I'm from Brazil and i've been to some beautiful natural places. Iguaçu falls, parks, beaches, canyons. I've been to south africa and switzerland. But i never felt like i felt in scotland when I was there last month. I drove from Skye to Fort william through the west highlands. So much beauty! So much! i had to park because I was crying overwhelmed in the beauty of landscapes.

I've had the privilege to travel all over the world and when I come back home to Bonnie Scotland, the Highlands still takes my breathe away. This is my second time in Scotland, I've been here 14 years. I say it's my second time because the second time I visited where I live now I never went home. I'm from the NW of England originally, a small, dense, flat, over populated crime ridden hell hole. Basically the complete opposite of where I live now. I live roughly 2 hours away from where you filmed this video in a small village surrounded my mountains and lochs and nothing but openness, yet I work in a city 30 mins drive away. I have that option to live away from where I work and it's perfect. Like you I have Scottish roots way way back though, but I always feel like I should have been born Scottish. I am more proud to be in Scotland and this amazing country than I am to be from England. I will never live in England ever again. Scotland has everything I need and more. This is the first video of yours I've seen and I've actually paused it 4 minutes in to write this but what I will say is Scotland has much more to offer if you have the time to explore. As beautiful as Glen Coe is, there are places in Scotland that will leave you utterly speechless. Enjoy it, come back, explore. Everyone is welcome.

Absolutely spot on. What I have noticed and I’m not being disrespectful to the majority. The further south you go the more arrogant people become. They’re rude, not a greeting or anything. Scottish people are way more welcoming. They greet people every day. A story of when it was just my hubby and I.we went camping in Ayre once. It was a small commercial place. Where the old railway lines used to run. We pitched up opposite an elderly man who was local. We drove him up the the bar on site. Had a friendly chat with him. He was so grateful for our hospitality. He said that it tradition in Scotland to return a favour. The next morning he asked us for a coffee at his tent. They are so kind and considerate. What lovely people.

I took my four years old grandson. We were walking in the Highlands and as we turned a corner to a new, unexpected view, he gasped and tears just flowed. It reminded me of train journeys when at a certain point, everyone would go silent, look out of the windows which opened then, and again, even grown men had tears in their eyes.

I now mainly stay in the Cairngorms (Nethy Bridge) with my two dogs (Edwin and April) - the drive from my home in Manchester is worth it! The remoteness is addictive, almost spiritual. If everyone can be Scottish then no one is Scottish, as being Scottish would be meaningless. For example, and it ties into what I was saying previously , if everyone got a gold medal for participation, even if they came 8th, 9th, 10th or so on, then the symbol of that gold medal becomes meaningless. It is the rarity and exclusivity of a said concept, or in this case national identity, that makes it precious, sacred and highly cherished. Yes, non-natives can become Scottish after many generations of their descendants having, through the accumulation of their actions and deeds, pledged themselves to the Scottish nation in body and soul - shedding blood, sweat and tears in maintaining our nations greatness and defending it, and showing themselves as the upmost allies. The sacred idea of nation is different from the modern and fleeting concept of country; which is a ridiculous concept and word, in my opinion. Nation comes from a Latin word ‘Natio’ meaning tribe, kin or family. Sam Francis gives a succinct definition of nation - ‘Every real nation is a people of a common blood and descended from the same ancestors. A nation - from the Latin word meaning to be born - can have no other meaning’. Therefore, this facile argument of ‘They have a British/Scottish passport so therefore...’ or ‘they were born here so therefore...’ falls out of the classical and, may I add, most rational definition of nation or nationhood. Therefore, healthy exclusivity is what gives a nation and its people it’s meaning, it’s purpose and it’s pride. However, do not conflate healthy exclusivity - maintaining one’s nation’s sovereignty, defending one’s nation’s borders, having a strict line on who and who can not be a part of one’s nation, defending one’s nation’s financial and economic well-being through outcompeting other nations, etc. - with Racism or xenophobia, as these are a distinct concept encapsulated as a pathological hatred of everyone that is not you. For example, because you close your door at night, or maintain your privacy when entering your pin, or have an unyielding view of who has been designated membership in your family group and who has not, doesn’t make you a hater, a racist or a xenophobe; it just makes you a healthy, rationale human being. Thus, maintaining the exclusivity of one’s nation does not equate to ‘hatred’ as many contemporary political radicals and charlatans would lead you to believe. I hope this expands your understanding of nationhood and national identity. Have a great day, and good fortune and health to you all.

