He is simply documenting facts. But then he uses them in an attempt to legitimize a radical left wing agenda at the same time proposing both sides need to talk it out. Of course we need to talk and that's where he should leave it, not try for example tell you that young men who may have become isolated from the brainwashed are now climate change deniers. 😴

The problem is women hypergamy, not decline of middle class. I haven't seen recent data but 5-10 years ago, middle shrunk by 11%, 7% of them moved up a class and 4% went down a class so statistics can be misleading.
@AgeOfGoldenSilence
@AgeOfGoldenSilence Жыл бұрын
@Scott Fun fact: Men prefer dating “down” . Something to do with hierarchy and being the decider at home. The disappearance of the middle class has to do with inflation and taxation mainly, because wealth is built overwhelmingly with real estate in the US. Stocks second. So you might want to reinterpret that data
@scott1294
@scott1294 Жыл бұрын
@@AgeOfGoldenSilence I think there is some truth to men dating down but that would be for mostly non college males and it doesn’t change the fact that most women are still dating up and the combination of the two is a problem. Also majority of women prefer their male partner to be confident and a leader. This is where their feminist has them with one foot in past and one in present. Lots of preference on both genders need to be adjusted to fit current equality. The decline of the the middle class is a misnomer that politicians push. My stats are correct and facts are more people moved up a class than went down. Doesn’t matter how they did it. Not saying we shouldn’t try to build up numbers of middle class but cannot do it via gov money.

Thanks for this, Stephanie. I was not familiar with Scott Galloway until I saw this brilliant interview. I will be paying attention to him from now on. So many things stood out to me in this thought provoking piece, but the downward spiral of young men really jumped out at me. As a therapist, I've always said that the worst (and cruelest) social crime perpetrated by society on boys (who eventually become men) was convincing them that emotions were the enemy and they should not ever acknowledge them or show them because it made them weak. It's a social norm that's been around for generations and the chickens are now coming home to roost. It was only a matter of time before it began to seriously affect men's functioning because they've been denying and repressing a huge part of themselves. Nobody can function in that state indefinitely. I am saddened but not at all surprised by these findings. The question is, what are we gonna do about it?
@Lerian_V

How come the chickens are only now coming home to roost and not centuries or millennia ago? Why particularly this generation and mostly in the West?

@@Lerian_V I'm not sure if this is a sincere question or an attempt at being defensive; hard to tell on the internet, so I'll just suggest that you really think about your question, break it down into its component parts, and see if you can't answer it yourself.

@@SaddleInTheRain I was trying to understand the comparison between men in the past and today's men.
@SaddleInTheRain
@SaddleInTheRain Жыл бұрын
@@Lerian_V A sincere question then; my apologies. The simplest and shortest answer is that raising boys to be tough and emotionless is a modern/post modern phenomenon. It just wasn't a societal issue prior to the Industrial Revolution. Norms and social mores change over time, and prior to the Industrial Revolution, the occupation of many was farming and the whole family was involved. Families were focusing on their farms and making enough money each season to make it to the next season. The socially proscribed roles and behaviors that we are just beginning to get past simply didn't exist or at least weren't touted by society. As to why this generation and why mostly in the west, I think this generation is recognizing how wrong it is on a fundamental level, but doesn't know what to do with those feelings of anger, confusion, resentment. They're just overwhelmed and don't know how to process it all and we're seeing the psychological fallout from that. It does seem to be a western character trait and I really don't know why (something for me to research). I will say, however, that compared to other developed countries, we lag behind in so many areas (no universal healthcare, no real programs that support families, a substandard educational system, elevated child poverty, the list goes on and on) so it's not really a surprise that we would be dysfunctional in this area too. Also, it's hard to claim that women are overly emotional - and therefore somehow inferior (another long standing, if erroneous, norm) - if you allow men to also show their emotions.

He can appeal to Dems, Republicans, and independents. More importantly: he states exactly what is ailing the country. SOME politician needs to take their cue from this man.

I first heard about Galloway back in 2018 when I read about him for yelling and swearing at a student who entered his class late. I immediately respected him for it and have been a follower since. 😅

Thanks, Stephanie Ruhle and Scott Galloway, for an excellent talk. Regarding Prof. Galloway’s mention of going after the underlying disease, instead of the tumor, this retired old Urologist respectfully disagrees. One of the worst malignancies in young males is the seminoma - testicular cancer is fast-growing, and metastasizes early. Back in the 80s, we began achieving real cures by combining therapies: surgically debulking the original tumor and regional spread (to the greatest extent possible), together with adjuvant chemotherapies, to take out more distant metastases of that cancer. What makes the pervasive spread of malevolently partisan rhetoric by cynically opportunistic politicos so dangerous to our body politic is the sheer volume of hate speech, and of calls for political violence, which hypocritical bigots and their enablers spread, on air, online, and on social-media platforms. Those alt-right-extremist mindsets are the primary tumors of the Trumpism we are currently facing, and they can be debulked, to help heal the patient - But only if we punish the perpetrators just as diligently as we prosecute those other violators of our Constitutional First-Amendment Rights. The latter are the incessantly mendacious defamers, the false advertisers, and the permanent spreaders of intentional falsehoods. Aside from being an unrepentantly inveterate thief and fraud, Trumpie has proved himself such a violator of Free Speech in all those aspects, too many times to count, in these years…

The Biontech Pfizer vaccine was developed in Europe, and production and distribution were scaled up so fast that it was accessible to every adult within about 8 months from approval by the EMA. This rah-rah "all the brightest people want to come here" patriotism is really getting old.

Well I think his statement was correct twenty years ago but it's becoming less true with each passing year. And that general trend is what his book is about.

@@randal_gibbons He stated in the Interview - to which I'm replying - in context with the scientific success of the COVID-19 vaccines that the best and brightest want to come to the US. That is a unreflected talking point of a lot of US American intellectuals, journalists and commentators. I'm pointing out that it might be debatable, as science and logistics successes are not restricted to the US by a long shot. If he makes anything like a comparable argument in the book, so much worse for him, it makes his stances so much harder to take seriously.

@@nina1608 There are plenty of smart people and great companies and institutions all over the world. However, the US is only about 4% of the world population. Yet it is probably a fact that the US produces far far more than 4% of almost everything ... new research, dominant companies, charitable giving, world leaders, etc. So his overall points and broad trends are probably generally correct. Can you show us any significant area of any kind whatsoever where the USA does not contribute far more than 4% of whatever that area is?
