I will actually defend PTSD. (Though all the other intermediary names were definitely dumb) PTSD allows the condition to be broader, to help classify things all nice the way our brains like them. Actually getting shell shock would be incredible rare now that we aren't flinging mortars at each other with unprotected ears. While not quite as punchy as shell shock, PTSD has 3 hard consonant sounds that flow well. Lastly, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is far more informative a name than shell shock. A disorder characterized by stress stemming from a past trauma; perfect title. Shell shock could just mean I electrocuted my peanuts.
