Projects like these can be some of the most rewarding to revive, even if they aren't some massive undertaking. This old cement mixer was a bit long in the tooth, and some heavy handed "maintenance" put it out of commission... But rather than throw in the trowel, some trial and error repair methods were used to keep it going a bit longer.

The gears seemed to mesh just fine, cuz it was running quiet enough, so......Win !!!! Reminds me of a time I asked an old carpenter about some home repair projects I had, he said, "Do your best & caulk the rest!" 🤣🤣

Another great video! That braze job looks down right professional compared to my first few brazing jobs. I haven't welded or brazed in over 40 years but am now retired and want to tackle some repair jobs that require "fixin".

Another good video Vinny!! A concrete mixer doesnt need to be pretty. Beats mixing it up in a wheelbarrow like I have to do. A mixer in that condition would be over a hundred bucks where I live..

Yep. Need at least one or two flux to give when brazing thick stuff. Also nothing better than opening the third or sixth beer and finding you put up a new video. Take it easy man.

8:49 looked like Mike Tyson’s teeth 😂 Edit: I totally agree with your thoughts on trying to fix old equipment - too often, items are landfill when they might be repaired. That said, let’s see how your repair holds up after 12 bags of cement…

Lol, I am totally going to let the concrete build up in the corners again and create it's own reinforcement. Would be something to know how many bags of cement have been put through this thing in its life?

9:45 People have strange ideas about what is worth repairing and what is not worth repairing. To me, the only things not worth repairing are things which I can buy a replacement 2nd hand for less money than it would cost to repair it in materials assuming I can do it within any reasonable time-frame (and an evening to do this I would find acceptable) To me, the real issue is trying to fix stuff to sell as used for a profit. This greatly changes the math. You have to buy it, fix it and still sell it at a high enough profit to make the time worthwhile. This is pretty difficult to do with anything at the consumer level (which granted, this is not something home depot would be selling to home-gamers). Everything is made so cheaply and with such low profit margins that it is near impossible to this with most consumer goods.

Solid points, profit margin repairing this type of stuff can slim to none.

The center part could have had more oil and grease soaked into it, the cleanup might not have been enough, maybe it needed more fire

You don't really know its fixed until you have a couple hundred pounds of concrete bashing around inside. I tend to go with Epoxy to fix everything, every cast iron welding I've done has failed. In fact, I have a similiar cement mixer, and someone tried welding on a bearing support and it just broke right off.

This is the perfect case for fixing. You got it for free, so worst case scenario is you have to drive it back to the dump. best case scenario is you get a free cement mixer minus some time a few bucks in materials, plus. as you said, get a new skill.

If nothing else it taught you to quit f***king with things that work ! To fix means it’s not running or not working properly ! My brother in law purchased a Roto tiller ( working fine ) and just for giggles tore the engine apart but couldn’t get it back together now that’s an example of needing to be fixed ! Lmao. The tiller and his sorry ass ! I charged him $100 to FIX it ! Lol