@@fentonfairway5793 I think your heart tells where you belong. if you have an emotional connection to something or a country that can not really be explained. Your heart beats madly if you just think about it and the feeling of warmth spreads out at home, then you belong there and are a part of it. It does not matter in which region of this earth to be born, it is just a place. Your love and passion gives you a home and a connection. If I were Norwegian, may I call myself a Scot? After all, the vikings invaded scotland and left behind people today called robertson, anderson, and so on. Are also scots norwegian if they are called robertson. You are what your heart tells you to be, irish, english, scottish, german and so on. No matter where you were born. My opinion. If you're Anderson, you're not a Scot but a Norwegian or a Dane or a Swede. Nonsense, right? Your are feeling connected to scotland, so you are scottisch. You are what you feel connected to.

I live in Scotland and to stop myself for taking the sheer beauty of this place for granted, I go touring on my bike whenever I can to refresh the soul, sitting in my tent (usually on a beach) phone off, no internet, I usually shed a tear.. Scotland is awesome 😉😉

Love your video Henry. GlenCoe was the estate of the MacDonalds of GlenCoe who were massacred by the Campbells in 1692. Very broody landscape. If those three sisters could talk, what a story they would tell. When you move around the Highlands, you can feel the souls of people who once lived there in passed centuries.

there is a lot spooky about the a82 road you can feel Glencoe and 'hear' the massacre as the sun goes down or on a misty morning, you expect to see drovers driving highland cattle, coming out of the mist.

I even wrote a poem called My High on the Highlands 😲😀 Loved watching your video and pictures are beautiful and capture the atmosphere. I don't think it's essential you have the snow at all, you can still capture a wintery atmosphere without it! Thanks for posting

Hi Henry. Thank you so much for your beautiful photos and film of your fascinating adventure. My Scots genes are jangling to watch them! I wouldn't worry about having snow for the winter months of your calendar. We all know what snow looks like and, if you were taking a photo in, say, February, there would be plenty of other pointers to say that it was, indeed, February even if there was no snow. You obviously have the talent for catching the essence of a place and conveying it well to the viewer. Best of luck to you!

Beautiful video. I spent my youth travelling through that valley to my relatives up north on holidays and even as a wee boy i knew it was something special. It's still my favourite place on earth of all the places I've travelled. We caught a proper thunderstorm one night returning south in the pitch dark. The illumination of the 3 sisters was spellbinding, genuinely something to behold. Will check out the rest of your videos too.

I traveled through Europe when I was young and now live near the Blue Ridge Mountains and it reminds me of Scotland -always brings me to tears! There is just something imprinted upon my soul (ancestral-my ancestors were from Scotland and Ireland) that calls me to these places. The first time I heard bagpipes I had the same reaction. It was almost more than I could bear! I never tire of seeing the highlands and lowlands, the mountains, the atmosphere, the people. These are my people, this is my home away from home! I would love to go back. I would love to live there. I'm sad that I am old and I won't get to do that, but I have memories.

Some fine words that really resonate with how I feel about the place too. Grew up here and I'm fortunate enough to spend a lot of my working time in rural areas and there definitely is a feeling you get that's hard to put your finger on when being anywhere north of Stirling. I'd recommend to anyone in the world to come visit our fine country. The history and the natural beauty are second to none.

Yo Henry, that was magic man. The Highlands always get me aswell man. It's not about you being half Scottish dude why it hits you how it hits you, well maybe slightly. I'm Scottish and from Edinburgh. The Highlands and especially Skye has this intangible energy about it that you don't find anywhere else. You cant fully describe it as words don't really work, you know what it is as you feel it. It's all about the feeling/consciousness of the place, and the fact that the Highlands are 'us', and 'we' are the Highlands. Great work dude...

What a fantastic reaction. That feeling you have, is Scotland rising up through the souls of your boots, and setting your soul on fire, it proves that you are one of Jock Tamson's bairns, that is, you are one of *us* , Good on you for being a proud Englishman to, you can be both, you can be anything .... I am glad you love Scotland, it's your own, your native land. And if you love it, it will love you.
