The lumix S5ii is a brilliant all round hybrid camera aimed more towards video shooters but is it just as good for photography? In this video I take a look at wether you should consider the Lumix S5ii for your photography

What made you chose the S5 II over the Fujifilm, if I may ask? I'm using Nikon DSLR now and will move to mirrorless shortly. I'm on the fence between Fujifilm and Lumix S5 II. Is S5 II too large? Thanks
@philipae27

@@paullafleur6112 Oh there were quite a few reasons.....My camera for the last 2 years was the Fuji X100V which was amazing but too limiting. I was looking at the $2000 mark for the body alone so I was looking at the Lumix S5ii or the Fuji X-H2. They're actually quite close to the same size. If you are looking at the X-T5 that's smaller but every past Fuji i had similar to that needed an extra hand grip because they're too small in that area. Also the S5ii is quite a bit better in low light/high ISO compared to the 40mp Fuji sensor in all testing I've seen. I like to shoot a lot of basketball and often shoot at or above iso 4000-6400. I do miss the Fuji jpeg recipes but the S5ii had the real time LUTs which I need to play with more. I could go on and on haha

@@paullafleur6112 And I don't find the S5ii too large. It's on the smallish size for a full frame camera but not as small as say a Sony A7c for sure. But it's a comfortable grip and great ergonomics and that's what counts for me. I use smaller prime lenses to keep the weight down as well.

@@philipae27 Your reasoning echoes mine. The big plus of Fujifilm for me is the size advantage, the Fujifilm colours and the analogue experience. I see that the size advantage is becoming less and less clear with the recent larger primes and bodies, the colours can be approximated via other means (although I have yet to see how exactly you can upload Fujifilm simulations into Lumix S5 II via real time LUTs. Can it be done? I guess yes), and one can grow into non-analogue shooting experience... Maybe a two body approach makes sense: a small everyday carry like a Fujfilm X-E4 and a Lumix S5 II for all the rest. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Really liked your review. Useful info about still photography for a change, not too techie. Moved right along. Two ideas for future posts about this camera. 1) If you shoot in manual for still photos, how does the Lumix S5II help you expose the picture? Does it have over-exposure warnings like "zebra" in the viewfinder? Any manual focusing aids? 2) If you say the S5II uses Leica "color science," we really need to know what that means. For example, if I compare two photos -- from the S5II and the Leica SL-S -- shot using the same Leica or Panasonic L-mount lens, will I be able to see the difference? Hope you keep going with this channel. Lots of potential. Thanks.

how you feel about the missing of an apsc mode with raw cause i really love to use the crop mode to get more of my primes like turning my 35 1.8 into a 50 1.8 without carrying 2 lenses with me. But this camera doenst have this feature unfortunately

I enjoy everything that I’ve researched about this camera, and I remember not long ago 24mps was awesome for Professional Portrait Photography, Cinematic Music Videos, Wedding Videos etc. just need to decide between it’s full frame sensor, the Awesome Color Science I keep seeing & hearing about in the Fuji XT5, & the Canon R7. I owned a canon 5D4 & used it extensively for Portrait Work & now own the Legendary Nikon D200 with the 50MM prime for the 75mm Focal Length for Portrait work. However, I’m not a big fan of the lack of low light ability in it without having to use the flash. So I’m leaning toward the S52X. Any advice In choosing?

Thank you for making this video. I'm currently thinking about buying the S5IIX, but I'm worried about the durability of the Panasonic cameras because I've never had one. Does anyone have an idea how long they last? I wanna use it for a good 5 years.

Hi Scott new to the channel. Very nice video. I’m thinking about picking this up as my second body, I have a canon R5 as well with the canon I set up the front button as eye auto focus and the back button af on as single point simultaneously so if one isn’t working, the other one can be used as a back up can the Lumix do the same?

I have s5 is a worth it upgrade ? For photography? Because the phasedection ?
@seanbrucemedia5695
@seanbrucemedia5695 Жыл бұрын
Maybe not necessarily worth it just for phase-detect (in photo mode), BUT if your goal is to produce 'finished' looking photos straight out of camera & spend less time with 'color grading' your photos on the computer, as mine is, the Real Time LUT feature and improved EVF resolution , along with the new C-AF phase detect ability may make the upgrade well worth it. I really enjoyed the S5mk1 and some of the features it has that were not ported over to the S5mk2 so I kept the S5mk1 and just added the S5mk2... Love them both!

@@jharrelphoto there's some video comparisons with S1H and AA filter doesn't do that much of a blur tbh.. but in a landscape world I'd prefer lack of AA filter for sure, also I like astro and I'm thinking about getting Pentax K-1 (mark 1, since mark 2 baking some noise reduction in raw files) solely for photo purpuses

Just to clarify, the second native ISO in non-video picture profiles is ISO640, and it's automatic.
@iammz81
@iammz81 Жыл бұрын
You only benefit from V-Log and dual ISO in video mode, you can use it for photography, but why would you shoot in V-Log for photos? It is not recommended at all. Use a flat profile use ISO 100 and you're done. In low lights you can still use higher ISO without using V-Log.
@ScottEdwards

I didn’t say I used v-log for photos. I mentioned the dual iso values for v-log but I wasn’t sure they were for other profiles

@@iammz81 In the standard picture profile, the first native iso is at ISO 100 and the second native iso is at ISO 640. You can see this when measuring dynamic range of all of the ISOs, there is a bump in dynamic range at 640 compared to 400. The dual iso is not only for v-log
