Back saving tip - prop the log up for gravity assisted (i.e. downhill) sawing 👍 Congrats on 10 years! 🎉

For what it's worth, even you're cutting slabs, try taping a wedge into the cut behind you so as to maintain clearance and eliminate binding. Congrats on 10 years!

I can see you are getting the bug in more ways than one. It is addicting sawing logs to see what is inside. That is the thing about Texas, logs can not lay as long as they do up north.

Hi Andy, congrats on 10 years ... and ten fingers! I really the enjoy the wood harvesting content. I'm thinking of investing in the chainsaw mill like yours. It looks like you got some nice pecan out of the pile. There's lots of pickings around the Austin area, especially after the ice storm last winter. Great stuff! Take care.

Thanks! The chainsaw mill is nice to have but it’s a lot of work.

Andy, Hugh congrats upon the ten years of being a woodworker who also still has your original 👋🤚 that alone is one heck of an achievement plus the fact that you still love your work is an awesome achievement within it's self. As for the bug you put with your chickens I couldn't believe the white chicken actually tried to swallow that thing whole, forget the sharing, then it looks like it brings it back up and spits it out 😅 at which point I thought it was going to attack the chicken and try eat it😢. As always guy's 💯% 👍 🇬🇧.

I've thought about getting into milling, but hardly anyone shows what hard work it is and like you said, not everything's a win. I've got my tickets to the Texas Woodworking Festival and looking forward to seeing you guys there. - Chris

The hardest thing about being in business is STAYING in business. The combined efforts of Google and Covid put the final touches on my business and we closed down at the end of 2022 after 50 years.

Wishing you next many 10s of years to come, with all 10 fngrs still in place :) . That rotten wood might be a nice start for an epoxy pour river-like tabletop. just a thought.

Congratulations on 10 years, just wondering if you were using a ripping chain to cut those slabs? If not you should get one makes cutting much easier
@AndyRawls
@AndyRawls Жыл бұрын
I didn’t have the ripping chain on for these cuts, mostly bc I was being lazy and don’t feel like changing it out. Tipping chain helps a lot though especially on the harder woods

Conroe, Montgomery County checking in! Sadly after 45 years of working with wood, I don't qualify for your shirt design. I got 9 7/8 left to work with due to a inverted chicago electric hand planer clamped in a vice. Yes I will never do that again. The feeling still hasn't fully returned and it's been two years. You know how folks talk about everything was in slow motion as the board kicked out and I watched my finger get pinched between the blade and the body of the planer, I could swear it went even slower while watching the tip of my left index finger disappear, just missed the bone , how, I have no idea. Felt like I smashed it with a hammer. Grabbed some peroxide and soaked it for a bit then wrapped it up with some antibiotic ointment. Wasn't much reason to go to hospital, there wasn't anything to sew back, the tip was gone, no meat, no skin, amputated to the bone.

I researched amputations and found a special Intra-veinous bandage that keeps airtight and allows the capture of fluids that aid in healing, this Doctor had just released his report on using this special bandage a couple weeks before. I ordered some and they were like $7 each. The thing was to keep it covered for at least 2 - 3 weeks before fist bandage change. After a couple months the skin grew back, the meaty filler didnt. Dammedest thing is, that's not even the worst thing to ever happen to me, I got stories from hell brother. Been told I should write a book, wouldn't no one believe it so why bother. Hell maybe one day I will tell you about being shot in the head and the neck, 20 years apart. Maybe a few morsels from time to time just for shits and grins.

Interesting, Andy. Are you going to let it air dry or are you taking it to a kiln for processing? Bill
@AndyRawls
@AndyRawls Жыл бұрын
I’ll just let these air dry. I’ll spray them down really good with BoraCare which will kill all the bugs.
@alexaltringer17

@AndyRawls

I let everything air dry, generally a year for inch of thickness. Then I’ll pay to have it kiln dried.
