Many plants spread their seeds in other ways. Keep in mind that the fruit of a plant is there to provide extra nutrients for the seed. It just happened that some tasted good to animals, so plants evolved around that and made seeds that could survive digestion.

It's the seeds of apricots, peaches and apples that contain cyanide, not the fruit, but that doesn't mean that some fruits aren't poisonous. It just depends on the strategy the plant uses to ensure seed dispersal. A plant that depends on animals to eat the fruit and disburse the seeds in a birds guano (AKA chalk, poop etc.) wouldn't be likely to have toxic fruit for example. There is a lot of variety out there, kind of fascinating, don't you think?
