens.

I'm a 52 year old disabled veteran female, and I love this axe! It works awesome and is lightweight. You won't get so tired swinging or carrying this axe. I even had my mom used it and she's 73 years old. She is much weaker than I am, with little hand and arm strength, and she liked it a lot. (I've always been a lot stronger than my mom.) I don't think you would regret getting this axe. Extremely easy to sharpen with the stone it came with.
