Yknow whats sick, scorpion was actually kinda good in the tag mode. You could tag cancel his overhead to make it safe. His low was generally better too thanks to the tag mechanics.

That was peak MK. It really felt unique and it looked so beautiful.

This game aged so well. Both the artstyle and animations. If NRS would reamster with improved character balance and training mode this would be more popular than MK1.

I love how his teleports were more about commitment than a “why not” move. He had to commit to one or the other.

i'm still amazed that i don't even remember doing all the artwork for this game in the 4th grade with colored pencils. you'd think you'd remember something like that.

We've been playing locally MK9 through out the years. During these years I did spent good amount of time playing around with Scorpion. My intention was to rework his game play and tone down the flip coin game, and stop using B2 as raw poke up-close. The approach I took was to play defensively and build my game upon the "Hell Fire" from safe distance, and force the opponent to commit o a jump. Once that happen I could dash in and depends on the range either use S3,D1 at close range or use B2 witch had much longer reach into double tele combo. Another tool that made a difference was instant tele, that led to cancel animation and Scorpion would land behind the opponent allowing for fast attack. Regular or ex teleport is interruptible with low poke into a full combo punish before the second hit comes out. In neutral two moves could be used as whiff punisher. First is B2 - long reach but had to be well spaced. Second 2,2+1, it would allow for full conversion with double tele combo. It did change the outcome, and playing Scorpion was way more fun, but it did not raised him above his placement.

i think all MK youtubers should join together and start posting back to back videos of MK9 to send a message to NRS #makeMKgreatagain

I’ve gotten into arguments with people saying mk9 scorp was good when in reality he isn’t, the only scorp I would argue is decent is mkx scorp every single other scorp is pretty bottom low tier

Scorpion was definitely terrible in MK9. Scorpion players were more afraid of his vortex than the opponent was 😂. We had players like Slips rep him in tournament and made him look godlike. However, that was player skill IMO.

He's not low tier. He's mid, just like Reptile and Raiden. There are really, really strong Scorpion players even now. The 50/50 he doesn't even need to do, just end with 1/ 1,1+cancels, or throw, or continue with 1+takedown. It's safe and most people won't expect it. That's 3 possibilities opponent needs to account for, all in a span of ~15 frames, which is basically unreactable. Or if you're really ballsy and know opponent is blocking, throw in unblockable hellfire... His AA damage is bonkers and he can do 62% or so combos in the corner, something actual low tiers don't have.

Ex tele can be punished by ducking the first hit then pressing before the 2nd hit, used to love doing that😂

Even his ex tele was unsafe you just can duck a second hit and punish him. Most funny thing in the demo he was decent, he can cancel strings into hellfire and he's dmg output was better something like 50 no bar, cuz he can do multiple JK into tele in one kombo. And ex spear was a mid, but i don't remember is safe or not.

He must have been borderline unplayable before his low takedown was patched to be safe. How did he escape plus block pressure when his pokes left him minus regardless? Could he only armor out of highs that left the opponent plus?

This is literally the only mortal kombat i never played, i was 2 young to buy it myself but too old for my parets to wanna buy it for me since the 360 was breaking my games.

Scorpion in MKX is the only time really he is really Top tier in MK game in the NRS era. 11 he was mid at best, MK1 he is pretty trash. Hanzo/Kuai Liang deserve better.

Nah. As Shirai Ryu, this version of Scorpion was amazing. I get that he's low tier but I never had so much fun with any other version of him, gamble or not. Safe slide, mix, fun and creative combos and setups, I really had fun messing with ppl with F4 and B2 vortex, used to run mirrors with Slips too. Better times imo, MKX was fun, MK11 is aight, 1 Scorp is eh.
